So can Germany break a bunker when they face Sweden?

74' 0-2 Canada subs in (2 of 3) #6 Deanne Rose for #11 Desiree Scott.

77' 0-2 Fleming passes from 25m arc left to Matheson unmarked through box top mid-right, to 9m. Matheson shoots hard right foot across mouth, Schult leans body into path and blocks with right arm/forearm, wide left and over. Matheson is doing her part ...

80' 0-2 Germany subs in (2 of 3) #17 Isabel Kerschowski for #11 Anja Mittag.

85' 0-2 Schmidt left throw-in, back to Labbé. Canada longball to box top midleft, Germany clear into near touch.

85' 0-2 Canada subs in (3 of 3) #15 Nichelle Prince for #14 Melissa Tancredi.

87' 0-2 Germany chip from circle back(?) past circle top left to a break-away, Labbé comes all the way up to 35m  to sweep clear.

And creating a few chances now that they have come out to play, although I am reminded why i don't like Tancredi.

Won't have to see her much longer, she's retiring post-Olympics.

90' 0-2 Beckie right ck, Labbé is up! Ref whistles a retake, admonishes Labbé? Beckie ck to 6-top left, header off German backs, bounces around and Germany clear over endline left. +2'.

90+1' (of +2) 0-2 Canada left ck to 3m 1/5 right, Schult slaps it clear. Canada rushed volley at 11m 6-right to 6m 1/3 right, Prince juggles facing away, rushes a spin-and-shoot way wide right.

90+2' (of +2') 0-2 Leupolz(?) overrun at circle top left, stays down. Islacker is up at 4R, waiting to sub in. Stoppage, trainers help Leupolz limp off.

90+3' (of +2') 0-2 Germany subs in (3 of 3) #15 Mandy Islacker for #16 Melanie Leupolz. Was originally planned for Popp, but Neid quickly switched it during the stoppage?

90+3' (of +3') 0-2 Canada fk at circle top left, long down box right, bounces over.

    FT 0-2.

Well, one HUGE thing in Germany's favor is that Sweden's players must be exhausted after 2 back-to-back 120' games.

Please... oh, well, I don't even know which kind of advice I am going to give to you for the final... well, let's try: just concentrate and repeat: "I won't root for anyone: each one of the two teams is equal to me. Let the best one win, whoever it is".

On second thought, I am a little scared about what could be the end-result of something like that... o_O

(I would think Germany would win, but who the hell knows in this Olympics....predictions have meant little in this tournament.)

Congrats to GER. Good luck in the gold medal game. My CDN girls had some good chances, but alas did not finish. It was good to see that both teams came to try to win vs. avoid losing. Should be a good bronze medal game. CDN has beaten BRA twice this year. A Marta-Sinclair match-up is always fun. Go CDN Go!

The wrong conclusion from those numbers is that possession loses you games.

In this tournament it doesn't though.

I think these number more reflect what happens when a team has a lead. they try and protect it and end up playing more defense.

Here's a thought: In the first Canada-Germany game, Canada appeared to intentionally bunker and won 2-0. In the second game, Canada appeared to be trying not to bunker and lost 2-0. If they had "Swedened" Germany in the second game, might they have won?

Totally agree. Why would they change a winning game plan?
