Here are some records from this game!!!

    3-0 - #GER have equalled their highest win at European Championship Finals (1972 3-0 v USSR, 1996 3-0 v Russia, 2016 3-0 v Slovakia). Word.

    OptaFranz ‏@OptaFranz 6h6 hours ago
5 - #GER have kept a clean sheet in their last 5 matches. Only in 1966 they had a better run (6 clean sheets in a row). Fortress.

    OptaJohan ‏@OptaJohan 7h7 hours ago
5 - Mario Gomez is now Germany's joint-top goalscorer at the European Championship (5 goals), with Jürgen Klinsmann. Super.

    OptaFranz ‏@OptaFranz 7h7 hours ago
1 - Incl. shootouts @MesutOzil1088 is the first German Player to miss a penalty at the EURO since Uli Hoeneß in the 1976 final. Ages.

    OptaJohan ‏@OptaJohan 7h7 hours ago
8 - Jérôme Boateng's goal after 8 minutes is the fastest Germany goal ever at the European Championship. Rocket.

I would suggest a straight jacket for his future attire.

Back to the match, the offense looked great with Gomez leading the line. Gomez's presence creates so much space for players to run into. It's like night and day from the matches where he didn't start. Draxler was great pairing with him but Mueller and Ozil were pretty anonymous. I would've subbed in Goetze for Ozil at the half. Don't quite understand the Poldi sub but it didn't really matter anyway. Kroos needs to tidy up his shots though. Defending was great once again but more so Neuer.

Why is Ozil taking PKs? Gomez or Mueller should be the main guys.

I'm pretty pleased with the match Die Mannschaft played today. Controlled the match, crisp passing, and decently clinical goalscoring. Good to see both Gomez and Draxler have pretty great games; Oezil was somewhat disappointing, but he shouldn't be taking penalties anyways, not sure what Loew's thought process was there. But our next game, whether it be Italy or Spain, will be exponentially more difficult. Still it is nice to have a bit of momentum going into that matchup.

Yeah, that was awful. Why is that a foul, nevermind a yellow? A poor decision, no doubt.

Yeah..."die Mannschaft" is pure marketing gimmick.

No one should be calling them that.

If people want to call them something German, call them the Nationalelf if you have to.

But really just call them Germany/Deutschland.

Opinion seems to be split then.

    Die Nationalmannschaft? Ok

    Die Mannschaft? Umm weird

Reminds me of when a newbie Bayern fan saw me in a bar with my Bayern jersey and greeted me with "Mia San Mia!" I was like "uhhh no, that's not something you say."

During tournaments nobody in Germany talks about the Nationalmannschaft.. It's just Mannschaft ("und, hast du vorhin auch das Spiel der Mannschaft gegen Slovakei gesehen?" or "unsere Mannschaft hat super gespielt!"). After the tourney ends it's again Nationalmannschaft or Nationalelf because there are a lot of Mannschaften out there. But come on, it's used for ages and that won't change just because Bierhoff made a slogan out of it.

I think the fact that your fellow countryman in the post before yours basically said "no one in Germany says that" confirms my suspicion that opinion is evenly split on this subject

No, I think dage didnt say in his example that mannschaft is applicable to every team and since German is a very precise language that doesnt like double meanings it is wrong. If I had watched the copa final yesterday I had refered to Argentina with mannschaft as well cause that is what they are: a team. How can it be our nickname then? Before die Mannschaft, I think people would even rather use the term Jogi's Jungs. And that is basically a term that was made up by the media.

Nationalmannschaft or Deutschland if you're a fan. The other terms are an outsiders view towards Germany

So Schweinie says he is ready ... wonder if Loew would change anything against Spain or Italy... now the tournament is getting serious....
If he really wants to change anything he should play :
    Kimmich---Hummels---Boa--Hector
    -------------------Schweinie----------------
    ---------Khedira---------------Kroos--------
    Oezil------------------MUller-----------Draxler

Bring schwenie for Gomez.... Controlling the midfield better, as that is where the main battle will be, if Italy or Spain....

If it is Italy the probability that Löw switches to 3-5-2 is 100%. If Spain, it is 60%.
