He isn't weak imo. But agreed.. if you exclude work rate and stamina.. he doesn't offer much. He can be aggressive going forward but he doesn't have the necessary football IQ. If you are going to be aggressive/offensive modern full-back..... you better have some end product but he doesn't (he doesn't lack basic technical ability.. which is good imo but he can't cross).

And here's the big BUT: he has got a lot of potential and needs to go to a smaller club/league to regain his true talents (which he's shown casually at KNT and in early Hoffenheim days and sometimes under Steven). Let's all agree on that.

Kinda funny how Sule keeps making hilarious errors and goes from Olympic team to NT call up. We have so much anger for young defenders who make far less mistakes.

Got dispossessed twice in his own box leading to two great chances.

Once. He's been alright today. Better than his fellow CB Schar or that RB Leipzig CB Orban.

Also, remember that our U-23 defenders play in way worse leagues than this, and not even as starters in some cases.

Jang Hyun-Soo showed some horrific defending for Guangzhou R&F this season a lot worse than Sule.

I watch Sule most every week and every week he has huge blunders. Yes he shows great upside and far more than our defenders.

My point isn't to compare our guys vs Sule. But we melt down over young players making young player mistakes while Germany looks past that.

That said we will see how long Hoffenheim willing to tolerate Ochs defense vs promise.

What do you mean we? As in the fans, media, or the NT selectors?

If you are referring to the fans, there is no player on this planet that don't get sh*t on by their fans.

Just musing watching Sule. And some of overreactions over the years.

I don't know but I got this feeling that Nagelsmann is just an overhyped manager who will fail to impress with his "revolutionary tactics". His transfer strategy, formations and player selections are much more questionnable than what Stielike's doing for KNT IMO (eg playing with two strikers Kramaric and Uth as wingers, etc).

Of course he could also be just too young, maybe he IS a big manager talent. But he hasn't impressed me so far. Even without Kim JS biased point of view.

I think history of football has always shown too much credit to managers who survive relegation.

For Hoffenheim fans it was a refreshing turn to attacking football and for German media, nice story between his age and his promotion of young German players.

I think like many young managers he needs to learn pragmatism. We will see if he sticks around long enough to do so.

My bias only kicks in when he's tried so many fullbacks to equal and repeated fail and yet still freezes out KJS. If ochs or toljan showed any ability to defend id understand more

This. It's not that I'd like Kim JS to start just based on the fact that he's Korean. But at least give him a try if no one else is significantly better, god dammit.

We will see if Mainz red card will paper over cracks in defensive meltdown as Hoffenheim claw back within one

Ok, I'll take it back. Even with one man more, it's not easy to come back after 1-4. I should've waited a little bit before posting :D

Doesn't change my mind about some of his player selecting decisions. At least he seems to be very tactically flexible, which old school managers like Stielike are not.

I wonder if he hadn't gone to military camp if he'd be gone already? I'd have thought he had some resale value before this season but now who will want him who didn't get him then?
