Way too much in the old thread, so it's a good time to crank out a new one. Here's the old thread: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/yank-women-on-foreign-wnt-wynt.1943490/
Some of these African news sources can be really sketchy, but I'll put this right here: http://soccerblitz.net/2016/12/29/us-female-soccer-player-dumps-us-to-play-for-super-falcons/ US U23 star Antionette Oyedupe Payne has said she has opted to change her international allegiance to Nigeria after consulting her family. “I am ready to play for Nigeria now after thinking about this decision for the past one year and getting the support of my family,” she said. TONI PAYNE MIDFIELDER http://www.ussoccer.com/players/2014/03/15/05/01/toni-payne#tab-2 Toni just finished her playing career at Duke and is in some Top 20 player lists for the NWSL draft. Changing to Nigeria now (she's provisionally cap-tied to the US, so it would be permanent) doesn't seem to make sense as there isn't much going on from an international perspective for the next 2 years, the NWSL would give the USWNT coaches a change to see her against better competition at a time when they seem to be open to newer players and Nigeria's Super Falcons are in the middle of a pay dispute with the federation.
Looking at the NWSL draft eligible list, a name popped up that surprised me: NICHELLE PRINCE Ohio State United State & Canada She has 21 caps and 6 goals for Canada, including an Olympic bronze medal. http://canadasoccer.com/?t=profile&pid=2621 Her college bio: http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/w-soccer/mtt/nichelle_prince_852433.html Pickering Soccer Club, Canadian National Team and Canadian U-17 and U-20 Teams: Prince played club soccer from 2009-11 for Pickering Soccer Club but also was a member of the Canadian U-17 National Team since 2010 and member of Canadian U-20 national team pool ... member of the 2014 Canadian U-20 World Cup team ...earned first cap with Canadian Women's National Team in Four Nation's Women's Tournament in China in January 2013 ... came off the bench to score lone goal in Canada's match against Korea Republic ... helped Canadian U-17 team to finals of CONCACAF World Cup qualifier in 2012 Confirmation of her dual citizenship: http://nbc4i.com/2016/04/05/road-to-rio-osu-soccer-star-aims-to-win-gold-for-home-country/ Born in Toronto, Canada, Prince is a dual citizen of Canada and The United States of America. She began playing for the Canadian Youth Soccer program in 2010 when she was just fifteen years old. “Even though I’m a dual citizen, I’ve always wanted to play for Canada and that’s where my heart is what my dream has always been,” said Prince.
