So I'm starting this early for a couple of reasons.

To talk about the teams who qualify and to talk about the new format as it finalizes

Here are the teams who have qualified so far

    Argentina

    Lanus
    Godoy Cruz
    San Lorenzo
    Estudiantes

Copa Argentina possible winners: River Plate, Union Santa Fe, Gimnasia La Plata, Boca Juniors, Belgrano, Rosario Central

    Bolivia

    Sport Boys Warnes
    The Strongest
    Jorge Wilstermann

    Brazil

None qualified but Palmeiras and Flamengo are very likely to qualify

    Chile

    U. Catolica

    Colombia

    Atletico Nacional
    Independiente Medellin

    Ecuador

    Barcelona

    Mexico

    Chivas

    Peru

None qualified but most likely only 1 of Municipal, Universitario, Cristal and Melgar will miss out.

    Paraguay

    Libertad
Likely Olimpia looking at the table

    Venezuela

    Zamora
    Carabobo

Hopefully La U qualifies for this years Libertadores.

If we do I'll probably go to all our home games and 1 away depending on the locations.

We can forget about Chivas, Pumas, Club America, Pachuca, or any other Liga MX team playing this year.

Yep, heard that. I wonder which countries will get the remaining spots.

Knowing CONMEBOL, Brazil will get them

So I guess this is provisional since they don't have a team right now ( :( ), but Chapecoense have qualified for the Copa Libertadores group stage by virtue of being awarded the 2016 Copa Sudamericana.

I see that the Copa Libertadores have adopted the UEFA CL policy of sending teams that finish in third-place of their groups to the Copa Sudamericana.

Based off what I saw last night, we didn't get any of them.

Gremio group is a complete joke. River and Mineiro also got easy ones.

Emelec is the weakest team from pot 2 (other than Chapecoense which are a ? mark at the moment).

DIM isn't the weakest from pot 3, but also wasn't the worst possibility.

River has no excuse to not take 1st place in this group.

River aren't as good as you assume them to be right now. Could go either way. Emelec and DIM are both good teams capable of qualifiying. River could go through or maybe not but if all 3 teams play at a high level it will be even.

River has right now the best attacking duo in the continent I would say (Alario and Driussi) and good enough midfield, they need to sort out their defense but they were struggling with injuries there. If they hire some quality cretive MF to replace D'alessandro they are clearly going for the title.

Emelec will finish bottom of their group. They've lost both Mena and Straq.

One thing that I don't like about this new Copa format is that they changed the way knockout stages are decided...

Instead of the "best" first playing the "worst" second (and so on) as had been occurring, the 2017 Copa will implement a "Champions League-style" draw to decide the Round of 16 matchups.

I don't like it because there can always be interests and $$ talking when you're "randomly" picking who faces who... besides that, it takes away the incentive for teams who qualify early in the group stage to still go for the 3 points in their remaining matches, since it will now make literally no difference if they win or lose those games.

I dunno, with the old format you could have teams from the same group play each other again in the round of 16.

Also its a bit silly to rank teams when those teams played against completely different opponents.

I prefer this system. There is still some incentive to win your group because then theoretically you'll improve your chances for an easier round of 16 draw.

Ok, I haven't seen any advertisements for the Libertadores on Fox. Are they showing it in the US??

It kinda sucked them not showing the Sudamericana but the Libertadores is a huge deal. I'd hate to go back to the bad old days in the 90s when you had to go to bars and restaurants in the middle of the week to watch a damn Libertadores game.

this channel gets worse as the years go by.

FOX Sports has the first preliminary phase up on their site
    http://www.foxsports.com/soccer/scores?competition=28

although it wouldn't surprise me if these people don't show it either, especially now as there are no mexican teams on it.

Do you think FOX will put these games on their streaming channels? I know FOX streaming is not free (unlike ESPN, BeIN, NBC and every other channel I can think of ) but I'd probably be willing to pay a small monthly price for having all the games available.

Well, I was thinking more about streaming from South American sources.... I've been playing with kodi on my firestick (not much luck so far) but my PC Is connected to my other TV and I usually get tolerable streams for events we don't get through TV...
