Zidane : " Mariano will stay with us this season. He is ready to fight for a place & earn minutes".
Ronaldo saw Mariano training with Castilla and was impressed by his skill and attitude. He suggested to the club that the trains with the first team. Recognized by the man himself.
Our Castilla player with the biggest balls in a long time. Willing to fight against Benzema and Morata.

Seems like a massive glut of forwards, with not nearly enough minutes.

Exactly my opinion. The thing is that Benzema has on-going hip and back injuries . He has on-going back problems ever since he came to RM. There was a scare when Morata dropped a weight on his foot . That combined with the fact that it seems like Mariano wants to stay in Madrid and fight.
Imo he should mostly play for Castilla . Call him up for things like Copa Del Ray and when one of Benzema and Morata is injured.

    Zidane confirmed this?
Wrong choice for his career. Not happy about this. When BBC is full fit, he will find it hard to get into the bench with morata, james, asensio, isco, kova, vasquez all fighting for minutes. He is already 23. At this point of his career, he needs to play regularly in the top flight. At least for a season.

As much as I was pleasantly surprised by the news this morning, I agree with this. ZZ wouldn't have him stay without a plan though. Imo , the biggest losers of this move are Vasquez and James.

I also think both Benz and Morata's injury history was taken into account but I don't get why just using James as a false 9 or CR7 in emergencies wasn't thought of.

Thing is, he's too good for Castilla. I would have preferred a loan with an option to recall in January, similar to the Llorentes. But I like the confidence he has in himself. Just hope it won't hurt his development.

This. Plus, rejecting offers from first division clubs only to send him to play for us in the 3rd division? I don't think that's the plan. Considering his age and the upcoming transfer ban, things don't looks promising at all for him.

Not sure if this is the right decision for him. I hope he proves me wrong.

He looked good in pre season. Better than Morata at moemnts. But Morata is more established at this point. Will Zidane play him over Morata if Benz is out and Morata doesn't perform upto the expectations. Only Time will tell.

Ronaldo suggesting Mariano means that he still hates Morata :)

I'll start Mariano over Morata. Seen more from him in 1 game than I have seen from Morata in 3 years.

Tremendous who we have backing up Benzema now.

All those years of having no cover, now we'll complain about having too much! Lol

This kid just has the "it" factor. I wxpect him to turn into a very good olayer if we don't stagnate him.

This is a good move because Benzema is not looking healthy. Those back and hip problems are a pain in the ass to recover from.
If half of your body is not 100% you cant really perform at a high level.

This is a very short-sighted move by Mariano. He is thinking about the immediate glory of being on Real Madrid instead of his long-term future at the club. If he stays, he will fade into oblivion, no doubt. There is too much talent on our bench to be giving minutes a 23 year old who has only performed in the 3rd division.

Isco, James, Asensio and Kovacic were already leading semi-top clubs at his age and younger. If he's a late bloomer, great, but then this is when he needs playing time to grow.

I think ZZ was keen on letting him go on loan but with Benzema's on going problems, I think he changed his mind and kept Mariano. Let's see if he is able to find minutes.

True, I thought he was a couple years younger. With Benzema injured though, if he can score in consecutive games, I see no reason why he can't break through to the first team..

He might play as soon as tomorrow. If Morata doesn't do anything in 60 minutes and we need a goal, I can see Mariano coming in and having a chance at being a hero.

At first glance it looks like the wrong move but, Benzema's nagging injuries won't go away overnight. Hips/back are some of the trickiest to deal with for an athlete.

As of now, Mariano's only competition is Morata and Mariano obviously feels pretty good about his chances, as he should.

I'm not going to complain that we have too much cover for Benz.

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he is a ZZ squad addition. After all, he was the one who approved this move. I'd like to assume that carries some weight.

I'm more nervous about Benz's issues. Those aren't problems that just go away. And he will be 29 this December. Makes you a bit worried about his future as well as grateful we have his backup. I wouldn't be surprised if he can no longer play the minutes he played the past 2 seasons. Morata and Mariana may be a good duo to back him if he misses substantial time.
