well it looks like Sol Bamba is not starting today. It appears to be Cooper, Ayling, Bartley and Taylor across the backline.

Not very happy with this move. It's Leeds, they're not going to be in the promotion battle, and have tenured players ahead of Matt. I understand they will play a lot of games in the Championship, but I don't see him getting as many minutes as he really needs to improve. Also, as nycfc said, if he can't break into the team, it will not look good for him.

Once you cross Oder, it's downhill all the way to Moscow.

In any case, with the Championship list of fixtures, Matt will get to play somewhere some time. And no one will anoint him as their immediate starter anyway.

It'll be good experience for him. In that league every game is the Championship game.

Yeah I don't like it either. Reminds me too much of the Green loan. Feel free to start your tantrum now I'll join.

Slugging it out in the Championship will be good for him and probably an eye opener, as well.

Not a reflection on how good a prospect he is at all; it wouldn't necessarily be his fault if he isn't given significant minutes at Leeds.

It would be better for Miazga to start in League One -- or League Two, for that matter -- than to get only occasional minutes in the Championship. He's got to get consistent starts, period.

Meh, I suppose not playing is bad, but he's already been one of the best at his position in a better league than League One, let alone Two. It would like dropping down to NASL/USL after you were a young MLS standout. How would we view that? How do we view Austin Berry? He would have mobility, and he's still young, but it's not exactly good for his perception, reality. He might as well get loaned back to MLS for a season then, if it's just about continuing to play.

I guess I'd prefer he go to Leeds and fight for a spot. But it's poop or crap, in terms of what we expected when he moved there initially, or even now. At the very least, he should come in to a Championship club projected as the starter. Championship is only a little better than MLS at this point, so going there period is a disappointment, and doesn't seem much a positive for his development, even if he is a starter.

I read it again reported today that Matt rejected the Eintracht Frankfurt move, not Chelsea. Why would Chelsea reject it? It's a loan, so presumably they'd just pay his salary. Anyways, we're talking about the resources of top 3 1st tier club vs. 2nd tier. Chelsea have also shown to be very willing to loan outside of England, including Germany. They'd gain more trust from him playing in the BL as opposed to Championship. Their resale potential would be higher. I think it's Matt's insistence, at least up until this point. Agudelo apparently preferred a virtually hopeless opportunity with Wolves over going to Werder Bremen. I can't agree with their line of thinking, from a football perspective. Going to League One or Two, after being a standout in MLS, and having a BL offer, would just be next level distortion, but I don't see it coming to that. The added irony is this was the guy that implored more Americans to challenge themselves competitively with their clubs.

i don't know anything about leeds but my attitude is no matter where he goes he's gonna have to beat out the other guys to play. That's how it is in every sport. You go to the NFL you gotta beat out the other guys. Nothing's going to get given to him. If he want's to play he's gotta take it.

Agreed but at the same time, you should make a good choice on the roster depth or talent. For instance if you are a winger probably don't sign for BVB right now.

So does playing for Leeds on a Chelsea paycheck make it a better soccer move than just playing for Leeds on a Leeds paycheck?

    Only if you like money.

(and the ability to instantly move to the EPL next season - or even in Jan - if somehow you manage to play like a super-stud.)

How many of the Chelsea "loan army" actually go back and play a significant role at Chelsea?

I'm not criticizing Chelsea for their model. They have the money and can spend it however they want. It just seems like they waste an enormous amount of it.

I believe you over rate MLS and under rate the championship by a lot.

I also think you guys often leave the money the player makes out of the calculus. Sitting on the bench or a part of the loan army, his paycheck is much, much fatter than it would be in MLS. You do realize these guys do this for a living and the amount of the pay check matters.

Agudelo was so foolish. His agent must have been pulling the strings. Terrible career choice, part time player at New England. Might look back at talent wasted when his career ends... I think FC Utrecht wanted him after his loan, just the EPL wages he'd have to give up.

As for Miazga it is vital he starts should he go to a Championship side. I don't see his future at Chelsea, they'll probably buy some other centerback for 20 mil plus before the window closes. They have aging Terry, and then Cahill , and Ivanovic. Zouma isn't back yet is he?

I hope Matt is not as tense as the posters here. Not knowing anything about the roster, he will have to impress to play. They took him because they probly need cover there. Sounds like the way he broke into the red bulls. Now, he has to keep it together mentally and on the field. I'm sure the team is probly partially guys hoping to go up and guys trying to hang on. It's very competitive. Swim or go back to Jersey. BTW, Leeds Utd was a prem team for a few seasons. They had a good team who, when they sold off some good guys, went where they are and have been. Maybe they want to come back?

Are people really talking about relegation battles and League One with 43 games left in the Championship season?

Not commenting on the business model of Chelski, but it is a significant difference to being bought by Leeds and going on loan to Leeds from Chelsea, on a number of levels. Matt may never get back to Chelski's EPL side, but the route there is easier than if he's just a Leeds player.

    Well...................the paycheck is presumably nicer.

I just worry that for a young player like Miazga (with some development needs), going on loan to a club that isn't invested in his long term development isn't ideal.

If Miazga was signed directly by Leeds, they'd be invested in his development and his future. Then maybe they'd help him work thru more of his deficiencies and problem areas. They'd play him thru some tough times. They'd work with him a little harder in training.

Again, we can point to Michael Hector and Tomas Kalas. They're just passed around various football clubs on loan like they're STDs. Tomas Kalas' nickname should be Chlamydia. Chelsea bought him for 5 million pounds in 2010 and he's played a total of 4 games for them across all competitions. I'm sure Kalas makes a lot of money, so maybe he doesn't care.
