I'm still thinking some of the very end of the roster may be traded or cut and that they will add more players before the season even if the roster seems full.
Central midfield replacement for Ortiz still seems like a possible concern.............................
I'm sure OP has 10 Colombians on speed call who could be here within a week. And now that I think about it that was McKennie's spot had he not bolted.
You know who excites me more than Colman? The playmakers on his club team that set him up with crazy good passes! I fear he's a product of exceptional playmakers but hey, we have them too.
According to news coming out of Sao Paulo, Cristian Colmán had agreed on a 4 year deal with them. Both the player and the club were 100% certain the move was a done deal. Sao Paulo were certain they had just beaten out Gremio for his services. It may all just be propaganda, but reports out of Sao Paulo claim that Cristian Colmán would prefer to play in Brazil, and that the player is not happy his club chose the club in the US (FCD). Sao Paulo also claims that Cristian Colmán has told his club that he refuses to go to Dallas. http://spfconline.com.br/colman-nac...o-ir-para-o-dallas-e-quer-jogar-no-sao-paulo/ So my guess is that the delay in the announcement, is the team and player agreeing on a contract.
Tim Vickery has said many times that Paraguayan and Peruvian stars sometimes only sign one big deal in their career. Something about the cultures and easy satisfaction. Maybe that's happening in this instance.
http://www.urgentenews.com.br/press...a-ir-aos-eua-colman-bate-o-pe-pelo-sao-paulo/ It states that Nacional and Colmán met Wednesday, and that both sides have opposite views. Nacional is fully intent on selling Colmán to FCD. It states FCD 's offer is 1.5m with Nacional getting 50% of any future transfer fee. Colmán is insisting to be sold to Sao Paulo, and supposedly his uncle had already worked out a 4 year contract with Sao Paulo a week earlier. It states Sao Paulo's offer is 1.1m and Nacional gets 50% of any future transfer fee. But, Sao Paulo can only pay 700k now, and would pay the rest later. The FCD deal is clearly the better deal, and Nacional has urged Colmán to sign a contract with FCD. Today's meeting reached an impasse, so they will meet again tomorrow.
It always gripes me when MLS teams go off the continent for GKs. $ and international spots are better spent on players who are a significant level above what we can get in North America. The VORP (value over replacement player) for a mid-level South American goalie is minimal at best - ref. Dario Sala.
I'd normally be alarmed at someone kicking and screaming about coming here but I trust Pareja would never bring in any nut jobs to his Utopian locker room.
I too am hesitate of taking on a player that doesn't want to be here particularly with the transfer fee being talked about without a consistent track record of performance. It seems a bit diva for a guy who has but a few skins on the wall.
http://touch.metro.us//new-york/mls...tine-left-back-update/zsJqal---6njGw8mfA08go/ Says Colmán has signed, and his salary will be just over 1m.
Sometimes its the agent or crazy family member that's the diva & not the player himself I think what folks should take from a case like this is how much trouble South American soccer is in. Sao Paulo, one of the biggest clubs in the Brasileirão, were seemingly only capable of paying 700k up front for this player. FCD offered a better financial package. Nacional actually trusted FCD to pay.
I think it would be better to say they didn't trust Sao Paulo to pay probably especially the second payment as they would no longer have the player. This kind of jibes with all of the Costa Rican players coming to MLS. Is there a problem there with getting paid on time or is it just better salaries in MLS now?
The signing of Colman (if the FCD brass think its done), might change our draft strategy today. If we have Colman, Urutti, Tesho, Craft (who I'm guessing might play more on the right wing), Bonner, etc...............do we really need to draft an NCAA forward? My guess for today is that we draft the "best CB available." Matt Doyle now has us taking DFW-native Brandon Aubrey: http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/01/13/armchair-analyst-2017-mock-superdraft-v2-0 Brandon had a fantastic NCAA career at Notre Dame, but struggled on the first day of the combine. If he drops, FCD should nab him. He was seemingly the consensus best senior CB in the draft prior to the combine. Do a couple of "bad days at the office" undo his performance as a four-year starter in the toughest conference in the NCAAs? I don't think so. Do it! What FCD could also use from this draft, a central midfielder to put in the Acosta/Grueso/Ulloa rotation, doesn't seem to be available. The MLS-ready central midfielders are in short supply in this draft, and they seem to be taken in most mocks well before pick 18. Also, this draft is apparently light on goalkeepers. They might be able to get the best keeper in the draft in the 2nd round to round out the keeper corps for this season.
Shamit Shome. A box to box midfielder, who projects to be more of a #6. He's a Generation Adidas player, and has 1 year starting experience in the NASL. If he falls out of the top 10 (a very real possibility), I'm all for FCD moving up to get him. SBI 2017 MLS Draft Positional Rankings | SBI Soccer Mock Drafts have him going all over the place. Some even have FCD passing on him. I just can't see FCD passing on a young player who not only fills a team need, but has actual pro experience, and will not count towards the salary cap.
Well. We did pick a "#8" to go into our central midfield rotation. Picked Jacori Hayes out of Wake Forest. I like it. A little on the small side, but a nice player.
yes, I am surprised he fell to FCD, There's still a couple of players available that I like. So FCD, who has 2 picks next round, could still end up with some decent picks in that round.
So happy with all 3 selections. 1. Jacori Hayes. A box to box midfielder. that fills a need for FCD. 2. Walker Hume. A 6'5 Texan, that will add needed depth at CB. 3. Adonijah Reid. 17 year old Canadian. Generation Adidas player.
FCD is really good at this. They have a plan for how to build their team and go out and do it. So many teams in all sports don't have a coherent vision of how to carry out a plan. Meaning I've wondered why Cowboys for so long with the most money and a hard salary cap didn't have by far the best coaches and scouts and drafts. Seems they may be finally figuring that out. FCD has a great academy augmented by great drafts and young S. American talent. They know who they are and what to do.
The importance of having a clear "mission statement" and business plan can't be understated. I look at clubs like the Fire and have no clue what their business plan is. They're all over the place.
The news out of S. America is that Colmán signed with FCD for 700k a year, with a 300k signing bonus. I don't know the length of the contract, but I'm sure that will be part of the official announcement.
