    The Best FIFA Football Awards to crown The Best of 2016

    The Best of 2016 will feature an improved voting system that will enable fans to support the player and coach of the year in both men’s and women’s football. The winners will be chosen via a process in which 50% of the result is based on the choices of captains and head coaches of all of the world’s national teams. The other 50% will be split between the result of an online public ballot and the submissions from a selected group of more than 200 media representatives from around the world.

    A total of eight trophies will be presented at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony:

    * The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016
    * The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2016
    * The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2016
    * The Best FIFA Women’s Coach 2016
    * The FIFA Puskás Award 2016
    * The FIFA Fair Play Award 2016
    * The FIFA Fan Award 2016
    * FIFA FIFPro World11

    Professional footballers from around the world will select their dream line-up of 2016 by voting for the FIFA FIFPro World11. Fans will choose the winner of the FIFA Puskás Award for goal of the year through an online public ballot, while a group of football experts will decide the recipient of the FIFA Fair Play Award.

    The first activity related to The Best of 2016 will get underway this week with the unveiling of the shortlists for four awards:

    * Tuesday, 1 November: ten candidates for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach 2016
    * Wednesday, 2 November: ten candidates for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2016
    * Thursday, 3 November: ten candidates for The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2016
    * Friday, 4 November: 23 candidates for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016

    The voting process for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2016 in the four categories above will be launched on 4 November and will close on 22 November. The final list with the three nominees for each of these awards will be unveiled on 2 December.

    I don't think Precheur or Worle should be on the list either, Both had phenomenally well stacked teams, perhaps even stronger then most top ten NT's out there! But at least the former won the CL, whereas the latter got eliminated rather early, plus Worle will incredibly go with 5 player defensive unit even vs the most sub par opponents in the Bundesliga. That only 492 spectators showed up at his last Munich game, attributes to what a bore fest his team has become to watch.

    I believe either Neid or Herdman win. Neid, because she won the Olympics, plus retiring will be an added touch. Herdman because he won the most games at the OG(five to Neid's four), and some of them(like the 2-0 win vs Australia while one player down) were very impressive. But I don'think his brute/physical style is good for woso. So I would pick Neid.

    The one coach that is curiously omitted, or should get a special, the comeback kid, award is Pat Riley, the coach pf the Flash. Americans fans hated him when he was coaching the Thorns, and thought they got rid of him when he got fired. But this season took over the Flash, that were only rated to finish 6-9th, pre-season, and of course took them all the way to the championship/ Glad that at least he stuck it to the so called NWSL experts!

    looks like another nominee has fallen. Brazil has replaced Vadao with Emily Lima, the 36 year old coach of the club team, San Jose

    Lotta Schelin isn't even nominated for the Swedish Football Awards so kind of strange to see her here.

    I was expecting at least Lindahl to make the list, winning two straight shot outs in the most important tourney of year would seem quite an achievement. Others missing; Pernel Harder, top scorer on the top team in the Swedish league & Lucy Bronze, best player on her NT & for the league champs, Man City

    This award ALWAYS has players only on the list via name recognition... So that's the case here.

    Behringer should win it really, Gold medal plus Bundesliga winner and she was influential in the Olympics tournament. Saying that it looked through the years that the voters never got the memo :D

    Did you even realized that you contradicted yourself....:eek:...Precheur should win this or be second (after Neid) because he brought Lyon to the legendary status, officialy the best female football club ever, by winning with his own tactics, 3-5-2 instead of OL usual 4-3-3 for ex.
    He is also responsible for the huge development of Majri, Hegerberg, Mbock and Kumagai in her new position.
    Canada third place was a notable achievement but they did it by playing too physical, dirty for my taste....

    For the players nominated...A JOKE ...incredibly more risible than usual :eek::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:...Ada Hegerberg european player of the year not even on the list.....:speechless: no comment.

    I am surprised. Why no Maroszan?

    Marta? Really? Again? Where women's football is at right now?

    And Lloyd sounds just like the automatic: "Well, she won last year so of course we can't keep her out of top 3, can we?"

    "The final contenders for The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2016 have been revealed. The following three players remain in the running for this coveted award, having been narrowed down from an initial shortlist of ten, selected by football experts from the FIFA Women’s Football & FIFA Women’s World Cup Committee, by a voting process split evenly between national coaches, national captains, select members of the media and fans. The winner will be revealed at the ceremony in Zurich on 9 January."

    Selecting the top 10 that committee should be ashamed of themselves.
    And then the national coaches, captain and media voters, what the hell were they thinking ?
    I would guess fans voted for their favourites for the vast majority but it is kind of ok but the other 3 categories, they should know better.

    Well, it would seem that Lloyd, at least, is having a better year statistically than last year, when she won the award.

    National Team/Country Stats:
    Lloyd Stats.jpg

    Club Stats:
    2016: NWSL - 7 games 5 goals
    2015: NWSL - 12 games 4 goals

    It's funny how your mind can play tricks on you when strictly using the eyeball test.
    It's always good to go back and look at the numbers. Statistics don't lie.

    Lloyd won the world cup with a hat-trick in the final in 2015, that's why she won the player of the year award ( and rightly so) .

    I bet if you looked at just the top 40 or 50 WoSo nations, you'd have a very different top 3. Just based on the history of the award, the votes from the nations you never hear about almost always are nothing more than name recognition.

    lmao Marta and Lloyd shouldn't be on this lol, this is ridiculous. Behringer had a great year tho with her club and a fantastic olympic tournament, so it's understandable.

    My top 3 would be Marozsan, Henry and Abily - at least one of them should be on the list

    This FIFA prize should have been awarded by a selected group of knowledgeable journalists (not players or coaches) who actually follow the women's game from week to week at both club and NT level as their occupation. You get nothing for free following woso, it takes a lot of time and effort just to follow one league with the limited media coverage out there. You need people who have a passion for this to determine who deserves nominations and prizes. Otherwise it will just be another "best player of tournament x prize" paired with geographical factors and so called "fame".

    Tonight's ceremony will be livestreamed. Info here: http://www.fifa.com/the-best-fifa-f...om-2862310.html?intcmp=fifacom_hp_module_news

    But what I'm kind of "geeking out" over is the info and video on twitter of the "Legends" games that they had this morning:

    Haha! They better have a few ambulances on hand, some of those guys look like they're going to have a coronary at any moment. Will the legends games be available for viewing with anything other than a shaky cell phone camera via periscope? It does seem pretty cool and fun to watch with 15 minute halves and one female player per team.
