I like the point. If the Italian team won like this we would be talking about their defensive prowess

    Congrats to the Portuguese supporters!
It's nice to see a new winner.

Last I saw on BBC, it was lit up in French colours.

Portugal won without Ronaldo. How is that possible if this is a one man team?

I agree, congrats to Portugal, they didn't play a very entertaining tournament but were unbeaten and kicked out Croatia and France. The country has been to semifinals of a big tourney 7 times so I think they deserved to win one after all. Especially after Ronaldo was injured today the achievement is even bigger.

Happily, I didn't bet my arse on France winning. They'll have to take comfort in beating Germany.
Congrats to Portugal who answered the question with CR who?

The team is better without the individual star. Like France without Eric cantona, Portugal was better without Ronaldo

France vanished in additional time. Since the beginning, I have knew that Portugal is a great team. You can read my positive thoughts about their style. But people observed them through matches against Hungary, Iceland and Austria - bunker teams.

Rui Patricio, Fonte, Guerreiro, Pepe, Joao Mario, William Carvalho, Adrien Silva, Sanches, Ronaldo, Nani, Quaresma were all great.

Maybe they are members of what we call "The Golden Generation", but for sure they have returned something which was lost at EURO 2004, World Cups 2002, 2006...still, they could become "The Golden Generation" in Russia, two years older and even better. Imagine

France has great individuals, excellent athletic players in midfield. They have also vanished against Germany and the same thing happened today. Portugal had one day less for their recovery with a lot additional time matches, penalties. Deserved title after all. They had seven semi finals on two major competitions. We could see imagination, tactical mature approach and perfect coaching predictions. Portugal was never outplayed. Parabens a todos.:)

Portugal entertained us for decades. South Korea entertained us at World Cup 2002?? With what?o_O

Congrats to Portugal (and CR7) - after getting close so many times, it's good to see them win.

But frankly, this was a pretty forgettable tournament. Low-scoring, and very few memorable games. I think a lot of that is due to the tournament format, which, unfortunately, we're stuck with (no going back to 16).

To be fair to him, I think he meant how they played, in response to the comment about how Greece played in 2004.

when ballack continued on he had this distinct look on his face that said "wtf"

Not sure what you think he meant, that this is just a regional title (Euro) and not a World title ( World Cup and Confederations Cup)? He won all three titles as a player, by the way, so he can be pretty content.

Pepe was my man of the match. Finals are rarely beautiful and this followed suit but it sure was tense.

I just want to give props to the country of France for the show they put on. Once we got the English and Russians away from each other things went pretty smooth. Not many better countries in the World to have host a major event.

    Thank you

    Wow!

    1. Congratulations Portugal
    2. Nice we have a new champion that has not won it before, this is great!
    3. Probably not the best Portugal team I have seen, but Portugal has put up a contender at euros the last 5 tournaments - very consistent - I don't think there is a more deserving country and/or program that has not won it before.

    Congrats again, party safe :)

France, what can you say. It was theirs to lose, and they lost it. Decent tournament overall, UEFA made a shit load of money...so you know we are closer to 32 teams than 16.

Memorable games (mostly underdogs coming up big):

    Belgium Italy

    Croatia Spain

Italy Ireland (granted it was Italy's b team... I'm all about fan enjoyment)

    Wales Belgium qf
    Spain Italy r16

Portugal Hungary ... That was the best. Ronaldo going nuts after the 3rd Hungary goal was the best part of the tournament

    Iceland Austria
Iceland England r16 ... Oh my

    Germany Italy qf
Germany France semi ... Weird 2nd half collapse

    Portugal France final overtime only
