the world is catching you up, the epl are investing more and more money into their female teams. ncaa advantage you have will soon be minor
The NCAA has practically nothing to do with developing national caliber players. The US national program is very good at finding talent and nurturing them and the NWSL is quickly becoming or already is the most competitive women's league. Now the USSF are expanding to help direct clubs develop a big base of youth through the girls development academy league. I understand England is also investing a lot and in 2014 / 15 spent more money than any other national program in UEFA. Everything is going in the right direction
Not necessarily. European players go pro sooner and have a longer season vs the college season. The only difference is that the predominant women's sport in the US is soccer, so more quality players are vetted early on and there's a much larger player pool to choose from.
nope wrong american girls have had far better access to facilities, little leagues etc through their development then european girls, and the european girls have not had anything near the american womans league to go pro to until recently
It's a little more competitive, but the US still wins at the same rate as it always has. The American advantage has always been the fact that we are willing to invest heavily in women's athletics (by law). Other countries showing more emphasis in women's athletics will naturally create better competition, no matter the method.
Wow. Just wow. #USWNT's Hope Solo "we lost to a bunch of cowards. The better team did not win' #Rio2016— Kevin Baxter 🇺🇦🏳️🌈 (@kbaxter11) August 12, 2016
I think America haven't looked as dominant as a team since Wambach declined. They lack a focal point to work around offensively. They have quite alot of quick pacey options but lack guile. So it all becomes a bit ugly and aimless. I know they won the WC without much from Wambach but they are less consistent and easier to deal with on the whole imo.
It won't be as dominant if other countries actually start trying, but I've been hearing this line for over a decade now. Nine years ago, the US lost 4-0 to the Brazilians in the WC. It seems as if we're at the place we've been for a while now, maybe better.
When you're in a hole.... @WWC_Movement do you have a copy of this match? I couldn't watch OT and the PK shootout.
Brazil should not be as good as they only have a few pro teams, its europe thats rising the arms race has begun there soon your american stars will be offered better money to play for Man City then Portland.
You can find it here in a day or two (near the bottom): http://uswntvideos.tumblr.com/post/29202491129/uswnt-match-downloads-and-re-watch-links
Pia Sundhage's response to Hope Solo's cowards comment: I don't give a crap. I'm going to Rio, she's going home. (via @sportbladet). #USASWE— Linda Eriksson (@Linda__Eriksson) August 12, 2016
I think this tournament just became a lot more interesting with the USA's early departure. All 3 medals are up for grabs.
Holy Sour Grapes, Batman! Saw this quote on BBC Sports, had to go back to bigsoccer and gloat a bit. Sadly, I missed the game.
First let me say this....I have defended Solo for a very long time as for me she's simply the greatest female goalie ever, someone who has (and will) inspired thousands of girls, someone whose qualities (on the pitch not off...) should be THE set bar for every goalkeeper in the future but these words.........very very disappointing, sorry Hope but Sweden were lucky not cowards and at 35 yeards old that was probably your last big international tournament, it's really sad that a legend of our movement goes out like that but class has never been among Hope's qualities. Talking about the game, well it wasn't a good one, yes entertaining for the penaltys but apart from that two great teams in a very poor day not able to build proper actions specially Sweden....the difference once again was made by the poorest and luckiest coach that I've never seen in the game, men and women, sincerely I have lost words on how to describe Pia Sundaghe...I just can't believe how her old ass keep getting saved despite her teams being constantly poorly coached....it's a mystery. For the individuals I'd say great game from Morgan, that goal just waouw!....Seger, Heath, Sembrant and the new face Stina Blackstenius who despite having very rudimental technical abilities....I'll be gentle....showed that physically she's no match ever for Americans...
