Peter Segrt has been removed as coach of Afghanistan following a dispute between him and the AFF over player selection, in particular Islam Amiri who along with 7 other national team members retired from international football 2 years ago following a row with then coach Slaven Skeledzic.

AFF were adamant to invite Indian Premier league player Amiri back to the international team but Segrt was displeased.

This is a wrong move. Team selection is the duty of head coach not football association.

The OFA today appointed Dutch Coach Peter Tim Van Verbeek, known as Pim Verbeek to many, as the coach for the Oman National Football Team.

\Verbeek has been a coach for many years – starting his career in 1991, managing a wealth of Dutch Clubs, with illustrious clubs from the Netherlands such as Feynoord also a part of his list.

He has also a very strong experience with Asian Football – having worked with the UAE, being Technical Director in Morocco and also managing South Korea and Australia – two very big Asian Powerhouses - over the span his career.

Mesfer to lead Jordan National team
    [IMG]

Amman: UAE’s Abdulla Al Mesfer has been appointed head coach of the Jordan national team.

Al Mesfer, who has experience leading the UAE national team previously, is set to help the Jordanians in their campaign to qualify for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019.

Jordan will begin their third qualifying round campaign on March 28, 2017.

Mesfer said: “I have been following Jordan football since the national team was under Egyptian Mahmoud Al Johari.

"I will do everything for the team, and I hope I get the support from the clubs and media.”

The Emirati coach believes the ongoing Jordan Premier League will give him a head start.

“I understand the responsibility I have, and having league matches will help me in my work before the start of Asian Cup Qualifiers, which is he said.”

Australian Darren Stewart has been appointed the permanent Head Coach of the Maldives national team. Stewart was previously appointed for the two AFC Asian Cup 2019 playoff matches against Laos, where he successfully guided the team to the 3rd round of qualifiers. He had previously stated his interest in extending his contract so that he could stay for the entirety of the qualifiers, as well as leading the team out to the next SAFF Cup.

This is an emotional decision by the UAE Coach and / or UAE Football Federation... I believe that this decision should be reversed since UAE still have a chance (based on below scenario that may happen) while this is the Best Coach who is well versed with the playing mentality and styles of each player in the national team and can easily make amends...

UAE still have a chance as If the match between AUS x KSA ends in a victory for KSA (though this is only 5% likely to happen out of 100% but it still can happen) and then AUS loses the game against Japan in Japan... So, if UAE wins the next 2 matches while AUS loses both next matches then UAE will be on 15 points while Australia will be at 13 with last round of matches to go... So, technically, UAE still can grab the 3rd spot.

With a draw between Saudi Arabia and Australia and the other results as you state then Australia will only be 14 points and still behind UAE, so the chances for UAE are higher than you state here. It's still tough for them, but too early to give up. It will be tough for us to get to the top two but we still haven't given up. That poor performance in Thailand could be very costly in the end.

It seems that it can be one of the major factor Australia not be able to clinch any of the 2 automatic qualifying spot.

Looking at Mehdi's wikipedia page... apparently he went to HCT Dubai, lol... my dad taught there... anyhoo, pretty sad to see him go... looking at how they do things in Qatar, it was very refreshing to see UAE do the polar opposite, which is not to go the "nationalization" route, and even go as far as hire a local coach, which is pretty unprecedented by Gulf-standards. And kind of sad to see that experiment end. All in all though, I guess it's kind of understandable as maybe he thought he'd taken the team as far as he could go... with UAE hosting the next Asian Cup, they probably will go for someone big I'd assume as they'll want to put a good showing.
