What's the likelihood of both NASL and USL getting sanctioned as D2?

Looks like they aren't going under and are combining with another league and pro/rel will be introduced. Full info should be released soon.

Even less likely than both NASL and USL getting sanctioned D3.

    6) Commisso (typo)

    ------------------------------------------------

    My initial reaction is "what?!?!"

I thought Jacksonville was good as dead? and it was FT. Lauderdale that was in the mix.

And here's the other thing. what about all these new teams Peter Wilt is bringing in.

And how are these new owners going to get set up in time when they don't even have a stadium situation setup where they can play at?

These possible owners won't even finalize the purchase agreements until they get word on sanctioning.

Jacksonville seems to have a potential buyer, but until they finalize the sale, the league will run the team. Even if they aren't able to finalize the sale it is technically only for a season because a number of teams are joining either in the fall season or next year.

If true, Commisso would be a big time get for the NASL. He has great media connections and plenty of money. And he knows the sport, having played at Columbia - the entire soccer complex is named after him.

I wonder what the plan for a home venue would be? The soccer stadium at Columbia is not big enough for DII, the capacity is only 3,500. It's close to Yankee Stadium and the university's own website says parking is "extremely limited" - at least for football.

Almost as intriguing are the developments in Florida...who could the new boss in Jacksonville be?

Can't speak for the other teams but the one potential team I know of is lining up a college for the short term and has a group ready to build a new development. It's supposed to be sports, living and shopping.

Owners and NASL had idea of which way it was leaning for a week or so now. As well as a back up plan if they were wrong and the league folded. But obviously the league not folding was the goal.

You had to get the sense that the delay from U.S. Soccer favored the status quo position. To effectively kill off the league at this point would doom the clubs who stuck it out to at least one year of going dark, and could possibly kill them off altogether. That seems to be what the federation is trying to avoid.

This map shows all the parking options, the rest is park, river, or MTA owned.

I seriously doubt they'll get either venue(Bakers field or Wien). The area has a HUGE NIMBY contingent I live in the area and when RB2 played ONE game the area went ape shit (saying it was too crowded with fans and parking for locals was impossible) the attendance for that game? 498 brave souls, I'd imagine the Cosmos even at this time could easily draw 3 times that so I really doubt that is an option.

I totally agree with this statement the USSF will give them another year if they can somehow get it together (I highly doubt that by the way) then great, if they fail and fold well the deposit for NC, Indy has lapsed so they can join the USL along with any other sustainable team (possibly Jax and SF) Edmonton will move to the CPL and at the end of the day no one can blame the USSF for not giving the NASL as many chances as it needed to survive.

I'd feel a whole lot better about the league if they announced his termination. I personally think their needs to be some form of blood letting in the NASL FO so you can actually claim you're trying to head in a new direction and the old B.S is behind them.

I truly hope they don't do that it would sink two leagues after a year or two. The NASL needs to solidify itself financially before they can even think about doing anything close to pro/reg.

To be honest I don't remember which league I was told it was. But I think it's the NPSL. That was his original goal for his team and after linking up with the right people/groups he has the goal has grown to the NASL. Dude can network like no other.

I really don't see how the NPSL can do this with the NASL as they'd have to meet D2 requirements if they wanted to do that and I believe they have exactly ZERO teams that meet that requirement for D2.

I suppose as long as you have some sort of Promotion Minimum Requirements in place that are actually enforced, you could have it written in the rules even if the promotions/relegation aren't actually happening... then it will be in place for X years down the road when it actually is feasible....

I think this is the line of thought. I'm not in the room but what I was told is they're working on that. It might a few years down the line from when it's introduced but they're laying the foundation

Only way I could see it being done.... more speculating... maybe only Promotion with no relegation to start... could say relegation doesn't start until NASL hits 20 teams or whatever.... then you get the two way movement... would sort of lead to slow growth.. if you say 3 teams Promoted each year... and only 1 of the 3 NPSL teams meet the requirements only 1 team moves up, the other 2 stay down.... could maybe start new expansion teams in NPSL or whatever league it is... presumably they would meet the requirments off the bat.. then they just need to finish top 3 or whatever and they are in NASL the following year with a safety net assuming NASL hasn't hit their team cap yet.

Once NASL hits their team cap 2 way movement starts... if only 1 of the NPSL teams in the promotion zone meets NASL requirements only the lowest NASL team gets demoted, the other two in Relegation zone are safe.

I suppose you could do that but who does the enforcing? After OKC, JAX and FTL I'm not totally sold that the NASL could self enforce those rules. If the USSF came in and does it then fine but I'd be wary of the NASL doing this.
