Ahm not really man
The U17 world cup 2017 which we are hosting is getting good publicity
It's already big and i expect it to serve the purpose
Our PM seems excited about this event, he keeps talking about this on his podcast which is nice
AIFF are planning to do some activities with the support of government like mission 11 million ,to give primary football education to 11 millionkids in rural India and Overseas scouting project in which they search for the u17 players with Indian passport to play in the U17 world cup ,which will gradually be expanded to different age groups

So Salgoacar and Sporting Clube de Goa have withdrawn from the I.League. They're simply disillusioned with the AIFF. They don't see any point. The new structure on paper offers them nothing.

This is the point. The new structure being mentioned is for the rich., The poor can go into the 2nd and 3rd tier but never achieve promotion to the elite, so what is the point in competitive sport when on the field doesn't even matter.

While it's extremely disappointing to see them withdraw from I-League,there's more to this
It's wrong to say that League One offers them nothing , it does and even more than I-league
It's also pretty surprising to see them folding so soon when they face insecurity for the first time
MB,EB ,ex-players and experts are panning SCG and SFC for their awkward decision
and there's more to it than just sporting reasons
Dempo and SFC are financially getting weaker from mining ban in goa , which provides finances for their respective clubs
Dempo are owned by Shrinivas Dempo who is also the co owner of FC Goa, so it's simple ,he can't own two clubs
SCG ran on real estate money , Models Pvt Ltd ,their parent company are going through a crisis due to price stagnation in Goa
I think aboth SCG and SFC will return for League One , it's just that they don't see a point in spending crores on first team to play in the I-League
This is the point. The new structure being mentioned is for the rich., The poor can go into the 2nd and 3rd tier but never achieve promotion to the elite, so what is the point in competitive sport when on the field doesn't even matter.
How do you explain that with respect to the succesful A-League ? or MLS ?Atleast the game is being spread to different cities which will help spread the popularity and it's high time finance is seen as a criteria

It depends how you determine successful.

A-League there isn't any feeder league at all and over half the clubs qualify for the playoffs which kind of makes a 27 stage season pointless. There's also 3 clubs gone to the wall in it's short existent.

MLS - 20 years in, still no promotion/relegation. Look at every decent league around, it has this basic point. MLS are still trying to grow the league, this is 20 years on, India won't wait that long.

I've not a problem with ISL being spread across the country, but what the AIFF is doing is killing off core clubs that have been around long before ISL. The I.League has always been neglected. The AIFF have never had a n interest in the league, they've never promoted the league. It's ok, saying the I.League clubs have no finance, but the AIFF never got decent TV deals for example. They even pulled The Arrows team they formed as they got bored.

So AIFF are moving into an new era, but did they really have to kill off everything from the old era? No, they didn't. But they chose to. They never supported I.League

See these ISL clubs have got a clause in their contract which gives them an exemption from relegation for 10 years
AIFF and IMG-R gladly accepted it because they never thought the merger was gonna happen so soon due to immense pressure from FIFA and AFC
That's why the Rel/Pro was neglected in the roadmap
Almost all other clubs have accepted the proposal except Salgaocar FC and Sporting Clube De Goa
Like i told you there's more to it in their awkward decision
I'm pretty sure they will introduce pro/rel after 7 seasons which will also give time to clubs like Shillong Lajong,Minerva AFC,and Aizawl FC to invest in infrastructure and other clubs like SCG and Salgaocar to build a solid fan base
Have to look at the bigger picture than going short term here
Take a look at J-League, another successful football league in asia
They didn't have pro/rel till their 7th season
And yes AIFF deserves a lot of blame for treating I-League the way they did, And should've been more professional
And we did had a good TV deal with Zee sports , but they backed out because they didn't believe I-league can be successful
Arrows went through financially terrible times and finally had to shut shop due to financial crunch and also due to the fact that they couldn't fulfill AFC licensing criterias

Why do you think clubs like Shillong and Aizawl and the like will invest in infrastructure if they have nothing to aim for for 7 years!! They won't get a fan base because everyone wants to watch the ISL teams. In Kolkata, you think they want to watch Mohun Bagan or Atheltico de Kolkata?

The bigger picture is the fact that AIFF have gone on the short term here, they never had a roadmap for I.League.

Introducing pro/rel after 7 seasons?? You kidding me??? There's pro/rel already and they are getting rid of it, the AFC don't even accept this.

The ISL have different players and managers every year, it's a short circus league, you think it will suddenly grow? You can't compare to Japan, they formed in 1993 with 10 clubs, how many they have in 1994? 12, promoted teams. How many in 1995? 14, again promoted teams. It took 6 years to start having teams be relegated....10 for India!

Aizawl and Shillong have a strong fan base and even when they were playing in 2nd division or state league they had 5k-10k regular attendance. The philosophy of these two clubs were to give chances to local talent and promote them.
Aizawl don't have a proper stadium or a training facility ,AIFF Licensing team gave them a one year exception last time as they failed in both infrastructural and financial criteria.Shillong's stadium is comparatively better but still lacks basic facilities, they also failed to fulfill infrastructural criteria.Rather than spending 2-4 Cr per year on first team with little or no return ,it would acually help the local and youth players to have a proper training facility and a proper stadium than playing in the top tier for the sake of it, Plus presence in League One means their players always gets a good platform to perform .ATK will merge with any of both kolkata clubs like i told earlier.
Disagree with you on this , no they have not gone short term,This move will also help the clubs by forming a financially sustainable structure
Not every country can have the perfect league, every country has to evaluate and form a structure which suits them most and this one is THE one for us ,In India only a handful of clubs have got the infrastructure for a pro club
these 7 years will provide the clubs with ample time to invest in the infrastrcuture and form a fan following
Just to be clear All the ISL clubs are busy building their own Infra and academy to abide AFC's licensing criteria
because they have the money ,others don't ,so they need time.
If AFC agreed to a parallel top tier that runs for 2-3 months then, do you think it would be difficult to get AFC's nod
now ??!!
If the league becomes longer for 8-9 or 10 months inclding pre season why wouldn't they sign managers and players for long time ? And yes i believe it will grow and so does others. For anything new ,there will be critics and it's the same for this roadmap too
There's a reason why i compared it to J-league
http://indianexpress.com/article/sp...ry-to-make-clubs-commercially-viable-2881139/
The plan is to have 14-16 teams in top tier at the end of 7th year by open bidding process before making the league open by introducing Pro/Rel

AFC never saw the ISL as the official top tier, they didn't allow clubs to enter the ACL. The AFC never had to use there criteria to evaluate them, they will if this goes ahead. Of course India will get allocated slots for ACL, but they won't get as many as they want because of pro/rel not being on the agenda.

It is though , Agree with you on AFC CL part
I actually won't mind us playing in AFC Cup although marketing wise ACL would be huge
Indian clubs have made it to the semi finals before and winning the AFC Cup would be awesome

A 7-1 win on aggregate over Southeast Asian nation Laos in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying playoff has triggered India to propel eleven places higher to be ranked 152nd among 209 member nations of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
