I don't like this inexperienced youth nonsense, if they deserve to be called up then they have some experience, just not with the national team. I'd rather have inexperienced, enthusiastic, hungry talanted youth than experienced guys who will disappoint as they always do.

Look, Ventura is a good coach. It's not like he has had massive talent to work with in his career. His job is to rebuild. That's what he usually does best.

I will say this...he does not let youth rot on the bench. He gives them a shot. They may fail at times, but at least he gives them a chance. That puts him ahead of 97% of Italian managers.

That's the one thing I'm looking forward to with him. A lot of our current players are going to be a lot older in the next 2-4 years so it would be nice to see some young guys get a shot. We also have some incompetent players where it would make more sense to gamble on promising youngsters. As per being successful in a tournament and the tactics he will - that remains to be seen.

Before, people were saying that Prandelli was good at bringing through young players too.

Its also a case of Ventura not having the funds to splurge of big clubs and so being to some extent forced to bring through youth.

Prandelli was a great coach at first but then he started bringing players in like Gilardino, Aquilani, Immobile and giving them substantial playing time. His tactics were also terrible.

It wouldn't be the first time we see a coach go 180 and full potato once becom il CT, as I said his job was play young players so the club could sell them on for a tidy profit. I will give him 2 call ups before I judge him, but right now im not convinced that he has done anything worthy to show he's Italy material. Its just crazy to me that instead of youth we keep going with old guys like Tavecchio and Now Ventura. We need new ideas.

Agree, he went full potad after 2012, well during really. I really dont think his selective ethics code helped Italy, just as I think contes hypocrisy will bite him in the arse too

After 2012, Prandelli seemed like he came into conflict with the senior/Juve block. He never liked the 5 man defense but Juve wanted it. Then he would call players like Cassanno against the wishes of the senior players.

His fav formation was the 4-3-1-2 and he wanted to play football. I wish we had stuck to that philosophy, but we'll see how Conte goes.

Ventura has overachieved wherever he's gone. He's a good judge of talent who has given opportunities to young players.

    Lmao.

Im really not convinced on ventura. Hope he does well, but I can never agree he has over achieved in regards to Torino. No evidence at present that his youth policy will transfer over to Italy especially as its not him that scouts the talent, Zappacosta for example was bought to replace Darmian and increase his value, same as Belotti and Benassi. Not much of that is down to him but what is forced upon him. I hope he plans to build a team based on youth and talent that will be together for the next 6+ years. We shall see. The most important thing is fhat he isnt like arrogant cunte who believes his system is above everything. Managers like that are football cancer. Football should be about the players not your shitty stifling system.

You bring up interesting points of doubt over Ventura and whether he will go young or not. It's true, that at a smaller club he's forced to implement youth (primarily Italian), and that there is no evidence that he will continue that on the national team. My sense of optimism (and others) with Ventura's appointment is due to the fact that Italy has almost no choice but to start playing most of these 20-24 year olds due to the lack of good players in the 25-30 range. In two years, those latter players will be even older and worse. It seems that the federation has picked up on that and chosen Ventura primarily for that reason. I could be wrong of course, but that is the overriding vibe I get with his selection as coach. We need a guy that can mesh all these promising players into a cohesive unit. I think it might finally be a step in the right direction.

What is ridiculous is thinking that Ventura is going to be some sort of champion of youth and that he has over achieved in his career. Couldn't be further from the truth. He is another stubborn ass of a coach and will be a failure as C.T

I just hope he uses it. We could have a very good team in the next 2-3 years if the youth is properly utilized.

Torino as a general rule traditionally and historically always seemed to have a great vivaio for youngsters. Whether he incorporates that mentality into a national team that meets 5/6 games with different lineups a year is another story. I personally don't see what or how anything can really change if things stay the way they are. Bottom line is Italy needs more Italian youngsters starting for the top club teams in the Serie A as opposed to mid level clubs. It's worked the same way for 70-80 years and if it could be done for all those years, I see no reason why it can't work again. They just need more opportunities to shine.

The same players will all still be there. Do you think Ventura is going to tell Buffon, Barzagli, Chiellini etc no thanks we dont need you anymore? The sponsorship of certain player will dictate that they be called up. The same faces sell the shirts on all the advertisements in Italia and will continue to do so. I hope im wrong and he begins a total rebuild of the squad but that wont happen, not with Spain in the world cup qualifying group and only the top team automatically goes through.

I'm he will use some veterans but by the next WC Buffon will be 40 Barzagli 37 & Chiellini 34. That is a lot of mileage on defense. He may use them for the qualifiers but I don't see how they can all play in two years time.

Buffon and Chiellini are not the problem when it comes to the older players on the squad.

Barzagli has already stated that he's retiring after the Euro's. I see no problem with keeping both Chiellini and Bonucci, but adding Rugani and Romagnoli. I also have no problem with Buffon if both Perin and Donnarumma get selected with him.

Its when I see players like Ogbonna and Sirigu get picked over more promising players, that I laugh.

One thing that worries me, was Ventura the only candidate? Not talking about rumoured but an actual candidate. If not why not, if there wasn't how could they have come to the conclusion that he was the best man for the job? Also will he be pressured to call up certain players? Dont care what anyone says, there are players in this squad called up for reasons other than what they have shown on the field. Claudio Gentile has also said this is why he no longer is considered for jobs, he refused to call up players he was ordered to call up from certain clubs. If this is the case then Ventura has his job cut out before he even starts.

I thought I read Guidolin was also considered for the job but don't know how close they were to hiring him.

This thread highlights the theme fans have with coaches. Unless they win, they do no right. Questioning a coaches selection before he's even started, though, only Italians :D
