Klinsmann will get criticized for this performance, but I like what he has done for this team. He's found some young talent in places that we didn't know had US-eligible players (y'all could argue that he should be scouting, not coaching).

We need to continue scouting for US talent, and adding depth. Jurgen can do that for us. In the meantime, we'll continue to see the "talent gap"

    "In Jurgen I trust"
    "Jurgen's brigade"
    "Forever USA"
And all other cliches that the Dynamo sunshine brigade uses!

Yes, and we can work on the "pretty" or "creative" decades down the line. In the next 10 years I'd like to see comfort on the ball with defenders approaching and accurate passing. I saw total hot potato, hasty, don't pass it to me behavior.

JK is controversial, but he's not part of the main problems that we face. I just hope he isn't replaced for some Gulati-Garber lackey

Yup. We need nerve, first touch, and ruthlessness.

    Would you replace him?

I'd give him more continuity with the team. It's not his fault it's hard to find US talent.

<edit: I'll give you the Wondo thing. He should not have started Wondo>

Yea, sometimes you lose to teams who are flat out better than you are.

That was a Madden-esque comment and most likely intended. But you are right. Simple truth: Argentina's better.

I just like to talk about why. :)

I wish. Wait, no I don't. I'd much rather be in Houston than Blackburn.

I hope JK uses the next game to get some experience for the younger guys. Jones, Dempsey, and Bradley are getting old and the WC is in 2 years.

Ehh - he talks a bigger game than he's ever produced. He's also the kind of coach who could fail to qualify a US team for the World Cup - probably higher ceiling than most coaches but lower floor (not qualifying)

There's a way to state their reverence for Messi's talent but still pull for the US team in 140 characters. If they all are so smart, they can figure it out.

One thing that struck me when I saw the selfies of the Dash players on Twitter, is that even the players from Europe, and Australia were wearing USA shirts to the game.

I'm calling bullshit on this. Sour grapes, just looking for something to complain about.

Are you referencing Carli Lloyd saying Messi is the best player in the world? Is she wrong? Is that professing love or simply stating fact?

Or, are you referencing Morgan Brian calling the free kick goal incredible? Who among us did not have the same reaction? Was that before or after she walked to the stadium with American Outlaws?

To answer your question, they'd love to see the men tweeting similarly, as would I. It would mean they are actually watching and appreciating the talent they see around the world.

C'mon, this is stupid. Morgan Brian flipping walked to the ground with American Outlaws carrying a USA scarf. Please explain how awful her one tweet on the match was: "That free kick just defied human logic."

If you're referencing other tweets by other players that were retweeted. All but one was from players who are not American. One of those players (Ireland's Denise O'Sullivan) went to Soccer4All, bought a USA shirt and wore it to the game.

    Dmaniac,

You appear to be a smart person, at least based on the usual coherence and thought process of your posts. I really don't understand why you fall for Wside's provocations.

I realize that you think that truth is on your side so you are going to prove him wrong (or at least "set the record straight"), but I hope you know he is just doing this to see if anybody responds.

Westside is a master puppetteer, I am always surprised how many people fall for his incendiary comments simply intended to get people to engage him.

Every time you respond, he's already won the battle.

My brain cannot comprehend the people who are saying, "Argentina is #1 in the world, what do you expect?" I harbored no illusions that the USA would win. That doesn't excuse a godawful performance though.

The team selection was poor (Wondo & Beckerman? WTF? Both of them were awful on the night.)

The passing was awful - the first time the US managed to string together more than 3 consecutive passes was the sequence immediately following the second goal.

The defending left a lot to be desired - at least Beckerman was in the same zip code as Lavezzi on the 1st goal. Wondo loses the ball then commits a stupid foul to giveaway the free kick. Brooks made mistakes, Birnbaum committed a howler.

The gameplan was poor. Only way a team like the US stands a chance against a team like that is condense space, defend in numbers and look to hit on the counter (and it helps if your keeper stands on his head which Guzan definitely did not). Instead, we come out with, I don't know what that was. A partial high press. Some players pressed, others didn't and Argentina cut it apart.

4-0 was a fortunate scoreline for the US in that game. They were so poor that Argentina went at halfspeed most of the game and still kept the US from getting a single shot off.

Have to play much more intelligently, starting from the coach on down. Instead, they were dumb and bad.

The USA has a lot of work to do to catch up with the rest of the world. Or at least with the top countries in the world, like Argentina.

That doesn't excuse the poor performance. In my opinion, players got scared and got stunned by the early goal. They couldnt shake it off of their heads. And their performance sufered greatly. For example, Bradley and Guzan, two players i usually like, werent themselves last night. Almost everybody else also played poorly.

But i would like to see continuity, id like to have the same coach continue for several years. Otherwise, wed start from scratch with somebody elses vision. So i hope Klinsmann continues as coach.

I don't follow the players on Twitter, it was all on the Dash feed. The Dash and Dynamo Twitter accounts seemed real excited yesterday to focus on Argentina and Messi. Maybe Dynamo fans should focus on what the Galaxy and Sounders players do against us an tweet about that

Bradley is a shadow of the player he used to be. I'm worried about the goalkeeping spot. That's long been the strength of this team and there has always been an obvious heir apparent. Right now, I have no clue who would take over for Guzan.

I think if you look at national team history, the track record for coaches on the second cycle is pretty poor. Generally, you are best off going one cycle with a coach. Three cycles is almost unheard of. If US Soccer really thinks Klinsmann is doing great things for the program (I'm not sold that he is), then a better route would be to relieve him of coaching duties but keep him in the technical director/youth development role, which, let's face it, is a full-time job (and then some) by itself. I didn't want him as manager for a second cycle, I definitely don't want him for a third.

Apples and oranges on many levels.

It's a different fanbase. Do you see the Dynamo account retweeting a bunch of comments by Dynamo players? No. Women's soccer fans are different. They are more interested in what players are doing when they aren't playing (hence the much greater use of Snapchat, Instagram, etc., etc.). The WoSo fanbase wants to see pics of the players at the game or what they are saying on Twitter, that they are at the game, that they are watching, etc.
