With 1 game to play in the 2nd round: Home teams went 14-6 on advancement. Advancement by affiliation: USL 13-4 USASA 3-3 PDL 3-5 NPSL 1-7 USSSA 0-1 For the entire tournament so far: Home teams have went 25-17 on advancement. Advancement by affiliation: USL 13-4 USASA 10-8 USSSA 1-1 PDL 11-15 NPSL 8-14 USCS 0-1 I corrected the standings in light of the 1st round forfeit by Ventura County.
ELO ratings should go up tonight upon the completion of the last R2 game. I've corrected the results so they don't include the forfeit/invalid game in R1.
Here's the 2nd round update of my ever popular* league ELO rankings. *not at all true Some basic info, for those who want it: 1. These rankings use all USOC games since 1996 to determine the relative strengths of the leagues. The names used below just represent the current names of leagues at that level. In reality the leagues have changed around a lot, and what is now NASL used to be USL D-1, and the A League before it. Similarly for all the other levels. 2. There are bound to be mistakes back in the history, but the beauty of ELO rankings is that they are self-correcting over time, so the "actual strengths" probably aren't too far off from this right now, even with errors in older competitions. 3. The actual results used are as follows: a. Game finishes in regulation with a result: goals scored b. Game finishes after extra time with a result: goals scored c. Game goes to penalty kicks: goals scored before the penalty kicks. The game is "recorded" as a tie. 4. A home team has its rating raised by 100, and the change in ratings for each of the teams is calculated based on the result of the game, and the relative difference between the two ratings. This means that currently, we would expect an NASL team hosting an MLS team to be slightly in favor of the MLS team, but not significantly so. 5. The average change in score for any individual game is about 7. This means that one league goes up by 7, and the other down by 7. 6. There is no way to account for the fact that many MLS teams play 'B' or 'C' sides in the first few rounds they participate. I can only base it on the teams fielded. It didn't make a huge impact, but it did make one. PDL made a bit of a leap this round, NPSL a bit of a drop. USL and USASA both made small adjustments up. Edit: NOTE: These scores do account for a scratched result in R2 as well.
http://www.postandcourier.com/20160...ove-on-in-us-open-cup-after-villages-forfeit- That is the 2nd overturned result, one in each round, for the same offense; using a player that had previously played for a different team in the amateur qualifying tournament.
Updated and corrected statistics reflecting Thursday's game and change of Charleston/The Villages result: 2nd round Home teams went 15-6 on advancement. Advancement by affiliation: USL 14-3 USASA 3-4 PDL 3-6 NPSL 1-7 USSSA 0-1 For the entire tournament so far: Home teams have went 26-17 on advancement. Advancement by affiliation: USL 14-3 USASA 10-9 USSSA 1-1 PDL 11-16 NPSL 8-14 USCS 0-1
Not for the U.S. Open Cup. Usually they are 1-0 losses. I looked into that last year. Apparently the particular competition can use whatever score they want. 3-0 is typical in league or group play situations but in a knock-out tournament 1-0 works just as well.
Thanks for the correction. But the end result is the same though. If USSF used the ELO rating, it would be recorded as a loss rather than something else.

La Maquina were put on double secret probation following a melee against San Nicolas FC in December. I hope they win and get Galaxy and Nigel de Jong in the next round.
La Máquina FC vs LA Wolves - I assume the winner will play Galaxy. Here are the original LA Wolves playing the Washington Whips in the first televised US championship final shown on US TV. The teams were actually Wolverhampton Wanderers from England and Aberdeen from from Scotland transported to the US to fulfill a TV contract. Wikipedia.. In 1966 a group of sports entrepreneurs, led by Jack Kent Cooke and including Lamar Hunt and Steve Stavro, formed a consortium known as the North American Soccer League with the intention of forming a professional soccer league in North America. This group was subsequently sanctioned by both the USSFA and FIFA. However a rival consortium known as the National Professional Soccer League also emerged and to avoid confusion Cooke renamed his consortium the United Soccer Association. The USA originally intended to launch its league in the spring of 1968. However the NPSL, which secured a TV contract from CBS, announced it was ready to launch in 1967. Not wanting to lose ground to its rival, the USA decided to fast track its launch. Without any players of its own, it opted to import whole teams from Europe and South America.

Not all of them. Just 8 out of 9. The hosting standards go up each round so it is likely that a lot of lower division teams didn't even apply to host. MLS is similar in the 4th round. As many as 13 of the 17 MLS teams will host depending on the 3rd round results.
In terms of how many Fourth Round games MLS clubs could host, it's really 13 out of 16 because in the game with two MLS clubs they can't both host. Since MLS started, what's the latest round a club below MLS has hosted a game in?
Yeah, good point. I was just counting hosts and forgot about the MLSvMLS game. In 2014, the Carolina RailHawks and Atlanta Silverbacks of NASL hosted 2 of the 4 quarterfinals. There have been others. There have been some lower division teams host in the semifinals: 1996 - Rochester (A League) 1997 - SF Seals (USL-2) 2008 - Charleston (USL) I think that's it since 1996. Remember that hosting used to be a bid situation so that affects it somewhat. Also, back in the 90s the semifinals and final were sometimes at neutral fields.
Are NASL stadiums that much better than USL stadiums though? oh well. Wish USSF was more open about who applied to host and who didn't.
It is not about the stadiums being better. The fees and other costs like referees go up each round so it is about what teams think they can afford. Plus, in the 3rd Round the USL teams might be hosting their 2nd game so they might have wiped out their budget on that first game.

NYCFC was already chosen to host in the 4th Round when they might play the Cosmos. They are hosting the game at Fordham University. The Cosmos usually have to move their Open Cup games as well. Their "home" game next week is at St. John's University .
That didn't take long to be incorrect. Fort Lauderdale has moved their game up to 11:00 am due to an international friendly in the stadium that evening. Third Round NASL teams enter in this round.
