With all the old names that are gone, and the others still likely to be making way for new blood/ideas too, I think there's at least a whopping 11-12 spots now open to those hoping to make the next Euro squad lol.

It's crazy, but when Neid took over Germany, she was left with the spine of a WC wining side, and now Jones and her coaching staff come in, and they've got to work with a patch work squad which needs immediate rebuilding..

 

These points pretty much confirm that Silvia Neid and her coaching staff will no longer have any input into the direction of the senior team...

Finally working with the clubs having new sets of eyes assess the various options to play on the national team doesn't seem like much, but the years of animosity that had developed between the league coaches and Silvia Neid finally gets a fresh start now, and it couldn't be at a better time either as the new elite like Bayern, WOB, and even Potsdam, continue recruiting increasing numbers of foreign names to supplement their home grown squads.

Neid's extended stay has made sure there's a lot to do in order to take the national team back to being the clear #1, but quotes suggesting the new coaching staff recognize the fresh start needs to go much deeper than the surface level is a positive sign.

And it needs to be said that this squad also included a then untested but soon to be great Angerer, one of the games best forwards in Grings, and very talented benched understudies like Smisek, Müller, and Bresonik.

So from day one in charge Neid had at least four world class players down the spine of her team, and she even had enough talent in that particular side to leave Grings out from her first WC team without effect anything either...

I'll admit it took brave and sound judgement for Neid to bring in the youngsters like Laudehr, Behringer, Krahn, and Bajramaj to have a place on the team, but all Neid was doing was finding new names to blend with somebody else's already successful team.

Jones and her staff don't have that now, and will need to not only rebuild a teams system of play, but find at least three credible defensive options, fix a rudderless mid-field, and finally establish some stability to the attack.

 

Large and very athletic, Jones was a great CB in her day, so I'm not so sure she'd use such similar players like Demann and Wensing in her 1st choice CB roles. Partnerships between CB's are vital, and I could see other names being ahead of Demann if Wensing becomes first choice.

 

I'm sure the coaching staff already have a few ideas about creating a new spine to this team, but I would really like to think they've also chosen to keep Meinert in the loop during this ongoing process...

Yeah, much of that annoying old Frankfurt network stems from the fact of the DFB's headquarters being situated in the same place as Germany's #1 professional female club would operate; but the club situation has seen that player monopoly end now, with a post Essen Markus Högner coming in with a far better understanding of the wider domestic club scene too.

So more improvements still need to be made, but the club game has improved a lot more than the past generation of national team coaches were ever willing to give it credit for, and it would be good to see impressive league form help elevate a few more additional names into credible national team contention.

 

Well I do like to believe Maier to be a world class player at the Right Back position lol

Klingenberg is great tho as Lb, probably the best in the world??

 

About world class players I also think that Lena Gössling is terrific as a defensive midfielder when she's fit

 

At right back, my fav would be Lucy Bronze. Maier & Fabiana(BR) could duke it out for 2nd place! There's more contenders for left back. These would be some of the best; Cately(AU), Kling(US), Majri(FR), Greenwood(EN), Jenson(NED), as well as Kemne. But my top pick would be Ashley LAwrence of Canada(though a lot of times she plays mid)

 

Yeah I would like her to go more forward... Too bad she wasn't quite fit in the olympics

 

And who do you guys want to be the new captain? That's going to be interesting too

Yeah, I would prefer Gössling over Laudehr tho

 

And I would love to see Alushi returning back too, i really miss her and Germany could use her as a winger instead of Bremer who is still really young. Alushi/Laudehr on the flanks would've been nice

 

This is why I felt it was a major opportunity lost to allow Neid a final run at another tournament in Brazil, when we all knew it would be a far better use of time to see the Olympics be the starting point for a new look team lead by a coaching noob like Jones.

Yes, it was nice to see Germany finally complete a trio of being WC-Euro-Olympic champs, in the process managing to bring out the worst in American fans, by being the least impressive version of a German wnt and still go on to win gold medal, exposing the inferior nature of the Olympics; but seeing the rebuilding job that's needed now, you have to wonder about the various long term costs..

Can Germany head to the next Euro's with a realistic possibility of a 7th consecutive title.... yes. But if the coaches are genuinely serious about making the improvements to win a another WC, instead of having the Olympics to help establish superior ways of playing within the pressures of tournament football, it may be the Euro's Germany take a few small step backwards to take major steps forward.
