Why would "La Liga" have to approve, is not like Spanish teams will play ;)

I am down if it includes Ascenso MX and NASL/USL.

FMF and USSF are both loving this---the original spanish release says that the only thing that remains is to find the business model that both MLS and Liga MX will agree to. So at least in theory neither party has any objections to a competition. It's all about how to make maximum $ for both.

I would not object to saying the tourney represented a comeback for the SuperLiga. Some ideas are too good to remain buried forever. Plus the trophy was beautiful.

Top 5 MLS vs top 5 Liga MX? --yes please!

Some amazing games happened in Super Liga, so whatever it is they replace it with, hopefully they are as wide open and wild ass.

SuperLiga (at least in the beginning--it lost a little steam later) was always heated. Not only were the games incredible, but we could always count on at least one fight or crazy incident happening per tournament.

I know the last fist fight I was in was during a SuperLiga game. That was at the semifinals in 2007 during the Dynamo-Pachuca game that went to PKs. Good times!

Of course I can almost hear the fans that will claim too much fixture congestion--MLS, USOC, CCL, MLS PLayoffs.
I believe we can squeeze in this tourney without too much of a problem. EPL has League Cup, FA Cup, EPL league play, and UEFA Champions League or Europa Cup. They seem to manage fine--so will we.

I hated going to some of those games, but I liked the competition.

Gotta fill that vacuum created by the reformatted CCL. The yin and the yang.

It needs to happen. MLS is finally closing the gap on Liga MX, even if Liga MX is still the better league. It will benefit both leagues to grow side by side.

I'd love to see an ACC-B1G 10 Challenge type competition. The summer is almost a dead period for sports. It would dominate the week.

Did any MLS team hit 50 games in a season back when some of them had to do CONCACAF and SuperLiga in the same year?

I think some of the teams may have come close if they also qualified for and played through the MLS Playoffs.
It would be an interesting stat to look up.

I think an interesting format would be to pair up each MLS team with one Liga MX team and have each play a home and home. Tally up the winners and declare one of the leagues the champion. 36 games total, plenty of tv, but no major commitment for any one club and few scheduling challenges.

This is stupid ... don't we already have a competition for the very best in MLS and Mexico?

I honestly hate this. They're not getting one dime from me. Just a cheap cash grab that undermines the legitimate continental competition.

Why can't this be like the Europa league or like the Copa Sudamericana? A 2nd major regional competition. I dont see it as delegitimizing the CCL.

I'm down for Superliga 2.0. And yeah, it's a global market, so I don't see the problem with inviting clubs from around the world.

    Top 5 LigaMX
    Top 5 MLS
    2 guest teams*
(Guest teams will play their 'home' games at a North American venue or venues of their own choosing.)

So hell yeah are you down for Galaxy vs Chivas AGAIN? Or how about Seattle vs America? Toronto vs Cruz Azul? And when you add a guest team, they can be anybody. I prefer a scrappy J-League or A-League team coming over, but I expect the fans get what they want: some big name Euro clubs that are actually going to do really well until they run headfirst into our MLS/LigaMX refs.

Instead of Euro teams I would prefer legendary south american teams, although you are right most fans owuld probably prefer euro teams.

The difference is that Europa League is an addendum to what is already a successful and saturated Champions League.

CONCACAF CL is still in its infancy with its potential not fully realized. It's inevitable that an alternate competition that runs parallel will act as a competitor. It also dilutes the significance of an MLS-Liga MX matchup if they happen all the time.

Another problem that I have with this is that I suspect that all the games will be in the US. Thus emphasizing that this is all about the cash grab. A proper two legged tie requires both teams to enjoy their home field advantage. Otherwise it's a glorified exhibition.

I have other criticisms too, but that's enough debbie downering for now ...

I'd prefer trying to get into Copa Libertadores instead, but that's just me.

We already play Liga MX clubs regularly.
