Would the SOB leaders in the past have sold themselves out to shill for corporate money? Would they have pandered themselves and marketed the SOB logo to promote the Union and Mitchell and Ness? I purchased a scarf, but I felt really slimy doing it. The tifo was really over the top. What thinks everyone else? @Dills? Is the SOB just a marketing arm for the Union? I realize that everything changes over time, but I really miss the old days and the old leadership.
wish I could rep that more than once would fans load up in a bus and drive to DC to troll New England while wearing their "fresh" Mitchell and Ness gear? I made the comment on twitter that it seems the current leaders have sold the group's soul for a quick buck. wonder how many bucks they got from this... guess I'll wait to see the financials when the SOBs release them to their dues paying members not to mention that most of the stuff is garbage (snake hat excluded). the half sob logo/ half union logo crap looks like stuff my kids made in preschool when their teachers gave them scissors, glue and some magazines. but the sheep were lining up to buy it up. baaaaaaaaa
I didn't renew my membership this year because I have no faith that the money isn't being pilfered. I'm sure the SoB leadership is getting enough of a cut from the Mitchell & Ness stuff to make up for my paltry membership fee.
the lack of creativity is what offended me. seems like it took all of 5 minutes to create the whole line. i swore people would see right through that and wouldn't buy anything.
Well considering the new president previously worked in the Union FO....... Honestly I don't care much one way or the other, getting upset over "selling out" seems silly to me ...although I do wonder a bit where the money goes, it's not like our Tifo is anything special when compared to the other teams, and the sob experience does feel a bit stale/mailed in. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that any extra revenue gets reinvested for a better experience.
The seating angle of TRE will always be an issue with overhead tifo until that second level expansion is completed. Took me a minute to realize what the red squiggly line was on the center portion.
Nope, I'm in 135 so I never know what the hell is above me or the other sections in TRE. Maybe M&N can pay to put some flagpoles up or something so we can really show the league how much we love them (and I can actually see the banners too!)
Seriously? The Tifo director helped design the swag, that's why the Tifo was what it was. Also, that design is from a Tifo display the SOB's did a few seasons ago. From what I understand, proceeds from sales of the Mitchell & Ness line are going to charity. ALL supporters groups are de-facto marketing arms for MLS.............. It's not like MLS shows families of 4 in their advertisements for National TV games now............just looks at the ads on ESPN and Fox Sports, and the MLS website......... I do see your point about a supporters group w/o a team going to random MLS matches @aztec21bas . I believe the SOB's are still the only group to do that. The Union are quite possibly the only MLS team that has an "organic," "grassroots" beginning. That's something the founders of the group, and it's early members should always be proud of.
There are a segment of Union fans looking for any and every chance to trash SoB elders whether it's justified or not.
There's also a group of SoB elders that wouldn't do a deal with beer or apparel. Somehow the beer didn't feel offensive but the apparel and co-branded tifo was very far removed.
As far as the beer, us at neshaminy creek and yards just give free beer for the tailgates, so that the tailgate can actually happen. I drive it in my car to chester on game weeks, the come back to pick up the keg system, clean, repeat. We do this because we want to contribute, and are actually season ticket holders/ supporters. They make the sob beer for free. I think people are overestimating the amount of money made by the sob/other orgs for these type of "deals"
I meant the co-branded beer - Sons of Ben Rowdy Ale, not beer deals in general which are mutually beneficial in building brand recognition and loyalty while filling eager palates with great beer. #JAWN
