To play for NT, he needs to keep his Korean citizenship. Korea doesnt allow dual citizenship after age of 18. So, if he decides to play for Korea, he does need to go to army.
pretty sure most koreans are aware of basic citizenship and conscription laws bro. just curious as to if there are workarounds for him like 제외국민2세/foreign residency laws (legally reside abroad w/o fulfilling service till 38) or if mixed ethnicity exemptions are still a thing (a la kang soo il). not sure he would want to jeopardise a euro career just to play for knt, unless he strongly identifies as korean.
No. And no, you don't need to be mixed. You just need to file the exemption request in time if you are living overseas and have permanent residency or another citizenship. He can also receive a special citizenship (like the ones we're crazily giving away to Canadian hockey scrubs or Russian cross country skiers/tbi-athletes), which may or may not mean he can become a dual citizen and bypass the "no dual citizenship between 18-65 years old" rule.
germany allows dual citizenship under certain circumstances and he fits into the category. korea allows dual citizenship to the point he is considered a minor (under korean law). he has to choose between the two on january 1st of the year he turns 19. i dont know what germany does to its citizens who renounce their citizenship but id imagine it would take away their residency as well. if he chooses korea, does not have residency status in a country outside of korea, and plans either on working in korea or spending significant amount of time of the year in korea, hed have to serve in the army. basically as long as he wants to live in germany hed be dumb to pick korean citizenship btw there was never an exemption rule based on race. it used to be if you didnt 'look korean' youd get off with some bullshit reasons but that thing is probably gone. if this was still in practice youd have 1 out of every 30-40 kids receiving a get out of jail card from the army today and at an even higher frequency in the future. what there was/is all naturalized citizens getting exempted but this isnt the case of for this kevin fella
I don't think most of the players would mind serving in the army, just let them defer to their mid 30's, once their career is over. This should apply to football/baseball. As long as this rule sticks KFT will always be gimped.
oh man that's sad to hear. you know what position he usually plays in? I saw that he plays at left back in transfermarket but midfield in others
Hard to say given that he almost never plays. I did hear about his transition into a LB or something like that, but I don't think it means much when you aren't playing. His saving grace might be that Barcelona might reintroduce their C team pending the promotion of their B team into Segunda Division.

our u20 had a scrimmage against what i guess is a college team. There were lots of missed chances and balls hitting the post. Also who is the guy at :57. he is not only tall but pretty built. Also another note we have a few players that are 6'4 http://www.kfa.or.kr/eng/national/teamlist.asp?gubun=13003
Apparently Amadou Diawara, a 19-year old midfielder from Guinea, has gained some attention in Serie A. Would be interested to see if the Guinea U-20 team would try to call him up. @Marco91 Any info/opinion on this guy? Apparently the Italian FA is interested in naturalising him.
yes, the FIGC want to naturalise him... as for the player... plays as CDM. He's physically strong and have very good defensive skills...but not so much at ease with the ball, and when under pressure can easily misplace passes (even the easier ones) He started many games this season as a starter, since Jorginho was in a poor form...even important matches such as vs Benfica and Real Madrid.
