Another thing that we have to keep in mind about that Chile-Bolivia match is that it will be on free tv on your Local Fox affiliate and your local Unimas affiliate. People in the area are probably just saying they will watch it at home and spend their money on the Brazil match and/or the Quarter-Final match that on paper could be Argentina/Chiles vs. Mexico/Uruguay.

Yeah, good point that doesn't help. I am going with a group of 5 people. I am hopeful that since it is a Friday night game some will show up last minute. Although Chile doesn't have the allure of Brazil or Argentina to a casual fan, the fact that they are reigning champs and have Sanchez and Vidal (among best in South America and arguably the world) will hopefully draw knowledgeable fans. Though I just looked at available tickets on Ticketmaster and it doesn't bode well for atmosphere.

Personally, I believe that Chile is going to kick their arses so I don't think it would be a game I would want to see as a neutral.
    But that's just me.

That is the safe bet, especially since Chile killed them in last Copa (though it was in Chile). Though despite their poor record Bolivia has not been overwhelmed in WC qualifying so far. They gave Colombia a great game in March, even if it was at home. Teams like Bolivia and Venezuela aren't nearly as good as Argentina or Brazil, but they rarely get killed...they usually put up a good fight.
Remember, Bolivia made it out of the group stage last Copa! Pretty good considering they were only team in group that was not in last World Cup :)

Playing close at home in Altitude is not the same as neutral site.
But you never know. That is why they play the games.

Dam these prices are crazy, for instances the AO sections is on one end line, which we sold for $75 but the oppositte end, so the same seats are currently $180. What everyonce person is going to buy those last minute.

I see some "instant download" tickets for consecutively numbered seats have started to show up on Stubhub for Friday's first game. Organizers putting excess inventory out on the resale market, perhaps?

I bought a venue pass for Soldier Field, which includes Jamaica/Panama on Sunday. Face value for those tickets is $50 (top level, behind the goal). I saw lower level, corner tickets (row 8) for $14 after fees on Stubhub [and bought them]. Seems like that game, in particular, will have a lot of excess inventory.

That would be the only explantion for such listings in my mind. It also lets them take the tickets off the TM system, almost making it look like they were sold.

Any one have any idea why many groups of sections in Gillette Stadium (New England) and possibly other stadiums (not sure , haven't checked) have no tickets for sale? For e.g. The entire upper tier on one half of the stadium is not available, along with most of the second tier on that same side.
Are they saving them for some later time (seems unlikely since the first game is just over a week away)?
It's weird because on the other side of the stadium almost every seat is still available in the upper tier (at least for Chile v Bolivia).

Those sections are closed (will have tarps covering seats) since organizers didn't expect ticket sales to be strong...particularly in Foxborough. This is pretty common when soccer games are played in NFL stadiums. Although Chile are the reigning champions, they don't have the allure to fill a 70,000 person stadium. So only ~45,000 seats are available for the game.

Seems odd that on one hand they don't think they can sell more than 45,000 (not even for the quarterfinal) and on the other hand the starting ticket price is about $100.

For the quarterfinal, if they are reaching near a sell-out then they will slowly open up other sections. They just rather sell the expensive seats before opening up more upper tier seats. Also, this is better if you are a fan...so that people are more concentrated in one area (ie providing more atmosphere). Anyway, I agree that tickets are WAY overpriced. Having said that, I will be there for the Chile-Bolivia game. It may be overpriced but I'll regret not paying an extra ~$40-50 to go to a Copa America game...I doubt the tournament will be back anytime too soon.

Blame the US federation for the expensive tickets since they are the ones that get to keep all the ticket money.

Many of these games are going to be empty. I just checked what is still available for the PY-CR match I will be attending tomorrow and there are a ton of seats left:

On the other hand one could say that even if only 18k (~30% capacity) attend this game which is more than 12 of the 26 matches from last year's tournament where you actually had three games get less than 7k.

What everyone knew from the beginning is that the big dogs (USA, Mex, Brazil, Arg) are going to almost sell out regardless of where the game is. The rest is a crap shoot based on location and even then you priobably aren't going to get close to 50% for much of these games. This is Copa America, not the World Cup, something very few people know of and because of the circumstance surrounding it being put together was not able to be properly hyped which means empty stadiums. But in the end when you bring in sponsors and TV it is going to still make a ton of $$$.

Yup. Not to beat a dead horse but they should have held group games for non-highly seeded teams in MLS soccer specific stadiums. Compared to last Copa attendance figures will be higher but I think that is a low bar, especially considering what was possible. For instance, they could have had one game like Costa Rica v Paraguay in Colorado Rapids stadium where 18k would have been a sell out with great atmosphere.

Florida has both the largest Haitian population and the largest Peruvian population of all US states and the game between these teams is played in Seattle, probably as far as you can get from Florida in the contiguous US.
I understand that there are deals in place with stadiums before the draw and that games can not be moved around on too short notice. However the organizers should have understood that some games would be less attractive to neutrals and have some mechanism in place to allocate these games to smaller venues, or as in this case to areas where they could expect more local interest.

Yeah, USA Colombia was a sellout. I was at the game and they made an announcement and showed a graphic on the big screen that it was a sellout.

However section 138 and 139, were only half full. The back rows of those 2 sections were conspicuously empty. Everything around the stadium looked jam packed. 138 and 139 are the field level sideline, so I assume they are the more expensive tickets. So I assume those tickets were purchased by some corporate type folks who didn't show up. The front rows of those sections were full.
