What? I thought he was gone for sure. If he's staying I hope it's b cause he wants to, not because another prospect (like St Louis) didn't work out.

Mike Defonte posted a twitter pic with Sammy Ochoa in it from Mexico training camp. Has he been announced as a signing? If so this could be a very deep and experienced roster.

Nothing announced. He still appears on the roster on the Roughnecks website. I would think it's up-to-date but perhaps not. It doesn't have Tulsa's signings from yesterday, Donovan Ricketts and Kosuke Kimura

Photo from Mexico training. There are 20 players posted on the SRFC roster. If you look closely, because a few guys are mostly obscured, there are 21 shown. If this is a player only huddle, I think that the guy in the center back is Kiffe. Perhaps one of you recognize him as someone else?

Yup, that's Kiffe! Nice find. Hopefully he's signed and they announce it soon. And again, hopefully he WANTS to be here, most importantly.

Still razor-thin at CB, though. There's no indication where Chris Christian is. I don't think there is a 3rd, true CB on the roster. Until there's another signing, I guess FB's and either McGlynn or maybe Hall would have to cover in a pinch.

I don't think CC will be back, he hasn't been in any recent team photos

Trialists who played against Sacramento Gold last night:

Defender Julius James, Trinidadian, 32, 6'0. Has made 95 MLS appearances with Toronto, Houston, D.C. and Columbus. Last played MLS in 2012. Also played in 54 NASL matches with Carolina, San Antonio and Ft. Lauderdale. Has made at least 16 appearances with T&T national team. That's through 11/2012 (T&TMNT).

Forward Sammy Ochoa, American, 30, 6'0. Played professionally in Mexico from 2006-10. Appeared in 17 games with Seattle from 2011-13. Scored six goals in 25 appearances with Wilmington and 20 goals the past two seasons with Tulsa.

edit: Clarified that it is the T&T appearances was through 11/2012.

Sammy Ochoa's signing has been announced:

    http://www.sacrepublicfc.com/news_article/show/761653

Here's the latest roster, with the following updates:
    Added Kiffe & Ochoa
    Removed Rivas, Alvarez & Christian
    Added James as a trialist

Beeman reported that Alvarez is on trial with SF Deltas. With that news plus the team holding the option I think is good enough to move him to outgoing.

Not bad shaping up, I'm excited for the Quakes game tomorrow! Don't care about the result but I hope both of my teams put on a good show. I bet we'll see a lot of TT.

We'll have to see what Suma, Montano and McGlynn bring to the table. I'm a little surprised we resigned Cazarez. Otherwise, this may be the best start-of-season roster we've had. I'm hopeful anyway. We'll also have to see how Rodriguez and James (assuming he signs) hold up. Otherwise, this is looking pretty good.

Of course, I think a lot of teams are making quality signings. I can imagine the level of play league-wide going up this year.

Nope unfortunately, I have family things this weekend. I have a hard time being at Quakes vs Republic games because I like both teams, and that doesn't seem to be the sentiment from fans on both sides anymore lol

Alex Davey was the other CB alongside Julius James Saturday night. It looks like it's the same Alex Davey who has bounced around Leagues One, Two and Norway's top league the last three seasons.

Buckle's post game comments Saturday addressed the CB situation:

On Chelsea FC player Alex Davey, who was with the team on Saturday.

Well I hope we hide his return ticket, to be honest. I know his parents very well, actually. And
Mex is somebody that I’ve followed for a few years. It’s very difficult to make the grade at a place
like Chelsea, he’s been there 12 years and been out on loan in the English Leagues. And he’s
available. So I gave him the invite to come out and play some football and train in a different
environment — to help him, basically — knowing that if he enjoyed it there might be a chance.

The fact that we’ve lost some of our center backs — it’s been a tough couple days losing Carlos
with a broken ankle, Chris Christian still trying out in Portugal so we’re still waiting. We chose to
leave Mike out tonight for reasons I can’t really share tonight — positive reasons. It’s a problem
for us because last year our stability at the back was superb. I was please with Julius James. I
thought Hall did well when he went to the back And Alex Davey — I think tonight showed what
a class act he was. I thought his range of passing and his decision making was fantastic and just
    what we need in Sacramento.

On if he expects to bring in a couple more center backs.

Yes. Absolutely. We have to. It’s such an important position. And to sort of lose three — not three
yet — this far in to the preseason is tough. But I was pleased with what I saw here. At the
moment, we probably only have one in Julius. Alex is not over the line, we have to speak to Alex.
It’s a huge change for a guy that spent his entire career at a Premier League club. It’s something
now where there’s not much time for me to rest. I’ve really got to kick on with the recruitment,
which I thought was over to an extent. But that’s the job.

Huiqui is a 34 year old CB and has spent his career in Liga MX and Ascenso MX.

330+ games under his belt, including some spot duty with the Mexican National Team during his prime.

Huiqui sounds like he could put in a good shift... problem is at his age, an injury can come any minute and we'd be stuck needing a CB again.
