From Atlanta's press release regarding Heath:

"Atlanta United announced today that Harrison Heath has been loaned to Sacramento Republic FC. The midfielder has made two appearances this season.

“This move provides Harrison a good opportunity to get playing time in an effort to aide in his development,” Atlanta United Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra said.

Heath, 21, joined Atlanta United after spending the previous three seasons with Orlando City SC, first joining the club on July 17, 2014 when the Lions were in USL. In Orlando, Heath had six career appearances in MLS with five starts. He made his Major League Soccer debut in 2015. The England native spent his youth career with the Houston Dynamo and Norwich City before signing with Orlando. He is the son of Minnesota United head coach Adrian Heath."

Heath is 21 years-old, 5'11 & 160 lbs. He's only seen one minute with Atlanta this season. Atlanta's bio of him includes:

2016 (Orlando City, MLS): Heath began the year with the first team before being loaned to USL affiliate Orlando City B. Overall, he played in three MLS matches and 12 USL matches, registering one goal for Orlando City B. He spent much of the season training with the first team, but frequently was sent on loan with Orlando’s B team to get playing time. In addition to his three matches in MLS, he started a fourth round U.S. Open Cup game against Jacksonville Armada (June 16).

2015 (Orlando City SC, MLS): Heath made his Major League Soccer debut against D.C. United on May 14 and played the full 90 minutes. He saw time in three league games, two starts, and was included in the squad on 17 occasions. Heath also played in two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup games.

2014 (Orlando City SC, USL): After signing with USL side Orlando City SC, Heath started his first game against Harrisburg City on Aug. 17, playing 61 minutes. He played in one more league game against Dutch Lions FC (Sept. 1) as a substitute and appeared in a playoff game against Harrisburg City (Sept. 14) for his second start with the club.

2012/2013 (Norwich City U23): Heath appeared in three matches in the U21 Premier League Qualifications and scored one goal against Newcastle U23 (April 29).

I don't know what affect the signing of a 16 year-old will have, but here is what I hope to see from the Heath signing.

Heath moves into the starting lineup as a DM. Hall drops back to CB, allowing Klimenta to move back to RB. Hord is a nice player, but I like him better in the attack than I do on defense. Either play him wide in MF or rely on him as nice depth at RB. I know Hall has played more as a FB, but he gives the ball away too easily at times. Maybe he'll take better care of it as a CB. Better than Foran, I hope.

Keep in mind, McGlyn has been in the 18 at least twice recently. With the addition of Heath and McGlyn working back into shape, will the starting 11 have a different look a month from now?

Not to mention Moffat, who's recovering from injury. I can't remember if it is the groin or a sports hernia.

Looks like Barrera is out until almost playoff time.....

    Posted by SRFC this afternoon:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (July 8, 2017) – Sacramento Republic FC midfielder Danny Barrera underwent successful surgery on Friday, July 7 to repair a stress fracture in his left foot......

“Danny did great,” said Eric Giza, orthopedic surgeon at UC Davis Medical Center. “He underwent a successful surgery to fix a left mid-foot stress fracture. We are looking forward to a quick post op recovery, rehabilitation and return to play. Danny could return to the pitch as soon as 12 weeks, and we will assess his condition on an ongoing basis.”

I was surprised he was subbed off last week. I guess this explains why.

Wish him a quick recovery, and

    Bring on DTS!

I can't think of anyone else they have released with absolutely no official media comment from the club. Wonder what happened?
I hope DTS can get back on track and realize his goals.

    Maybe it's just not official.

Too bad. He seems like a player with potential, and he's still very young. It could be he asked for his release due to lack of playing time.

    Assuming the report is accurate.

ICS reports that DTS, Julius James and Enrique Montano have been sent home.

    https://www.indomitablecitysoccer.c...oves-release-trickett-smith-james-add-partain

The players remain under contract. In the article, Buckle says that DTS just wasn't producing goals or goal scoring opportunities. The season in gearing up back in England and now is an opportunity for him to hook up with a club there.

On James, Buckles simply says that a player his age should be on the field and Buckle didn't think he would beat out the other CB's, including Rodriguez. (James has been sitting near me the last several games. He and his family/friends are very nice. He represents the club well.)

A possible addition is UC Davis alum and forward Matt Wiesenfarth, recently of Burlingame Dragons.

If this is a push to get help to make a deep playoff run, im on board. Interesting comments about James, considering Rodriguez has yet to fully return from his injury......he must be close, right?

Montano officially released, not just sent home.

Club signed UC Davis and Jesuit grad Matt Wiesenfarth

"Wiesenfarth, a former UC Davis Aggie, scored 13 goals in just 11 appearances and in just 27 shots; a 48 percent shot conversion rate and an average of 1.18 goals per game. The forward was named honorable mention on the 2017 PDL All-Western Conference Team...

Wiesenfarth has joined the club and will be available for selection in Republic FC’s match versus Portland Timbers 2 on Sunday..."

    Position: Forward
    Height: 5-11
    Weight: 175
    Born: 7/5/1993
    Birthplace: Sacramento, California

48% conversion rate? Wouldn't that be something?

No Klimenta or Caesar this weekend for Colo. Springs - national team duty. They'll both be back next week.

Thank God Christian and Hall didn't earn their suspension for this weekend.

Here's some help in the midfield, Villyan Bijev, whose scored 7 goals in 23 appearances this season. He leads Portland in shots (47), and shots on goal (7).

    http://www.uslsoccer.com/villyan-bijev

I guess T2, a lock for the Wooden Spoon, want to get him more experience in games that mean something?

    From the press release:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Republic FC announced on Friday it had acquired midfielder Villyan Bijev on loan from Portland Timbers 2 for the remainder of the 2017 USL season.

Bijev joins Republic FC after playing the last two seasons with T2. The 24-year-old recorded 15 goals and 10 assists in 52 matches with T2, and led the USL in assists in 2016 as he was named to the 2016 USL All-League First Team. Bijev has led T2 in goals in each of the last two seasons, after joining the club from Bulgarian side Cherno More.

A native of Sofia, Bulgaria, Bijev moved to Fresno as a child, playing for Cal Odyssey in the U.S. Development Academy. The midfielder has appeared internationally for both the U.S. U18 and U20 National Teams, as well as with the Bulgaria U21 National Team.

Republic sign former Atlas FC youth player Luis Espino

"...agreed to a USL contract with midfielder Luis Espino for the remainder of the club’s 2017 season.

Espino joins Republic FC after spending the Clausura 2017 season with Atlas FC’s second division team and their U20s. The midfielder scored a goal in 15 appearances, including nine starts between the two teams. Prior to joining Atlas, Espino played at Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas. In the 2015-16 season Espino scored two goals in 12 appearances, including 10 starts while helping Tuzos UAZ earn promotion to the second division in Mexico.

...and will be available for selection in Republic FC’s match versus LA Galaxy II"

    Position: Midfielder
    Height: 5-4
    Weight: 132
    Born: 1/4/1997
    Birthplace: Coahuila, México

So, he's 20-years-old, small. Hopefully that translate to being quick and creative with a high work rate.

This is no groundbreaking observation, but I want to get it out there. Our roster is, simply put silly. I know several of our guys were brought in for their versatility, making them jacks-of-all-trades and masters-of-none, but this is kind of ridiculous.

Here's my break down of the number of players at each position, as listed on the club's web page. The number in parenthesis is the number of players needed for each position to play a 4-4-2 during a game:

    pos/on field/on roster comments

    GK (1) 2 on roster

D (4) 6 on roster - 1.5 players available to fill each position (not counting Hall who, when he drops back to D, plays CB rather than his more natural RB)

MF (4) 8 on roster - 2 players available to fill each position (2 are injured; 1 may have his DL and won't be on the game day 18 the rest of the way). Effectively, 1.25 players to fill each position. Of those, 2 just joined the club. F's Williams, Gisse and Blackwood drop back to play mid-field, with Blackwood possibly being the only one of the three effective doing so.

F (2) 10(!) on roster - Of those, 1 is only 16 and there are perhaps only 4 (Blackwood, Caesar, Ochoa and Kneeshaw) who you can have a reasonable expectation to positively impact the game. Unfortunately, Ochoa can't go much more than 60 minutes, Caesar's strength is outrunning defender's onto balls over the top and even that is not effective against some opponents. He's better suited for coming in at 75' to provide a strong counter attack and kill off games with hold-up play, when he puts his mind to it. Kneeshaw's strength also is running onto balls but, again, that's less effective against some opponents and although he's fast, he's not that fast. I consider Blackwood our only true 90' forward, but he needs more polish but really, is he one of the better forwards in the league?

Perhaps this is just the collection of the best players available to us, or maybe the roster budget was cut for this season. I just think it's weird.

Of course, that doesn't mean we can't beat LA this weekend.

Real question, not sarcasm - What is the benefit to the club of signing an Academy Player at this point of the season?
They probably won't get any playing time given the "push" to secure a playoff spot, right? So, Is it to "lock them in" from going somewhere else, or reward them by letting them travel with the team? Inquiring minds want to know, lol.
