That area of CDMX is safe. There's a bunch of Security camera's up and down Paseo de Reforma to prevent crime in that area. It's safe to walk around and there's a nice mall called Reforma 222 close to your location.
@anubis53 how would one go about having a driver stationed near the other buses inside the parking lot? we are marched out of the stadium to a dead end, with only chartered buses waiting. If we had a driver, would he be able to get in there and wait?
The buses are parked in their own area so your driver won't be able to go in there and wait. Azteca has a limited amount of Parking on site so your best bet is to have your driver park in the stadium grounds and eat the cost of him waiting or even buy him a ticket so you can leave together. I've had my driver drop me off and pick me up in front of the stadium and this last time I went I bought him a ticket so I wouldn't have to deal with the headache.
We'll be in DF for 5 days and then heading to Puebla for one day. Is there an issue with taking the subway back from Azteca after the game? Any suggestions on places I must eat in Mexico City? Good bars? Any things to see or do that might not be obvious to an outsider? Is UNAM/Coyocan worth visiting? Can I find a place to try pulque downtown (we're staying in Condesa)? Any recommendations for places to eat in Puebla if you're familiar with the city?
you'll get good responses here, but my quick take is that the Azteca train station was a shit show after the game, as you can imagine. And it takes you a few stops just to get the actual Metro line, which is another shit show. You'll have to jump out of the riot police march and will get some schtick from El Tri fans (and rightfully so). Be cool and there isn't a major safety issue, but definitely have thick skin.
I would not and have not gotten on the Subway in any of my visits. I would also avoid any bus for safety reasons. My personal driver says they're so packed that it makes crime that much more easier. Everything is good food wise in CDMX too many to name. Must try for sure is La Polar for Birria. There's tons of good bars in Condesa. The Pyramids are really cool to check out. Coyocan is similar to Condesa so you're good to stay in Condesa. Pulquería La Nuclear and pulqueria de los insurgentes are good to check out.
Although the subway should be avoided at peak hours (and definitely for any game going to Azteca) at other times it's good to use when it's not full.
I'm starting to worry that there will never be a USSF ticket sale which would, I think, be a first for an away match. Those of you with better links to the Fed have any update on what is going on? I've got my plane ticket in from London, my hotels booked and vacation fully planned. Just need match tix. Also, for those of you from the area does the following itinerary sound doable or too ambitious? Arrive June 10 midafternoon, stay in Historico Centro till the morning of the 14th including going to the match. Then renting a car and going on a roadtrip, the 14th is Teotihuacan and Tula, staying the night in Tula. 15th is drive to and stay night in Puebla, see sights in and around. 16th is drive to Tepoztlan through Cholula, staying night in Tepoztlan. 17th is see sights around Tepoztlan drive to airport fly out at 2200.
Plan for the worst and go buy one yourself from ticketmaster.mx Look for the will call option (the only one available for international orders) and buy your tix in the "Cabecera Sur" section. https://m.ticketmaster.com.mx/event/1400529DDC8A24F2?
After reviewing my ticket order, I've noticed that my tickets are in ESAO27, Row 9 seats 20-19, and not in Cabecera Sur section. Should I be concerned that I won't be able to sit in the visitors area, or will they just rope me in with all the other USA fans?
I'm also having some anxiety about this re: USSC delay in ticket announcement. However,...I spoke to my contact yesterday and they assured me they will be available soon.
As a member of U.S. Soccer, you have the opportunity to purchase tickets for the U.S. Men's National Team's 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Mexico in Mexico City. The match will take place on Sunday, June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico at 8:30 p.m. ET. Preferred Sale Presale begins Tuesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. CT and ends Wednesday, May 24 at 8 a.m. CT. All tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis as ticket quantities are limited. Ticket orders are subject to a limit of four (4) tickets per member. Please note: Tickets will be mailed to the purchaser.
FINALLY the email from US Soccer on the Mexico match. After most of us gave up and got tickets though other channels.
Priority Sale at 10 AM CT (Gold, Silver members?); Preferred Sale at 11 AM CT (Red, Blue?). I clicked through the link on the email to the Ticketmaster Account Manager page. Not live and no price yet. My guess is $35. Maybe $40 to cover the postage. I would have rather gone this route than Ticketmaster MX, but the USSF sale was too slow in coming. Good luck, all. I hope everybody gets tickets. See you at Azteca.
seems like it. i got the priority at 10 am, lets see how long they last considering most people bought tickets already!!
I have an extra 4 tickets in section PRESD2, Fila 2 that I trying to sell for Face Value. My group bought a few extra's and some people cancelled so we're just trying to make our money back.
guys, dont worry the US Soccer Supporters Club is still offering $80 tickets to the official pre-match tailgate
I just got 2 as well but I (probably stupidly) selected 'on account' as the delivery method thinking I could print the tickets out. Of course there are 'no actions' you can take when you go into Manage Tickets. I'm guessing they will send them to me anyway but who knows. I'm seriously considering the official pre-tailgate - place looks very nice and price includes food and drink so not too bad, plus can get there nice and early via the metro and avoid the crowds and sitting on a bus for an hour+ while waiting for Azteca security. Can still enter the stadium en masse when other buses get there I'm guessing. Leo, good to see you on here mate, what do ya think?
