I tuned in just in time for the penalty! I totally screwed up the time and thought it was starting when it was actually ending :(

Anyway, I'm really happy to see our guys take a 2-0 advantage over River. Defending champs or not, I think there is an intrinsic motivation for IDV to do something big because of the earthquake. Even when Liga won, the national support for a potential Ecuadorian champion was widespread, but it wasn't passionate....now, it looks like all of Ecuador is standing alongside IDV, and I love it! Great job to a great club.

IDV just made it to the Quarterfinals. What an achievement! Mina's performances are starting to become consistent for the Libertadores which is a good thing. Azcona had a hell of a game today! Repetto defending for dear life all game is a risky tactic and almost backfired against Colo Colo; River had quite a few chances and again hit the post multiple times.

Hopefully eliminating a club like River will get some of these players more attention. Orejuela is one to look out for in the national team as well. Plays the number 5 role well, covers ground, and has good ball control. With a couple more years of development, he'd definitely be an upgrade over Quinonez or Alex Bolanos in the midfield.

Mina and Azcona had a great night, holding off River in The monumental is no easy feat.Mina def needs to take Achiliers place till he's fully recovered.

Didn't get to see the match today but according to the highlights... It's amazing Ind del Valle is going through lol. I did get to see the first game and it was amazing. The atmosphere was awesome and Ind del Valle played fantastic. I just don't think it was a good idea going all defense the whole 90 min+. Too risky. This team is pretty incredible and the people in charge showing everyone who a team should be run.

Just read that Independiente will also be donating the money from their upcoming game against Pumas.I understand their heart is in the right place but they already donated the take from last River match.maybe they should just donate a percentage ,after all they re a small team.I'm sure they can use it to strengthen their coffers, with the way their players are showing themselves on international tv some will probably get offers.

I think they want to build up the atmosphere and get people to come to the game. The game in Quito had a really good attendance and the players really appreciated the support. I didnt read how much money they would donate but I agree it should only be a percentage.

Independiente Already let some strong players go but are still going strong surprisingly (Pineida, Henry Leon, Guerrero, Daniel Angulo etc) some players that might get scouted and leave are Orujuella, Mina, Angulo so they to think about what will be there base for next season.

Let them do as they please :)

IDV's virtue is their revenue doesn't rest solely on packing bodies into seats for game days. Much of their money comes from their youth leagues and growing endorsement deals. Plus, the owner has a lot of real estate holdings that keeps the team stable. Personally, I'd say that even 50% is a solid donation to the cause, but this is a great sign of solidarity that might pay off in the future....extra press is a good thing. More social media attention is a good thing. More merchandise sales, perhaps? Who knows...

kudos to them for making a big sacrifice. 600k for an Ecua team to give up is a sizable sum.

Ind. del Valle going to penalties. No matter what happened I haven't seen an Ecuadorian team play so good away in Mexico. After that left back left (forgot his name. His fault for both goals) and Cabezas moved to LB, Ind del Valle improved a lot. Cabezas actually is a great left wing but he might be a better LB. Cabezas is another player to watch. I say move him to LB!

By the way Uchuari sucks ass.

Major huevos from these homies. I thought it was all lost. 2 goals in 2 minutes, a red card, and STILL they found a way to score.

Now, I really have to tip my hat off to their directors and leadership- IDV is an exemplar case for our league and fans to observe. I'm not usually one to highlight competition as fiercely, especially as a Liga fan, but IDV has really taken things that Liga did in the early 2000s and scaled its progress. They have the best youth facilities in the entire nation and their training grounds are pristine.

On to Boca- quite possibly the biggest test (worse than Sao Paulo or Nacional). I'm honestly not confident at all and won't be expecting another Leicester City storyline, but if anyone can do it, it's these guys.

We need to be VERY mentally tough to go to the Bombonera and try to squeak out any honorable scoreline. Boca is Boca. That stadium is loud, the fans are nuts, and the team is so rooted in history that anyone is an underdog going there even if its a superior squad. We need to be VERY careful.

Today, we can celebrate IDV though!!!! Ecuador should unite under these guys!!!!!!!

I actually feel confident about IDV against Boca. Boca has been playing some really shoddy futbol all competition long and relies heavily on Tevez. In the Argentina Serie A, they have 20 points compared to River Plate's 18. My biggest concern would be the match in Argentina but mostly because of the refs, not so much because of Boca itself. IDV already faced a not-so-hostile environment vs River and came out with a result.

Biggest negative of this is the long wait until July to resume the cup.

Hello everyone...it's been a while. A LONG time and I see you guys have still been keeping this place alive. Good to know!

To comment on what you said, no they don't. They've already thought of it years before you even mentioned it lol. It's IDV we're talking about. They know what's on the come up for next season before it even begins. Everything they execute is well planned because they have the best youth divisions and development processes in the country. That's their entire mind set. Develop, develop, develop. To be honest, they already know what players will be on the first squad two and maybe even three years from now.

IDV will ALWAYS have a base simply because their "base" (per say) has been established from their youth systems and beyond until those guys reach the major squad. They win just about every campeonato from U-10 or U-12 all the way to U-18 (or whatever the final "youth division" campeonato is) every single year, back to back. So in reality, the base is always there cuz these kids have been playing ball together since forever ago.

lol how you been Meng where you been at ?

This is true they would always have a youth player to step in and take place the thing im trying to point out is how they maintain this level of competitiveness. It true they have players lined up from youth but guys like Sornoza, Orejuella, Cabeza, Caicedo, etc have had several seasons playing the starting positions in Independiente and have now gelled into what we have now. The only exception would be Angulo who recently jumped in to the first team and made an impact so quickly which is amazing and a god sent to have a such a bright forward at his age the time for him couldnt be better.

These guys are making noise so key players are going to be transferred out. I know they will use the money wisely and will still have good and interesting performances in cups but a big run like this into Quarter Finals and beyond will most likely not happen until the new faces have consolidated them selves. Offensive wise it should never be an issue, but in defense they need to be very careful about it.

After Pineida left Ayala has taken the spot he is ok but not amazing and got a red card so next game Repetto will probably go with some one who is not a natural left back like Cabeza or maybe even Tellechera or a youth player that hasnt had much playing time this season which is not a good thing this late into the cup I think his name is Landazuri. When Mina leave they can go with Leon who usually doesnt play to much now and tends to foul or try a new face that will take time to adapt and grow. They will have to go through a rebuild process and it a given when players leave and new faces come in.

I cant wait to see what happens next. the player who make the jump to Europe, the new faces that come in. Independiente is making El Futbol Ecuatoriano look good again.

I think as long as they keep the same coaches they'll be fine. It seems like they will lose hecka players after this season. Might not be the same team but they'll gel again with new youth players right away in a year. If I'm not wrong Ind del Valle are the champs of almost every single age group... Right? They have talent for a decade lol. For me though is how Liga will answer and start copying the same process lol.

Good to see b9d23m89 back on the forum.

A couple of years ago they were classified as an elevator team. It's funny how the the casual fan is just now starting to jump on the Independiente del Valle bandwagon. A lot of us on this forum have known of their potential for several years now. I don't understand why other teams don't attempt to follow their blueprint. Invest in the youth system by putting resources into scouting, infrastructure, and player development. It's not rocket science. Most teams simply don't have the patience for it though. It's a process that's not going to pay off in the short term and there's going to be growing pains. The casual fan wants instant gratification and I guess that plays into it. They would much rather prefer to see their team go after and sign an expensive foreigner than roll the dice with a youngster.

Well most teams have to face with debt and it would be hard for them to pull money to put in a long term investment like that. Its worth it but hard if you cant get the money for it. For Example Barcelona Moreno and Cevallos have the intentions of building up solid youth systems but first have to get rid of massive debt. The only team that can do so at this moment and is managing their money well is Emelec.

I am pretty sure they are starting to invest a little in their youth systems but at this point wont be noticeable. They still want to be competitive and the champions at local level which is why they have the players they have.

On top of that the lower table teams that are fighting relegation are the last ones the want to roll the dice they cant afford to lose games or take chances.

So the only teams that would do this now would be ones that have got rid of any debt they have, are not fighting relegation or are new and upcoming teams that want to make a long term investment like this.

Our league need to change and I have said it for a while. We have to many foreigners and too little teams in Seria A. We need to expand the league and try to regulate the foreigners that big teams sign.

Liga's youth system isn't bad either. They are actually always tailgating Independiente along with Emelec. Liga's actually had great progress at youth level in the last few years. We can start from- Gabriel Corozo, Kevin Mercado, Cevallos Jr (when he left to Juventus), Kevin Mercado, and now Pervis Estupinan who will be playing in Watford....the freakin premier league at age 18. That's excellent work at youth level if you ask me. Whether these guys succeed abroad or not is another question, but Liga does enough to catch the eye of European teams/foreign teams in general which means THEY are doing they're work. I still have yet to see one of these guys fully succeed, but it won't take long until they do. They're all really good players. Poor Andy Casquete was about to go to Manchester City or another big European team and then the whole age problem came about....in the end it wasn't his fault. Anyways, I hear he still has offers pending now that his case is resolved. Let's hope he makes the jump to a European club team in a top league.

Other than that Liga has Luis Canga, Hansel Batalla, Alfredo Intriago, and I have really great references from Gabriel Cevallos (keeper) and Nazareno (keeper) that come from the youth system as well. And I'm sure there's more to come. If anything I applaud Liga for their improvement at youth level. Every other club team in Ecuador needs to work. Emelec does a good and stable job. BSC is improving. El Nacional seems to have found themselves (at least so far). Rest of the teams need to work. I know Aucas got to the Serie A placing their bets on their youth system. I'm not the biggest Joao Rojas fan from Aucas. I think he's very much average despite all the acclaim he gets. He'll probably end up being just as good as Joao Rojas from Cruz Azul at best to be honest. He's no crack. And to go a bit off topic, there's really no "cracks" up and coming that I see which is a bit worrisome. I like Bryan Angulo from Emelec. I said it a few season ago when I saw him debut. All it took was 15 mins and that kid had me impressed. Very interesting player for everyone to keep their eyes on. I like Erick Castillo from BSC too, but he's not amazing. Let's see where he can take his skills. Orejuela, Cabezas, Luis Caicedo, and of course Jose Angulo (who's the REAL crack)- are players we've been talking about for a while now. Orejuela was making his way up. Caicedo needed to find consistency. It was always between him and Fernando Leon, but he always had the potential to be an awesome player. Cabezas is an awesome new product of Indep. Sornoza is as good as he'll always be. He is no crack, neither is Uchuari. They're ok. Sornoza is perfect to play in Independiente, but when it comes to playing in bigger leagues the kid doesn't have the physical attributes to succeed. He only attacks and never defends. Too one dimensional in my book. Good player, but not good enough to think he'll ever be in a top league killing it.

Because it generates news and attention. More attendance, more viewers, more interest. In the end it pays off if the signing ends up being successful like Daniel Stracqualursi (for example). If the option was have Bryan Angulo become the starter in place of Miller OR sign Traca, which one generates more attention in the media? Another example- the return of Damian Diaz in BSC this year...HUGE. This guy is the biggest idolo I've seen in more than a decade. Definitely one of the best foreigners in the last decade as well. Expensive foreigner, but successful signing. The news and interest he generated alone was BIG. It's like if Barcos would return to Liga, or Miller/Enner to Emelec. That generates TONS of interest to even go back to the stadium, especially if the team starts performing well and having a good season.

But Emelec KNOWS their stuff when it comes to youth development. I see changes in BSC since Cevallos came into play. I'm sure their youth development will be grand from now til the next few years while he's there. He KNOWS his stuff too. He's got the right mixture going in BSC. I think signing Suarez was the only mistake made. Waste of money if you ask me.

I have to say that Independiente bench and reserved players played a really good game vs Aucas.

Javier Nazareno: He is 19 years old he started today and one thing I noticed about him he has some confidence for a young GK seemed really calm and kept a clean sheet today I think those are some really good qualities. Alexi Lemos wasnt even considered for this game.

Anthony Landázuri: He has played a couple of times this season I thought Fernando Leon would be Caicedo partner but it was this kid. Did pretty well today I think we should keep our eye on him.

Luis Caicedo: He played really well today excellent game glad to see him like this right before he goes to play vs Boca in a couple of weeks.

Sebastián Méndez: I think he played well. He just returned from playing in the third division of spain. I think he is another player to keep eyes on for next season.

Gabriel Cortez: He did well too vital to their offense.

Now they are in third place. I am surprised that Gonzalez didnt get minutes today I think it will take him longer than I thought to recover his futbol we might not see him vs Boca but its ok. Our next game is vs El Nacional lets see how that game goes.
