Manager: Anyone who could produce consistent results against Asian opponents. Struggling against some of those Asian teams is straight up embarrassing. With the exception of 1-2 Asian teams, we shouldn't be struggling against any of those teams.
I'm fine with a domestic interim for the remaining 2 WCQ matches, but not for the 2018 FIFA World Cup (IF we manage to qualify).
I can live with that, but all this "No foreign manager will/would want to manage the KNT" or "It's too difficult to hire a foreign manager" is all pussy talk, especially when they haven't/didn't even search and contact yet. Once and if we qualify for the WC, then it should be open market for the KNT, so no ifs and buts.
If we qualify, then yes. We have a good chance to land a manager with nice resume. However, until then, we will struggle to find the right guy leading the KNT.
Guys, I checked Transfermarkt/available managers, and I saw Paulo Sousa (Portugal). Most recently managed Fiorentina. Some teams he managed: -Portugal U-16 -QPR -Swansea City -Leicester City -Maccabi Tel Aviv -Basel -Fiorentina. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulo_Sousa
He's a twat. He won't come. Media is pointing out that Huh Jung Moo is almost sure (not only as an interim but for the full time!). Also, there seems to be no plans to hire a foreign coach. KFA just wants to save money apparently. I really dont want to go to WC with that moron...
For interim (in no order of preference): 1) Shin Tae Yong I'm less enthusiastic about STY than several months ago. The disappointing results of Rio 2016 and U-20 world cup exposed many of his managerial deficiencies. I don't know much about his abilities pre-2014 interim days, aside from the fact that he won AFC Champions League as an inexperienced manager. I've read other posters in this forum that he f**ked up towards the end of his Seongnam stint. But I can't deny that STY has spent substantial amount of time with the current crop of players than other domestic names. STY seems to be the type of coach that produces impressive results for single-set fixtures rather than tournaments; this is what we need for the remaining 2 WCQ matches. 2) Huh Jung Moo (aka "Friendship Radish") I like what he has achieved with KNT back when he was in charge 2008--2010. I know he's had experience in national set up before that period as well. So he is a man with substantial experience and results with KNT. The problem is I'm not entirely sold on whether he can assemble a winning team for the remaining two fixtures. Football changed a lot since 2010, and he may or may not have studied and kept up with the ever-evolving modern game (enough to bag 3 points against Iran and Uzbekistan with current players). Besides, I really really really, really doubt the radish would risk tarnishing his reputation by taking over a team barely holding onto 2nd place and showed continuous signs of decline. 3) Cho Kwang Rae I doubt he would take a job from an organization that f**ked him over really bad during his previous KNT stint. But it's just the nostalgic (and revisionist) side of me that has a small measure of hope that maybe this tinkering engineer can lead KNT to WC 2018. His football was attractive. 4) Nam Kee Il Really liked his football last season with Gwangju FC. A young manager. Seems to struggle right now with Gwangju having sold off many of its key players. Maybe he'll call it quits and take up KNT job as a final gamble on his coaching career. Honorable Mentions: -Park Kyung Hoon (former Jeju Utd. Coach) -Choi Yong Soo -Kim Ho Gon -Park Sung Hwa.
I can live with HJM/STY taking over for the next 2 games. But during that time I want the KFA to look for a new manager. STY can stay as assistant coach if he wants. Good to have someone who knows the players well.
Fun fact: Lee Yong Soo says there's no time for a foreign coach, but if he had sacked Stielike in December or March we'd have more time.
We don't know how f'cked up the KFA is in terms of corruption. The amount of media praising HJM makes me believe that the KFA already told them to write good stuff 'bout him. LYS should have at least contacted some candidates after China&Syria. He did such a terrible job.
If we do secure qualification (crosses finger), what foreign managers would you like for KFA to approach?
Take it for a grain of salt, there's more than enough time to look for a foreign manager whilst the interim takes care of the remaining WCQ matches.
Someone who knows tactics and has experience. I would like Armin Veh or Juande Ramos. Edit: on domestic level I wouldn't mind Nam Ki Il even tho it'd be risky. I would keep him until 2022.
i don't know why but would cool an italian coach...not top notch of course, someone like Gasperini for example.
