It's hilarious. I keep seeing these articles and people say Arsene will be given $100 million with which to build the squad. They act like that is amazing and things are going to happen!....conveniently forgetting that's basically the exact same sum he's had the last three years.
You're making the same mistake as a lot of people: paying attention to what's said in the press. This story is basically copy/paste at season ticket renewal time. Pay no attention to it.
True but the problem is nothing new is said so that's the only thing to pay attention to. I mean that's the main problem with all of this!! Nothing new is done or tried. The club keeps making the same mistakes over and over and over and over. It's either direct arrogance as some have said, obtuseness as others have said, or blind loyalty or who knows what. All that is certain is this club definitely isn't challenging for the title next year and I'm not sure, depending on who leaves and arrives, if it'll even challenge for 5th. Needs a serious overhaul.
It doesn't matter what the press release says but it's clear that Wenger won't spend big money on established players.
No we can't, especially when Kante was available for basically the same amount or even less according to some reports. It's not about spending big for me, I just have zero faith in Wenger and the staff to ably work the transfer market...even in a good year I wouldn't have much faith in them. Now, after this year, with all these contract issues and no CL to entice other players, absolute zero faith they will be able to work it well.
It is time for our scouting department to step up, and Wenger to spend every waking moment watching tapes of players. Between the relative size of our budget and no CL, we will be wasting our time chasing after players who are widely known. It's time to start taking chances on upcoming talents. The only known entity I'd go after this summer is Pickford. He is a decent keeper, and homegrown.
rumors this morning... Atletico have lost their appeal and are trying to convince their summer targets to sit out until Jan like Arda Turan did for Barca. Not sure how that works in this situation as I believe Turan was a FA. Also, highly doubt Lacazette would opt to skip the 1st half of the season just to play for Atletico. Ozil & Alexis are willing to sign extensions but want to 1st have some assurances regarding AW's transfer plans.
There are no hidden talents anymore. Scouting is too good. IMO, the best transfer optimization is to successfully improve the talent you have, and to structure the team so that it's more than the sum of its parts. (This is what Spurs have done ).
Starting with $45 million on a goalkeeper with one season of starting and zero international appearances under his belt. https://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2017/06/01/ederson-manchester-city-transfer-benfica
Highly skeptical. http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2017/06/01/report-arsenal-lodges-129-million-bid-for-mbappe/
Bilel Ghazi is an established journalist, not just a some blogger. So there may well be something to it. It's the sort of bold move Arsenal needs to make and Wenger's admiration for the player is no secret.
I don't care who the report comes from - the idea of Arsenal spending that kind of money on a whole summer's worth of players is pretty outlandish, much less spending that all on one player.
It's the kind of thing that Arsenal have never done before, and that alone makes it hard to credit, but L'Equipe aren't exactly tribalfootball either (reddit suggests that they're reliable). It's theoretically possible that Arsenal made such a bid, I guess (doing the math, we're talking 87 million quid here), but can't see Arsenal pulling off such a deal. Also, with all the transfer fees they're collecting, are AS Monaco planning on buying the principality outright?
I could see Wenger pushing for such a bid to be made (rumor has it that Wenger pushed really hard to try to sign Griezmann last summer but the board wouldn't greenlight it). Making the bid and actually pulling off the transfer are two different things, and can't see the club actually executing what's going to be a really complex deal.
This Mbappe rumor stinks of a pr bid to raise the mood of Arsenal supporters. Well, that and to add to Wenger's world famous almost signed team.
