I grew up watching soccer on the old KMEX UHF channel in Southern California, and I have celebrated some Mexico wins at the Angel de la Independencia monument when I lived in Mexico City.
I think you'll find that USNT fans of a certain age have real affinity for El Tri, especially the version since about 2006 (Borgetti's goal against Italy? Come on!). We may root for the US first, but we don't root against Mexico and want to see the team succeed - most of the time!
In the face of Mexican fans & BSMX Moderators (and others) baiting me in the past with Squaw & Redskin and claiming they weren't slurs, and me having to actually explain that they were, the irony of this thread is sweet like a lemon blueberry bundt cake for my birthday. The question is, was that brownwashing or redwashing, or was it still whitewashing.
mr wamrth brought a great example of traditions and heritage there is a NFL washington redskins team that some ignorant people call offensive when in reality it is not how can you pick and choose like this? if you are going to censor what offends everyone, then do it completely or don't do it at all or find some middle ground. the word ******** is not a anti gay slur. it must not be censored. how can we find some common ground?
http://www.outsports.com/2015/7/13/...la-concacaf-gold-cuo-soccer-********-gay-slur replace the asterisks with the word post click.
waoh! this article completely absolves the correclation between the word ******** and gay slur. the mexican fan who seems to have a good pedigree makes the claim that the affected party is the group who decides what is offensive. I absolutey disagree with that notion. that leaves no room for middle ground and takes a black and white approach. in the article itself, he says mexicans by default are not homophobic as a society. therefore exactly there, he absolves all acts of the ******** chant of being a gay slur. us mexicans know that ******** has far wide meanings and in the context used in the soccer match, it is not used as a gay slur because mexians are not a homophobic society. the guy contradicted himself in his own statement.
This, to me, shifts this from ground where you may be sincere to one where you are trolling. And your request for common ground is actually a request for gay people to get over being offended, not for common ground.
disagree with your comment. I am not saying to get over being offended. common ground in my opinion is education about what the word really means instead of holding onto a belief that it is not entirely based on fact Flexibility unclench that fist and lets do a handshake
flexibility is the be open for compromise just as I am open to compromise. I know that I will have to concede certain items, and I am ready for it so we can somehow meet in the middle
oh and in regards to the accusations of trolling, I live in arizona, I live among many native navajos and other tribe members who say the whole redskins deal is stupid and not offensive. just a small minority who are not educated enough in the history of native americans who decided to make an opinion that is not based in reality. I am not trolling, but I am using the redskins example because it is the same exact situation certain people decided redskins was a native american slur certain people decided that the ******** chant was a gay slur. 2 different outcomes why? I can answer that question easily. education. people here in the states are more educated on the origins of the word redskins, but not educated enough as the ******** chant.
In reality it is. If you refer to an American Indian as a "redskin", me in particular, you will be seeking restorative dentistry. At this point, it's just a poor troll
That's you're anecdotal evidence at best, which flies in the face of the Dine Nation's official statements on the issue . D Level Trolling Same outcome, just not the one you want A for effort though
The compromise is that you are free to say it anywhere you want. And to type it on Facebook or Twitter or email or Word or wherever you want except here. Have at it to your hearts content.
And if you are just trying to support others by having the Washington football team name censored, then good on you!
to call me a troll is mere ad hominem. usually an indicator that you really don't have an answer to the fact that the word redskin is widely accepted in pur social construct and embedded in our society so deep that corporations invest money to protect the brand redskins. your extremist view is not the norm in american society and you resort to ad hominem to make up for it.
lol no man. I hope we can just be fair. help me educate others on the actual context that the chant is used for.
that is not meeting in the middle for bigsoccer or at least bsmx. that is taking the black and white approach
Exactly! That's how this is going to end with that articular word. BS stands with El Tri and FMF on this one.
Both are slurs because they only time they are used on BigSoccer is as slurs, since NFL talk is really not at all prevalent here. At this point, it shouldn't necessarily be censored since it is used in reference to the discussion of the usage, both in the historical usage of the term as it referred to Indians and the taking of their scalps as bounty and sports usage which is under growing pressure to drop the name of from the NFL team and each year, a few more of the die hard youth sports teams feel the pressure of the changing culture and drop that and other monikers such as Savages & Braves. The pressure and effort has come almost exclusively from Indian Country for decades, pressuring the culture to change and bringing more and more minds to our side. Just as the GLBTQ community has been pressing culture from their position on ******** and other gay slurs. Look I'm sorry your Tricolor privilege is slowly slipping though your fingers, but it's a new day. I can think of 11-12 slurs I could refer to you with, but that would just leave you with hurt feelings and me with a yellow card for stooping to your level
Compromise is not a requirement of BigSoccer BSMX isn't really a thing though, those forums are "owned" by BigSoccer, LLC. It's taking the "right" approach
No, 1) It's a fact & 2) from me, a term of respect and admiration, since I am the God-King of BigSoccer Trolls So were the words "Chinamen" & "Nigger" as well as a hundred other slurs that we don't use anymore. Culture Changes And they will lose, eventually I'm losing what little respect I had for your trolling
