Some good goalkeeping and decent defending made made the match winner from Klaassen stand up and then Younes sealed the deal with a goal at the death. It was the usual Ajax match with a very dysfunctional midfield and an uncharacteristic poor match from Schöne.

    Player Ratings:

Onana (7) - Had to make one very good save and needed to be alert as some long balls were coming into the box.
Sinkgraven (6.5) - some nice interventions on defense and a couple of good passes when he went into the offensive end
Viergever (5.5) - not as solid as in previous games; missed marking his man and a lazy back pass to Onana caused some danger
Sanchez (6.5) - decent enough save a couple of sloppy passes
Veltman (7) - defended well and had a nice pass to an open Younes for the second goal
Schöne (4) - poorest player on the pitch and should have been subbed off
el Capitan (6.5) - right place at the right time and a clinical finish for the match winner; had some good defensive plays in the 2nd half and was absolutely awful in the first 45
Ziyech (7) - good passing and three decent shots on goal that required a good save by the Roda keeper
Younes (7) - good match as he looked to pass rather than dribble into double teams; one nice goal and another that clanged off the cross bar
Dolberg (5) - not a factor at all today
Kluivert (5.5) - just a shade above average with a few too many turnovers
Nouri (6) - best on the ball of all Ajax players and a bit unlucky to have not finished a decent chance
van de Beek (6) - good coming on for Ziyech and almost had a nice assist

Feyenoord just kicked off against Twente. PSV put four past our former loanee Krul yesterday. Home to Sparta Rotterdam next week and Ajax still have to win out the rest of the way.

Ajax U19 went through 8th finals after beating Juventus 2-0. Eiting with a golazo and of course Sierhuis who else with the other goal.
They are doing really good it seems.

^^I watched most of the second half and they really play good pressing football. Ajax created numerous turnovers and kept Moises Kean, who already has had some first team football with Juve, under control. He had one shot that was well handled by van Bladeren. Remember that de Ligt, Kluivert, Frenkie de Jong didn't play on the team today!

Wowww I didn't know that. They are automatically starters all of three in that team for sure. Specially De Light. They are doing pretty good. Let's see if we have a 2 or 3 world class players from that group. Eiting seems to be really good same as De Light. I don't know about Kluivert. He seems good but let's see I don't believe in child's of... look at Blind lol. I am also starting to think that Van de Beek have more potential than Nouri. At least more chance to make it I believe. Let's see.
    Thanks for the summary.

Thanks for the tip. Will do since it's more fun to watch these kids than the actual Ajax squad. At least it gives hope. We need to finally figure it out why the under Ajax teams always play better than actual Ajax. Coaching? Pressure? Talent? I don't know but this has been going for a While already.

Combination of talent and coaching. I try to watch as many Jong Ajax games as I can. You really see how a midfield is supposed to work. Now I know I rag on Klaassen a lot but he is the weak link on the senior team. Nobody passes to him unless he is absolutely the last option as they all know he has a terrible touch. His only value to the team is scoring goals which he does. IMO the rest of his skills are inferior and he drags the team down. Marcel Keizer has Jong Ajax really playing an up tempo pressing game with very little back passing.

I really liked Mitchell Bakker. This guy is abnormally good for a Dutch defender. A player to follow, it would not surprise me to see him soon as a first team. Overall I liked the aggressiveness of the team as well as the tactical culture that the players displayed.

Sierhuis plays with such confidence and energy. I will be seriously disappointed if he doesn't make it to at least full Ajax. He strong, decent pace and ability. He is kinda like Janssen but with better skills and better eye for the goal.
And Eiting oh boy we seem to have a very decent CM there. Such elegance and class on the ball, good touch good distribution and more important he can actually recover a ball.
    Let's see.

Was always a big fan of Eiting. He's quite the maestro from midfield. A good football brain and physical attributes to make use of it. In a few years I can only imagine a midfield of:

    Eiting
    van de Beek - Nouri

With Frenkie de Jong among others deputizing. If Ajax can find a way to hold on to these guys for a few years and build around them I think they could even do well in Europe for a while.

  13. I just learned that Piet Keizer died. Another great player left for greener pastures.
RIP Piet and thanks for the wonderful performances we could enjoy.

Shame to hear he passed away. A rare individual without whom Dutch football would be very different today.

With a first half full of lethargic play and a non-existent midfield (so what's new there?), a nice ghost move past three players by Traore who calmly slotted the ball home. Dolberg scored the comfort goal just after the half off nice pass from Ziyech who was set in by Younes. The defense didn't have much to do and a nice save by Onana in the final 10 minutes kept the clean sheet. Unfortunately, no ground was gained on the league leaders who are doing what former Oakland Raiders (American football for those not in the know) Al Davis famously said, "Just Win Baby" and the Rotterdam club is doing just that. Ajax have to keep their focus and just keep playing to win every week.

    Player Ratings:

Onana (7) - not much to do until a very nice save near the end of the match, did distribute the ball quickly which is job number one
Sinkgraven (7) - very fine match today; a couple of good interventions and some fine movement in the offensive half
Viergever (7) - solid all match with a couple of chances on goal; moved out to LB when Riedewald came on late
Sanchez (7.5) - disrupted every offensive movement that came his way and his passing was excellent
Veltman (7) - really didn't have to defend but did a great job going foward
Schöne (4) - two good free kicks but sluggish everywhere else; the Wenger rule needs to be invoked "Don't resign any players 30 years or older; the young midfielders are more than ready to take over
el Capitan (4) - do you think he is surprised that nobody on the team will pass to him? aside from a couple of half chances on goal this was a woeful performance; let's hope some Italian club comes for him this summer
Ziyech (6) - hot and cold today, some good passes and some really bad ones; needs to play with consistency
Younes (6) - finally seems to learn that he has to pass more which he is doing but his finishing which is usually decent was missing today as he should have had at least one goal
Dolberg (7) - really getting a lot stronger and assured on the ball; if he only had a midfield that could find him more often
Traore (7) - wonderful slaloming move to wake things up just before the break
Riedewald (6) - on for Sinkgraven and slotted into the central defense where he was better than average
Kluivert (5.5) - didn't have as much time to impress today but had one good drive to the goal but shot wildly
de Jong (6) - too bad he only got four minutes or so, assured on the ball and had a wicked shot on goal that required a good save

Europa League beckons this Thursday with the first of a two way tie against Legia of Warsaw. I'm not sure whether the Polish league is back from winter break or not so a fit Ajax may have a leg up. However, the club's European record in recent years is nothing to write home about. Next Sunday a tricky road trip to play Vitesse while Feyenoord who are out of Europe play ADO.

Really good play from Ziyech on Dolberg's goal. It's unbelievable how we let this man go since we don't have a single AMF at the moment.
Let's hope for Nouri, Noah Lang or even de Jong. Let's see

What type of player. Lang is not an attacking midfielder? I need to see him more then. Can you make a quick view on him?
    Thank you

^^From the games I've seen him play he is nothing special and I cannot see him breaking into the senior team given the talent above him.

Intresting, sinkgraven made it into the eredivisie team of the week, contrary to your his rating which kind of sounds flat. Jus curious here, though I never watched the game.does he look like thriving at LB and what does his future hold for if he continues playing there.

Its good to see him getting game time but from NT point of perspective I think he is losing a lot.
I feel his best position is LAM especially in diamond midfield or 4-3-2-1.

  23. This was a Rotterdam view of him, AD Sportwereld's ratings of the match and Daley man of the match:
    Ajax - Sparta 2-0
    Ajax: Onana 6,5; Veltman 6,5, Sánchez 7, Viergever 6,5, Sinkgraven 7 (72. Riedewald -); Klaassen 5,5, Schöne 5,5 (88. De Jong -), Ziyech 6; Traoré 7, Dolberg 6, Younes 4,5.
    Sparta: Kortsmit 6; Dumfries 4,5, Breuer 5, Van Drongelen 6, Floranus 5,5; Mendes da Silva 5 (77. Goodwin -), Sanusi 5, Dijkstra 6; Cabral 5 (46. Saksela 5), El Azzouzi 5, Calero 4,5 (85. Pusic -).
    Scheidsrechter: Van Boekel 6,5.

I praised him saying he had a very fine game. Note that I am conservative in assigning points. I don't think I've ever given a nine and players have to do something very special to get an 8. I think he deserved to be on the team of the week and he's settling in at LB very nicely.

I find AD Sportworld's ratings very strange. No way does Klaassen deserve a better than average score. I don't understand why nobody comments on the fact that his teammates don't pass to him at all. They certainly know something the experts don't.

  25. It would be interesting to see a heat map that shows how connected he is with the rest of the team.
