Toyota Park has areas of coverage. I also think if it does rain, it may be on and off or a periodic brief thing. You should go. TP is a beautiful facility and parking is FREE.
No - I have required travel in a different direction. I am hoping to make it up for those 2 games in June - 12th and 18th. Fingers crossed that can work out.
If you're worried about rain ask for seats on the east side sections 126-130 rows 10-20 and you will be under the roof.
I did not go to Sunday's game against Sky Blue as I had other commitments. It does not surprise me that attendance was low at Toyota Park on Sunday as there were Youth tournaments all over the city and suburbs as well as activities everywhere, Cubs games, cook outs, you name it. So if a diehard like me can't make it, I don't see many fair weather fans going to Toyota Park on the south side of Chicago for a women's soccer match on a beautiful Memorial Day weekend.
Ray Cook and I missed you yesterday. Without Press the red stars struggled to score. Why they play at 6:00pm and not later when the sun is down. Their next game is at 5:00pm which means the sun will be in our eyes the whole game.
I agree. This game and the next one against Portland should be at night when the Youth Club teams are done playing and sun is down. And people can actually make it.
A lot of the start times are weird.... neither afternoon nor evening. I wonder if there is some effort to avoid lights or something to contain costs.
Sunday June 12, 5:00 pm CT, Chicago Red Stars vs. Portland Thorns - Toyota Park, Chicago Big game this weekend for both Red Stars and Portland. Chicago will have all their players available and Portland is loaded. I will be there for sure and I'm hoping we get a good crowd at Toyota Park.
Good evaluation the Red Stars at this time and leading into the Olympics where they will lose their National Team players: http://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/featu...rce=Twitter&utm_medium=Social#:PHF6Ur4nTwFkQQ
Well it looks like we will luck out with the weather clear and in the 70's not 90's like yesterday and today. Hope to see everyone out there. I still don't like 5:00pm starts though.
http://chicagoredstars.com/red-stars-portland-draw-1-1-in-fierce-battle/ Thank goodness for press. We need to clone press have one of them pass to the other press who scores.
Glad I was able to make it to the game as this one was one I did not want to miss. I spent the first half hour having deja vu vibes/flashback from the semi-final with KC as it looked very similar. Portland's quality pretty evident in all positions. Kling was great to watch - such a dynamo. Mind blowing goal created for Portland by Red Stars... again echoes of the semi-final, but this time team showed some great resolve. Second half was another story, and great to see the Red Stars kicking it into gear and starting to control more of the game. I thought Julie Johnston had an outstanding game and did so much to keep things organized and shut down. Casey Short did not have her best game offensively, but considering what they were dealing with, she and Arin did really well. Gilliland had some great runs and feints. I felt that some of the players were maybe a little overwhelmed by the thoughts of their match-ups and were playing either a little scared, or giving a little too much respect, initially. Red Stars did a good job neutralizing Horan also. So I think a pretty great defensive effort overall. Great to see the team going for the win and I really believed they were going to somehow pull that out. Christen Press is an irreplaceable treasure... but there were other signs of offensive life - the almost bicycle by DaCosta was pretty great and I thought that Huerta had some reasonable efforts on goal. Center ref was petty with his calls (and cards) and had a knack for being in wrong place and standing like post in middle of play. West-side linesman also (?visually) challenged and I am certain he miscalled several onside runs as offside. Left my seat at halftime and sorry to say that means I missed the Michele Lomnicki tribute. I assumed I could see it on the youtube half-time, but did not find it there, just some pre-recorded tributes about her.
I didn't see the entire match but I thought the referee, Levi Rippy, was quite good and I approved of his handing out yellow cards at the time. As fans, we're just never satisfied. In many games, fans complain the refs let too much go. If they call it tight, then they're petty or card-happy. Of course it isn't necessarily the same fans in both cases but the impression is the same, as well as the conclusion -- which is it doesn't pay to pay attention to what the fans say because we're never happy anyway!
LOL, I was wondering what happened here when I watched the game. When you right hook your best friend in the face and she still agrees to be bffs @schuerta #friendshipgoals https://t.co/EFidBp3o9C— Danielle Colaprico (@dannycolaprico) June 17, 2016 First and hopefully last time I'll ever be punched in the face @dannycolaprico https://t.co/tRePIzCpu0— Sofia Huerta (@schuerta) June 17, 2016
Last Saturday's game was good. More possession in midfield, better passing and Sofia put her shots away. The crowd, although not big was into every play. I had a blast. Tomorrow's game in Portland will tell us if the Red Stars are a serious contender.
http://chicagoredstars.com/chicago-trades-with-bos-gains-draft-pick/ Boston gets what they need, Red Stars get what they are good at.
Even though Chicago lost that game, I think they still played very well. If Huerta's shot that hit the post goes in, I firmly believe Chicago would have gone on to win.
