I missed the game where Beatriz scored a brace. I would have been very curious to see that, because, in the games I watched, she seemed to me like a ghost walking through the pitch. Very sub-par player.
Slaton played for the USWNT in the early 2000s as an outside back. She was on the 2000 Olympic team and the 2003 WWC team but was never really a consistent starter. She played for the Courage in the WUSA, and was Defender of the Year in 2001 or 2002.
He removed the wrong player in my view. Maybe he's concerned Cristiane cannot play a full 90 minutes.
Inconsistent refereeing is one of the worst things about soccer. She gives Marta a yellow a moment ago, then Lawrence gets no card for a worse foul not two minutes later.
Shouldn't that have been a YC? Marta is always quite quick-tempered, but this time she was right, I guess!
What a fantastic, savvy play by Fleming to set that goal up. She will be fun to watch the next 10-15 years.
Sigh, curtain and good-bye Brazil... Deanne Rose, with one goal and one assist has the most shockingly impressive performance a 17 yo could have posted in an Olympic semifinal!
Possibly the referee just saw the shove and not the foot to ankle, or at least I missed the step on the ankle live and only saw it on the replay.
Greatness recognizing greatness: Young players, please watch @sincy12 play. She is just a different class.— Mia Hamm (@MiaHamm) August 19, 2016
Cangialosi and Slaton keep saying Sinclair does not intend to retire. This surprises me a little. For both club and country it doesn't look like she has much left in the tank. Still has a good finishing touch. Perhaps Herdman intends to use her in a supersub role for the next cycle, to mentor the young forwards and score some late-game goals. Oh, and maybe break Wambach's record.
And nothing more, since Herdman subs her out and doesn't let us enjoy this little pearl a little more. Herdman playing the jerk as usual.
Young players, please watch the patience and cleverness of Fleming and the intelligent run by Rose as well.
52' 0-2 Rose drives down wide right to 10m box right, ground cross to 9m 2/5 right. Sinclair chests ball past 2, rattles into her stride at 7m center, steps to it and finishes right instep into 1/3 left. 58' 0-2 Rose hop-blocks Fabiana(?)'s backpass-try, dribbles through box top mid-left to 12m 6-left, slide-shoots rising -- off left 90, bounces away past her.
Erika! Valdao is scraping the barrel to find some magic anywhere. Edit: this also means no luck for Andressinha today, I suppose...
Seeing as Brazil is down 2-0, rather than leading, I don't expect Erika to suffer any stoppage time injuries today. Sorry, I just can't resist. I will always treasure how her embarrassing theatrics allowed the U.S. to score in 2011.
I think so but whatever. Ironically, for a home team, we really haven't been on the recipient of good calls. Erika had a future in the midfield, IMO. A couple of years ago, at the tournament in France, she really played well commanded that part of the pitch well. Unfortunately, she's spent much of her career utilized as a defender.
Lawrence is tricky. With her first few steps she doesn't appear too fast, and then she suddenly accelerates.
Danielle can be aggravating but she's spot on with most of her observations. Best female commentator in the States, for sure. Canada ain't letting this one go but good for the girls to give the crowd a goal.
That Debinha header was more difficult to miss than make. And she missed. Ball was put on a platter by Marta.
