Damn, they've been slow with a lineups lately. According to Herc on Twitter Dwyer, Acosta, and Dax are starting
Lineup is (finally) out: Guzan, Villafana, Besler, Hedges, Zusi, Acosta, Arriola, McCarty, Corona, Rowe, Dwyer. #USMNT— Ryan Tolmich (@RyanTolmich) July 1, 2017
I like that lineup, I knew Saief wasn't going to start but hope he at least gets a run out. Zusi is meh, but I was expecting it
I have my doubts about Corona in that spot, but overall a sensible lineup. Like the CB and CM pairings and looking forward to seeing what Dwyer can do. Plus no Zardes.
Corona is somewhat interesting, haven't seen him in awhile but I've heard he's been doing pretty well south of the border
And I am kind of psyched to hav us play Ghana again. I'm sure it'll be a long time before we see each other in the world cup again, so having at least a friendly series is fun
Looking forward to Dwyer and Acosta. I don't rate Dax but whatever. Zusi is a slug, embarrassing he's anywhere near the NT. Corona as a 10 is a bit sad. At least Morris and Zardes aren't starting. This is a very weak lineup.
Too bad it wasn't just because we were down to our 8th rb in qualifiers. We're starting to see a couple genuine and unhealthy obsessions emerge. One is Zusi, over rb's who don't suck internationally, or who probably wouldn't, like Lichaj. This is probably because Zusi made a good first impression at rb against the Gals last season that Bruce can't seem to get out of his head. I guess the bright side is Zusi will be matched up against a team with speed and who can create off the dribble. Hopefully it's the last embarrassment to end the experiment. Another is Guzan, who he gave his first cap to all those years ago, but has proven to suck internationally and at the EPL-level, over actual keepers who may not like Hamid and Horvath. I don't like that Roldan isn't out there, but I'm hardly going to push the panic button there already. It's possible he's high on him but just prefers an ease-in, get him his debut off the bench. Could end up playing just as much. Weird lineup. On paper that has trouble connecting to the attack. Looks like Arriola as the only outlet and Corona sending longer hopeful balls to Dwyer 1 on 2. Could well be a frustrating 1st half. We'll see what happens, but on paper we potentially could have done a lot better with a few different roster and lineup selections, each. Nagbe + Feilhaber to help link to the fw(s), Roldan to them, Lichaj over Zusi at rb; things like that.
Corona can be ok as a 10, he won't be a Benny but he isn't a terrible player, he was the star of the u23 team that got eliminated by El Salvador for the Olympics, interesting that El Salvador tried to recruit him for that tournament and he rejected them saying he was American but felt more conectes by his Mexican side...
If Klinsmann handed any of us the USMNT program in the kind of shape he left it, we'd all be putting out weird lineups for this friendly. I was over Acosta before his first call up but I get the rest.
Do not agree. Zusi knows what he is doing and will add some organizing principle to the team. Why all the consternation when everybody knows Yedlin is starting in Russia?
