A very interesting list. Thanks. Of course, I have some disagreements. Press, Brian, and Solo are overrated by about 5 positions each. Colaprico at no. 16? Good Lord, no....she's not nearly that good. Klingenberg at no 40? Kick her up about 20 spots. Ashley Sanchez also deserves a big jump up. Sophia Huerta doesn't make the list?
As far as is known publicly, she isn't eligible for the USWNT. Unless she has filed a one-time switch, she is still tied to Mexico.
Yeah, that may be true. I would rate Huerta right behind Shea Groom -- and probably ahead of Colaprico. The Chicago Red Stars, with all their talent, I thought, underperformed a little bit last year. They should have been in the finals.
According to Jeff Kassouf (442, etc). If either the union intends to strike or the USSF plans a lock out they need to file that intention 60 days in advance. Nether side has filed. As to FIFA dates, the USSF has usually blamed working outside the FIFA calendar on the needs of their tv contract.
Keep in mind the intention here was ranking players based on their 2016 and not their careers. Obviously the list is totally subjective but that's part of the fun. As to complaints, Id start with Lloyd at #2. While she ran up some stats all but one of her goals were against teams outside the top ten and most of her assists as well. On the club side, she missed most of the season.
I find the way the article's are laid out very hard to follow to see relative ratings, so I made a plain text list you can see here: http://pastebin.com/3zP6gQDz I was thinking 40 was about right. Maybe a bit higher than I'd personally rank her, but fair enough. I do agree with this. I was thinking Solo and Naeher should be swapped in order. And Horan should definitely be above Brian and Press. I agree. No way Lloyd was #2 based on 2016. Top 20, sure. Maybe top 10 if you weight USWNT more than NWSL. I do think Heath far and away deserved the #1, so have no qualms with that pick. And I would say Allie Long deserved #3... (never thought I'd be saying that).

So No Leroux, Pugh or Klingenberg Ohai, Short, Edmunds, Williams, McDonald back from last round Add Gibbons and Smith to the mix Lavelle, Campbell and Franch back
Leroux gave birth 2 months after A-Rod did, so I don't think she would likely be back until March or so. Pugh and Kling are out with injuries.
U-23 WNT camp will happen Jan 6-13 in Carson, CA (the week before the full team's camp begins). In the article: "U.S. WNT head coach Jill Ellis and her staff will observe several training sessions to evaluate players for potential full Women’s National Team call-ups." Roster: GOALKEEPERS (4): Laurel Ivory (West Florida Flames; Surfside, Fla.), Casey Murphy (Rutgers; Bridgewater, N.J.), Madalyn Schiffel (Seattle Reign FC; Citrus Heights, Calif.), Hannah Seabert (Pepperdine; Riverside, Calif.) DEFENDERS (8): Maddie Bauer (Stanford; Newport Beach, Calif.), Mandy Freeman (USC; Royal Palm Beach, Fla.), Tavia Leachman (Utah; Long Beach, Calif.), Kayla Mills (USC; West Covina, Calif.), Sydney Miramontez (Nebraska; Lenexa, Kan.), Gabrielle Seiler (Florida; Peachtree City, Ga.), Erica Skroski (Sky Blue FC; New Brunswick, N.J.), Samantha Witteman (Orlando Pride; Redondo Beach, Calif.) MIDFIELDERS (11): Morgan Andrews (USC; Milford, N.H.), Tierna Davidson (Stanford; Menlo Park, Calif.), Jordan DiBiasi (Stanford; Littleton, Colo.), Megan Dougherty Howard (Florida; Largo, Fla.), Tyler Lussi (Princeton; Lutherville, Md.), Ifeoma Onumino (California; Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), Toni Payne (Duke; Birmingham, Ala.), Brianna Pinto (CASL; Durham, N.C.), Margaret Purce (Harvard; Silver Spring, Md.), Morgan Proffitt (Marquette; Columbus, Ind.), Ashley Sanchez (So Cal Blues; Monrovia, Calif.) FORWARDS (7): Makenzy Doniak (Western New York Flash; Chino Hills, Calif.), Danica Evans (Colorado; Lakewood, Colo.), Ashley Hatch (BYU; Gilbert, Ariz.), Sarah Luebbert (Missouri; Jefferson City, Mo.), Savannah McCaskill (South Carolina; Chapin, S.C.), Hailey Skolmoski (Utah; Riverton, Utah), Crystal Thomas (Georgetown; Elgin, Ill.)
Interesting to see Ashley Sanchez in the mix here. Looks like they are really pushing to get her better prepared for the next full WNT call up.
Notes: There are some high schoolers in this roster: 16-year-old Briana Pinto and 17-year-olds Ashley Sanchez and Laurel Ivory. Nearly half of the roster have declared for the NWSL draft. Spelling correction on one name: Ifeoma Onumonu. (I copied and pasted from USSF website, so I blame them. )
My guess is some type of personal commitment (possibly academics-related?). I doubt she was just left off the roster, and AFAIK, she's not injured.
Never trust local African web sources. It would have made absolutely no sense for Payne to change now as she's on the cusp of the NWSL (the new gateway to the NT) and there is nothing of importance on the international calendar (beyond the 2018 AWCoN).
What about emails from a Nigerian prince who needs my bank account numbers, so that he can conveniently get his money from overseas and into the US? For my help, he's going to give me a few thousand dollars! I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
Strange but true: Lloyd won FIFA Best Women's Player: REACTION: Hear from 🇺🇸 co-captain @CarliLloyd after she was named #TheBest FIFA Women's Player 2016 on Monday🏆🗣https://t.co/1n0sAdJ7tS pic.twitter.com/QhZz3MktR0— FIFA Women's World Cup (@FIFAWWC) January 10, 2017 (Neid won the Best Women's Coach award.)
Surprising that a German player didn't win POY I guess voters are still seeing that Lloyd shot from the center circle in the 2015 WWC final.
