TBF his dad was one of the greatest soccer players of all time. If you Google his highlights you can hear pronunciation.

That's fair but usually asking you guys is faster than Googling. :)

This reminds me that there are soccer fans who don't know who George Weah is.

Tbf I was like 4 when Weah played for the last real competitive team he ever played for. But my childhood coach was pretty keen on watching tape of legends. I kind of hope I'm cultured enough that I would have been aware of him without that though. My point is really that people who haven't been watching soccer for the last 15-20 years would have missed one of the greatest strikers to play the game.

I didn't know who George Weah was before this thread. All I know is Christian Pulisic, Gedion Zelalem, Emerson Hyndman, Mukwelle Akale, and Tim Weah of course.

This reminds me of a story I heard from one of my dad's friends, who told me he first realized he was truly old when he met someone in their young 20s who didn't know who Larry Bird was -- and this was in the Boston area.

Shocking to me. Even if you're not old enough to have seen him play (like me) you should still know of him. It'd be like being a younger NBA fan and not knowing who Julius Erving was.

Very glad to see Weah continuing to be a standout in PSG's setup. I keep reminding myself that he's a '00.

He's a pure #9 for PSG but has played almost entirely at RW for the US, which is a shame.

I'm assuming your silence in this thread tells us something about the lack of him being called up to the U-20 camp in England?

Sorry, I figured if he is with the PSG U-19's he might be ready for the US U-20?

Sorry just read that he is a 2000. That is crazy.

Yep, a 16 year old U.S. youth international scoring goals for fun with the U-19's of PSG. I hope at least some of these young guns can make it.

It's in part because he does not particularly stand out when playing with youth teams. I think he looks pretty good but is not as influential or "promising" (skill or IQ wise) as Carleton, Acosta, or Goslin. That is likely due to having to spend more time playing out wide and maybe not playing in as defined a system as he does with his club. It might also be the case that his club has superior talent compared to the competition and he benefits from that.

Judging based on how Pulisic, Wright, Gaines, Taitague, and McKennie have adjusted to the U19 level in Germany maybe our best players would, largely, be the best players on youth teams in Europe if they were able to play there. Lennon is playing up 4 years with Liverpool while DLT and Olosunde 5 with Fulham and ManU. Akale and Perez are very highly regarded in their clubs' systems. I'm not sold on the overall thesis but it might be true in enough cases that getting those guys on that path early could take them far.

Our U-17 team has some real talent, if they had the ability to get overseas, I'd bet over half the team would be there
