Rizzoli with a very nice first half.
    Good man management.
Happy to see him calling lots of grabbing, pulling etc.

    Easy penalty call.
Glad he had the confidence to call it.

    Well done

How did Rizzoli and crew miss that? ~58' gave France a goal kick - clearly a corner kick.

There is your straight red. Good call - just outside of PA.

Impressive dogso call in 66'. At first I thought he poked the ball away but replay showed he didn't.

The Swedish commentators are giving a lot of praise to the crew for their teamwork, the Coleman caution was one they liked in particular.

I get why you don't want to do the 2nd caution sending off to the team that are already down one man and behind in the game when the game is almost over but that tackle on Coman really deserved a caution. Possibly saved by the fact that he got the ball but he came in awfully fast and made a lot of contact.

    I agree.
I also understand why it wasn't given.

I think in the grand scheme of things Rizzoli hurt himself today. He managed the game okay. And the red/DFK was great teamwork.

But that missed corner was really bad and solely due to lack of concentration. And the missed 2CT didn't even have a foul. And early on, other than the penalty, he seemed shaky for him. The management of the Irish injury, after failing to call the foul, was Grade 7 level stuff.

He can still get the final. I thought he was the best in that group stage. But he wasn't world class today. If Italy keeps winning, he's toast. Even if they don't, Clattenburg has to have the edge now and guys like Eriksson and Kuipers have a chance next round to win the match away.

But you can't put the missed CK solely on Rizzoli. He has two officials there to help him. The rebound off of the defender was very noticeable. At least one of them should have seen it and said "Hey, Riz, missed something there. Corner kick."

And just now the same thing happens in the Germany - Slovakia match! Two clear CK have become GK on the same day.

No, you can't. And you're exactly right.

But despite us focusing on the referees, these assignments are made on the team concept. This miss will hurt. Of course, the same AAR made the penalty call for Portugal. But take a crew like Brych's or Kassai's, who have got big decisions right due to teamwork without misses. I still think it's why Rizzoli gets hurt today. We are at the point where Clattenburg is the only ref who is flawless, with Eriksson and maybe Brych close behind.

Has anyone gotten both the WC and EURO finals before? It certainly hasn't happened for a while, even for the likes of Collina and Webb.
