Chicharito nets his 45th goal for Mexico to move one shy of the all-time record. #CopaAmerica #MEXvJAM #MyCopaColors https://t.co/PplhWXgdYM— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 10, 2016
This is true ... That Donaldson was the worst striker performance I've seen ... well, actually just since Cavani ... but still.
Lololol There were some horrid strikers today with no touch. Reminded me of Jozy Altidore. Hope he never puts the stars and stripes on again. US has much better young talent that needs to be given the opportunities. I, for one, would like to see more of Jordan Morris up top.
Cavani blew one opp and was mugged on another. Donaldson missed the net twice with plenty of time and space, hit a Mexican defender with his shot when he had the whole net to shoot at and was unable to dribble the ball on a clear breakaway so he had to embellish the contact he got from Mexico in an attempt to earn a PK.
I think we saw last night part of the reason why I don't think Mexico is going to win this Cup. As much as I like Osorio he seems to tinker with things and outsmart himself in certain situations. There will probably an opposing Manager that will take advantage of this. One with a lot more talent than jamaica obviously.
Jamaica bunked the entire first half even while they were a goal down. Let's face it though. Jamaica has improved a hell of a lot in the last few years. They have good, quality players today. Mexico's defense had a tough day but a lot had to do with Moreno playing out of position and Rafa Marquez not being able to handle the athleticism of the Jamaicans ESPECIALLY since he was playing as a CDM. Those are some of the lessons learned. Mexico made necessary adjustments and looked better in the second half, although Jamaica still created opportunities to tie the game. Donaldson looked for penalty calls instead of showing a striker's instinct in front the goal.
Jamaica is one of the few bad matchups for Mexico. Osorio made some questionable changes but he had to try to counter Jamaica's size and superior athleticism. He had to play an extra defender effectively who is not the best in the back line. His hand was also forced by Guardado who was suspended and who normally does a superb job of winning balls and maintaining possession in the midfield. He is only one guy, but if you have 3 capable mids to control the midfield, it makes for a much easier time for the defense and GK. Despite this, Mexico still won by 2 although the scoreboard is a little misleading. I think Jamaica has some quality players. Just need a capable striker.
It was a typical concacaf match against Mexico. Jamaica sat back, and Mexico got lackadaisical with a goal lead. When teams go at Mexico like Uruguay did (although you could say they played too cautious a man up in that match), then you see the possession and build up click (like when the game finally equalized). But, there's still a ways to go...we'll see
It may take a team in the Final. Either Argentina or Colombia. But I have seen Osorio over the last decade just stick to his notes and not go with his gut. But a long way to go as you say.
