I believe that weekend was RSL's last win, as well. Of course they dropped their coach, and we did not. So at least Curtin can say he is the Coach with the longest winless streak in MLS!

It's important that people be able to self-select into the version of the Union that they want.

We're like the cooler, smarter, more cynical version.

See, now you've gone and saddened all 13 members of the Rowdies fanbase.

We all know that reddit has a section dedicated to discussion of the Union. I'm cool with talking about the mentality of those redditors. Let's please leave specific content from reddit off BigSoccer.

Are we still allowed to pull content and post from other fanfic posted around the internet? ;)

The funny thing is, Reddit's entire platform is based on pulling content from other places.
Not that I care, I don't want to be reading sunshine and rainbows... I want misery and despair from my Union talk damn it!

You've come to the right place then.

What would Curtin have to do to get sacked?

To be fair I'd be pissed if we fired a coach after three games.

Something complety crazy, like depriving his players of water on a forced run.

I have to think that if the Union are winless after the April Home Stand, his seat would have to be burning white hot. That kind of start would make getting into the playoffs extremely unlikely. I realize DCU & Seattle had miracle turn arounds after dismal starts last season, but that's going to be really tough to pull off again. Especially for frugal teams like the Union. To Quote Curtin: "Zlatan is not walking through that door."

I don't care if they fire him or don't fire him since Earnie has been more of a snakeoil salesman than the genius he was billed as. No manager will succeed when given a League 2 striker, some of the GM's Dutch friends, and a permanently injured winger who has no idea what to do with the ball when in the final third.

Idk about snake oil... that was Nick Sak... I'm fine with Earnie, but I agree they probably oversold his "genius" .. the better mentality he brought in goes a long way for me.

I have to agree. It would make the off-season seem like a waste, keeping a guy you were just going to dump. But, then again, it seems like something the Union would do.

I don't know if it's legal per se, but definitely frowned upon by the supermods here.

Point is that this platform is used for discussions here. Content from other sites can be pulled in and used to add to the discussion itself, but there's like this fine line of what is/isn't approved. If links are posted without any summary, (un)intentionally taking traffic away from BigSoccer, then that's not ideal.

I'm fine with talking (generally) about how reddit is full of sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns when it comes to their perspective of the team (like I said, I'm guilty of this as well), but I don't think we can directly quote statements made there without allowing for the author to defend him/herself.

    Modding is hard.

Watching us slowly collapse last year because he refused to get a second striker (Charlie Davies doesn't count) was brutal.

Because he refused to get a decent second striker. Because he refused to adjust his tactics. Because he insisted on predictable like for like substitutions. Because he played players in non-ideal positions.

Gonna edit this to be a bit more fair: While I think he did, and continues to do, a real shit job of coaching teh soccerz consistently, I will give him a ton of credit for building a positive atmosphere at the club overall and a highly decent locker room. We've got some pieces and can improve, but he inherited a dumpsterfire of a franchise. And while we're not a great team (or a particularly good one on a consistent basis) he has had very good periods of over achievement and has helped make the Union somewhat respectable compared to the Sak years.

I've seen versions of this claim get repeated and don't really understand it. The Union's record under Curtin is worse than it was under Hackworth. Jim has been given significantly more resources and time to build. Maybe I'm underselling the benefits of a positive atmosphere, but if this change doesn't result in improved performance, how valuable is it really?

The funny thing is Hackworth got the same benefit of the doubt by being compared to Nowak. Remember the group hug?

And we traded what will probably be a top 5 pick for him.

I get the impression Earnie doesn't value draft picks all that highly.
