This entire Olympic tourney gave me blueballs. I was so excited when Korea topped the group that had Germany and Mexico (London 2012 gold medalists).. Yet come Honduras match....
We didn't deserve to beat Mexico. They were the better team. The roles were reversed for the Honduras match.
I guess such is football. Mexico though, had few of their key players missing for our match. I don't know what condition SHJ was in, but beyond that I think team Korea had poor approach to the Honduras game. I felt Mexico's loss was more a result of bad luck. They knew what they had to do.
http://m.sports.naver.com/rio2016/news/read.nhn?oid=076&aid=0002973655 The U23 team will return on the 17th. If this article is right, Ryu will be the only KPA to come back to Korea with the team. Isn't the K-League transfer window closed though?
Well, to be honest, you have no excuses of not winning it in Australia. Easy group, even easier route to the finals avoiding both Iran and Japan. I'd have been furious with that AC performance if I was a Korean. Considering that you faced the weakest Australian side in the past 2 decades or so. But then again, you guys are placing the blame on the wrong side of the equation. You didn't lose the AC because of your manager. You lost the AC because you don't have a single worthy finisher. You need another PJS. SHM isn't going to cut it. Who was the best striker in K-league last season? Is he getting called in to the NT?
We faced Iraq and so did you guys. The difference was that you lost against them. Thank you for your useless commentary as usual.
4 years since I last posted on this forum... I remember coming here before and after your victory over Japan for bronze in London. You sent a great team to my country and it was very disappointing that you didn't beat Germany in the group stage. Against Honduras, you created a lot but just lacked finishing. The Hondurans, in contrast, played what we in Brazil call "antijogo" (anti-game). This means legal but unsportsmanlike and cheesy tactics to delay the match. Once they were up 1-0, they began to apply this tactic. It's meant to hold the result and to psychologically destabilize opponents. And given how some of your players began to lose their cool, it worked. I watched the end of the game, and Brazilian TV commentators remarked that Korean soccer players in general abide by fair play standards, and while that's great, what we witnessed was possibly a soccer cultural clash. I speculate Korean players aren't used to that; in Latin America (especially in the Copa Libertadores), it is so common that we're desensitized to it. In any case, good luck in future tournaments. I foresaw a possible rematch with Korea in the semifinals, and the way you guys ran in the first half back in 2012 made Brazilian fans nervous. You will be in Tokyo 2020, and I expect you to be Asia's best team again.
South American football is rugged as fck. Watching Libertadores matches sometimes feels like watching UFC. CONMEBOL is way rougher and tougher than UEFA when it comes to physical play. Totally agree with all your points except for the "you sent a great team" part.
I don't care if its a guarantee or not; we need clear expectations and goals. It pisses me off when we validate a second place finish as if it were some achievement on the Asian stage. And if things are a guarantee, they shouldn't be goals.
To Marco Polo's point, we can't with the Asian Cup because we're not good enough. To my point, winning the thing was never an expectation; even if it was, there was no accountability when we haven't won. We need to start enforcing accountability with cold hard facts, when targets are not met. If we do not enforce this, will there ever be change? Targets should be stretch-goals or at least somewhat reasonable. Winning the AFC Cup is what I'd call a reasonable goal. And if the goal within reason, I'd say not meeting the goal is below expectations. Hence, not winning the Asian Cup is a failure. This is AFC, not UEFA.
First goal should be to make Korea the best team in Asia. Right now is not. No asian national team is in position to say not AFC cup win = fail, a fail for Korea would be not reach the semis.
No offense little buddy because you're more than welcome here with your odd Kwon-love but why are your English skills deteriorating? I have to agree with Amoeba though, our goal should be to win the Asian Cup because runner-up in Asia means nothing in the grand scheme. It was PJS' last goal before retirement. The man who won PL and CL titles and a fvckton of Cups as well. Our last true champion, leader and warrior. There's a reason he made it to where he did even with all his limitations, because he didn't pat himself on the back for 'winning' 2nd place.
So, if your expectation is the top 4 in Asia then is it reasonable to expect us to book 4 points in any World Cup group stage?
