Buying Higuain for 94 M would be the most Un-Wenger decision ever. Can't see this happening.
Now that Juve is flushed with Pogba money, Pipita is likely heading to Turin anyway.

Family, Özil and Sanchez are 27

    Kos is 30

    Cech is 33

    The time is right now.

Also, Napoli wanted the 94 million from Juve. They may negotiate with other clubs.

This. If you have to overpay for anyone, let it be the 23 year old (who's going to get better) for 40-50 rather than nearly 29 year old (who's probably already peaked) for 50-60.

Aside- just read that Sky are saying that only Atletico have bid for Higuain. I dare barely think it, but I wonder if Atletico are trying to get someone in there so Griezman (sp) can leave.

Higuain doesn't fit the profile of an Atleti signing, so I'd be surprised if that were true. So much BS flying around these days that I don't quite know what to believe.

I'm no expert on Icardi. Don't watch Serie A. Have only seen a few YouTube clips. Looks skillful and creative though. Some unexpected passes and touches in his arsenal. Given that he's only 23, it would probably make more sense to sign him than Higuain if our scouts decide that their impact in the short term will be similar.

My figure was including the loss of not making the group stage the following season. That is, the league will be more competitive next season--atleast the 3-4 slots I would imagine. So investing in a 100m star would be more a guarantee of getting atleast 4th so the difference between CL and Europa was in there too.

Man its so mad this game

Lyne killed it. That was the best breakdown I have seen tbh of reasons not to spend

I guess the club doesn't think pleasing the fans is worth it?

Liked your post. But on that last sentence it left me wondering are we really "top of class on shirt sponsorships"? Even if we're close, surely we're not top of class on shirt sales, right?

What made you think they cared about us. Look at their transfer policy.

I personally don't think it would cost us that much to win a domestic double for example. CL is a different beast. Every club has dead weight, but we are missing out on regular income by being soft on players. We are poorly managing our prospects, Chambers should have been the emergency CB last season so this season we could loan him out to a goodish team to get some week to week experience. Instead he'll get like 5 appearances in the league this season lose two seasons of development and then be derided as not good enough.

Second we don't need a Higuain, we need a striker who can do a few very specific things. Wenger's inability to make use of specialists is killing our ability to make shrewed purchases. Not everyone on the field needs to be a football savant, a player who knows where to be and when to be there is in our case going to be more useful and cheaper than getting that world beater. Instead we are picking up players who are great except for this very specific and noticeable weakness for slightly less than market value. Its times like this that I wish Wenger had more experience with limited players. Who is the most limited player he's had to work with as a starter? How hard can it be to find a striker who only wants to make 10 yard runs between the CBs, and wants to the ball over his shoulder or on the ground?

I've tried to remain optimistic. But the Pogba to United non sense is deflating as an Arsenal fan and as a soccer fan.

With Manutd apparently agreeing terms with Juventus for Pogba, what are the chances that they come around asking for Sanchez now that they have a lot more money to spend?

I promise you Kroenke is looking at everything through greenback tinted lenses. He'd like to win trophies but never at the expense of business and the bottom line. That's just the American Sports Industrial Complex mentality applied, and he's an especially cheap version of it. The only way to change his mind is walk out. Seriously.

Doubt it. We don't need to sell, we'd need to buy a replacement, and the typically don't make huge acquisitions. They're much more likely to buy 2-3 players and sit on the remaining cash.

If Sanchez is not willing to commit to a new contract this summer, we should sell. Chances are we end up selling him to a league rival next summer to recoup something and avoid him leaving on a free. I know we are all focused on new players arriving, but we have a pretty big shadow hanging overhead with the Ozil and Sanchez contracts.

The last I read, they were both likely to extend. iirc, Arseblog mentioned that as well in his podcast this week.

Only "madness" type CF signings I can think of are Griezmann, Lewa, and Auba. I can't think of anyone else who would fit as OMG, and I can't see any of those players moving.

I know some would disagree, but I'd still include Cavani in this

I agree although I still think Griezmann & Atletico could be tempted. The other two are off limits.

The only person I can see here is Griezman. It's hopefuly because he is french and Atletico seem to be interested in getting another striker. However, Atletico have a better team than us so it doesn't make much sense.
