I'd love to see him compete against stoke... will be a very good test of were he's at and if he impresses will bode well for him going into the season.

As it stands I get the feeling he won't start the season as a starter but I am hopefully he can take and make the position his own by mid season.

Argh. Just missed a good 1 on 1 in the game vs Cagliari.

Sounds about right. Squandering good opportunities/ lack of finishing was/still is one of the biggest complaints about Bobby.

Yep, he constantly gets in great spots, and is great until it's time for him to be clinical. Hopefully he continues to improve in that area of his game.

He better make up for it with a goal cause the top division is un friendly to those who miss shots that should be goals

Was this a complaint in Berlin?

Ha, maybe a bit in the early part of last season but it was mostly a complaint at 1860 Munich.

It was arguably a complaint in fall 14 to early 15 with the USMNT, but a little overblown. He didn't finish some chances but they weren't necessarily easy. I remember it taking him a while to start scoring last season with union, but don't recall what kind of chances he was getting.

It was your "still is" part that had me confused as I didn't think Berlin fans were doing much complaining.

Well, football master was frustrated earlier today.

Bobby has a long history of finishing trouble with club and country.

Watched a chunk of the first half. His activity was great. He was fighting like hell. But his ball control was rather erratic. I don't think these are ideal games for him because Hamburg is substantially out-playing their opposition, not allowing him the space he thrives on, and which he'll likely see more of in league. Also, it's preseason, and he started later than just about anyone else due to the injury. Could also still be nagging him. It didn't seem like a tragic performance or anything, but not one which helps his standing with the club.

It was a concern, until it really, really wasn't.
He had a couple botched chances, easier to score than miss, type situations. By Nov/Dec he was burying them.

Haven't done the math - but does he have a demonstrably worse goals per shot ratio than similar level strikers?

I know this was a "knock" on him fro 1860 but have the feeling it was perhaps overblown a tad by a certain "local" poster who pushed this narrative. But maybe the stats bear it out.

Just look at his goal tally from that period. That tells the story.

I haven't done the math either.

Just my observations from following his club and country career over the years.

Perhaps those stats exist somewhere.... I wasn't recording them.

    Good idea.
At 1860 he scored 3 goals (plus 6 assists) in 1,945 minutes - 1 goal for every 7.2 games
At Aue he scored 3 goals (plus 1 assist) in 796 minutes - 1 goal for every 2.6 games
At Union he scored 17 goals (plus 3 assists) in 2,595 minutes - 1 goal for every 1.7 games

The Aue numbers are quite respectable, but the Union goals per game ratio is seriously good. At 3.5 million Euros, he could well to be a bargain
