No Brad isn't. He's a solid above average keep and had a stretch where he was preforming at a crazy level and keeping Villa in the EPL. He's on down right now but a return to the MLS for game time is understandable and smart for him at this point. It's been said that depending on the team it's gonna be non DP money too.
he should stick it off. it'd be 1 thing if this was April and he hadn't played in 6 months but it's only Dec and he hasn't played in like 2 months for the club. A return to MLS might see him earning as low as 300 K and a maximum of 900 K IMO (if he has 1 hell of an agent).
He prob won't get DP money cause he's limping back to the MLS and unlike Howard he doesn't have WC success stories to advocate for DP money at the GK spot. He will prob get the most you can give a non DP.
which makes this even more unusual. Unless he simply wants to come home but I doubt the Fire do all they can to get him as their no.1 but i'm no everyday follower so I've no clue how Johnson is doing now at the club?
Johnson will be moved to Atlanta. He's from the area as well for allocation money. And it's all about PT. Few clubs besides and MLS side would buy him. MLS makes sense and he gets to return home.
If the Fire is getting allocation money I could see Guzan coming back from 500K/yr. He made some good money but I bet with a new kid and his current situation he'd love to come back and try and build something in MLS.
Probably for the best. I'm sure he'd do whatever he can to get home. Maybe he gets some promotional $$. does he speak Polish? maybe that might help somewhat
Hearing @bguzan is signing with @ATLUTD for the 2017 @MLS season. #MLSCup— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) December 9, 2016
Hearing Guzan is washed up. He looked like he was developing into a quality premier league starter there for awhile. I don't know why he fell so hard but these things happen in sport.
Man, our GK pipeline really has dried up. For me it's quite important to have our NT GK regularly defending against top flight attackers. Never been that impressed with Guzan though. Wouldn't be surprising to see him washout of England. Who knows, by 2018 maybe Horvath is playing UCL ball for Brugge.
We have been spoiled. Folks don't realize how good you really have to be to crack a starting EPL slot and hold on to it if you aren't a Brit. Guzan is good enough to be the #1 at a lower end club, but if his D is a mess, he's not superman. Howard benefited from being at better clubs (and is a better keeper anyway.) Brad F. was always a better keeper. Keller as well. Guzan, if he's playing regularly is a very decent keeper. We've just had 25 years of better than decent.
I'd say that's true to some extent, but goalkeepers are different. There are only like, 5 English starters in the league. Foster, Forster, Heaton, Pickford, Butland if he's not hurt. Did I miss any?
I think he signs with Atlanta then is traded for Sean instead of trading the spot. It's all semantics in the end.
But would anyone argue that England fields 5 of the top 50-60 keepers in the world? It's not a disqualifying bump and I didn't mean to make it sound that way, but if Guzan were English he'd be kicking around on an EPL bench for the rest of his career, I'd bet. And that's fine. A home league should have a few more locals.
though English fans still would underrate our boys even Friedel. I never saw Keller at his prime so I don't know about him. But I recall Howard was arguably world class back in 09 for Everton and the NT.
That was cool how we had so many good keepers for so long. Even during a bad YA stretch you could always count on Friedel or Howard to carry the flag. Friedel at Villa was probably one of my favorite YA spells. He rarely had a bad game there.
I do wonder beyond the clubs they played for how highly rated was Howard or Friedel like say in European eyes. and its just interesting how we always had our top keepers in the PL. Like nowhere else
Friedel and Keller both played in other leagues. Friedel at Galtasaray and Keller at Rayo Vallecano and Borussia MGB (and Leicester!).
