Yup. A year ago others were being selected ahead of him.

He seems to have made strides within the pool over the last couple of camps...............................

Keeper Carlos Avilez is currently with the FCD first team for their Argentina trip.

He's a well-thought-of youngster that's represented both the US and Mexico at the youth level.

We don't seem to be in any sort of hurry to sign a 3rd keeper right now. I wonder if Avilez is being considered.......................

I believe he's 18, and I don't think he signed with any NCAA commitment for next season.

When MLS announced the 2 additional HG spots would be available. FCD signed Reggie Cannon for one of those spots, but has not yet signed a second. So I could see another HG added.

"last year's roster rules allowed for one player to be loaned down to a team's USL affiliate and effectively be removed from the MLS roster and budget as long as the loan is for the full season and the player is not recalled"
    Once a Metro

So FCD can sign 31 players for the upcoming season.

I've heard rumors of these type of results for years. I would be interested in watching and seeing how the boys won. It may just be long ball stuff over the top with a speedy player the women can't catch. I wonder how the teams compare in midfield and whether the women hold possession or whether they struggle there too.

For reference, in track and field, an Olympic winning time on the womens side is about the same as a good high school varsity time on the mens side. This (approximately) holds true all the way up and down the distances.

As Pete says, this should not be a surprise, and it should be no big deal.

Emphasis added. Male puberty's a hell of a PED, and results like this just are what they are and mean absolutely nothing to one's enjoyment of the women's game.

And to anybody out there thinking otherwise, remember that you support a team in a salary-controlled league that's second best in Concacaf, MAYBE fifth best in the western hemisphere, and would be pretty pleased to be considered top 15 or 20 globally. Enjoying competitions with de facto or de jure roster limitations (e.g. NCAA American football) is actually a pretty great thing in sport.

FCD academies beat down the opposition at the Dallas Cup and GenAd Cup yesterday.

In particular, the U18s throttled Everton 5-0. Here are the highlights.

Is our draft pick Reid, the Canadian, participating on one of the FCD teams?

This is an interesting question, and I haven't seen him.

If I remember correctly he's unable to sign his contract with MLS until his 18th birthday (for the same reason that Weston McKennie had to wait until he was 18 to move to Europe). I was hoping he could play for the U18s/U19s, but I guess not.

probably in a sort of limbo where he can only train and play in friendlies. I saw him scrimmage SMU in pre season FWIW. He's raw but so is Chala and he made the bench so maybe they're not as raw as I thought or they're being trained up quickly.

Coach John Hackworth has named the USA's 20-player roster for the 2017 Concacaf U-17 Championship April 21-May 7 in Panama that will determine the region's four qualifiers for the 2017 U-17 World Cup in India Oct. 6-28.

The U.S. squad includes four players who signed MLS Homegrown player contracts in 2016: midfielders Chris Durkin (D.C. United) and Chris Goslin (Atlanta United FC), and forwards Andrew Carleton (Atlanta United F.C.) and Bryan Reynolds (FC Dallas).

One thing I've noticed is at early ages there's usually not many FCD players but they do seem to get coached up and start showing up more in the later ages.

The U-18s are comprised of players born in 1999 or later.

    • FC Dallas and Tijuana Xolos have the largest representation of players on the roster with three each: Shaft Brewer, Brandon Servania and Paxton Pomykal (FC Dallas); and Jonathan Esparza, Brian Perez and Angel Uribe (Club Tijuana).

Also.........................recruiting. Guys like Pomykol, Cannon, Terwege, Brewer, etc. were recruited from other clubs like Solar and the Texans. Brewer is from California, of course.
Players like Kellyn Acosta also didn't spring form the earth at FCD. He came from ASG Gold, which I think was rolled into Andromeda...........(could be wrong about that).

Success breeds that recruiting. Its no accident.

He'd probably actually be with Reynolds at the U17 CONCACAF Championships squad. Its amazing how young Ferreira is. He was great against kids significantly older than him at the Dallas Cup.

Bryan Reynolds was a terror and scored a goal in the concacaf semis today.

He cut in from the right wing a lot and knifed into the box on multiple occasions. The young man has some serious wheels with the ball at his feet.
