All of Bayern's celebrations, including more short footage of Hoffenheim's players fully taking part in Bayern's post match festivities...; I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before lol...

LOOOOL what elite???.....USA aside there is NO "elite" nations in terms of goalkeeping...Have you seen Euro U17 goalies ??.....It was sad to notice that female football still has a looong way to go in goalkeepers formation.

Like the German goalie saving two pens each down in the corner?

Hmmmm, lol compared to this from 5 years ago...?

With UEFA running the boys U-17 championships at the same time, it's pretty clear girls don't come close to males of the same age in relation to reaction times, or pure physical size and a matching mobility; but guys won't be taking shots at women in full sized goals either, meaning most of the problems we still see are down to technical issues that can definitely be fixed over time.

Shot stopping, catching high balls, and precise distribution, have all improved massively in this tournament. But technical issues like footwork and positioning, along with raw size and athleticism, will likely remain an issue for all 15-17yo girls playing at this level of international football.

Your a 5'6/5'8 16yo girl trying to maintain traditional GK angles in stopping shots, you may just find the ball flying over your head or down past your feet every once in a while.

That looked like a player that was placed into goal following the injury to the regular keeper. I think she was afraid to attempt a diving save, had no interest in using her hands to stop the ball, and didn't look mobile enough to be in goal. I've seen bad goalkeeping before, but that was a childlike performance.

@RockyTopFan The scary thing about this footage is how that particular Iceland team (the team this GK performance happens with) must of managed to qualify from the Elite round stage of UEFA competition, in order to reach a point of being one of the elite to play in Switzerland that year...:speechless:

Plus debzy talks as if this is only a UEFA problem, but not long ago with little to no complaints, she watched her French U-17 side benefit from all kinds of terrible GK at the global level on route to wining their first FIFA WC tournament...

I mean for all of the physical limitations of young females trying to be elite level GK's, without poor German finishing, and Spain's GK putting in a fine solo effort, Germany win the recent U-17 Euro final comfortably over the 80 mins; and this ignoring the saves we saw from both GK's during the PK's too.

5 years on, no team could ever hope to reach a UEFA U-17 finals event having a GK as poor as the unfortunate girl showcased in that video footage; and even with mistakes, things have improved significantly in certain areas of female youth level GK'ing.

Talking goal keepers, did anybody notice FC Köln's GK Lena Nuding...?

Now 23, she's a former German youth international who stands a solid 6 feet in height, and has all the attributes of the kind of elite athletic females you'd expect to see more of in women's football too; and guess what, she's still competing for a starting role at the Bundesliga's bottom club FC Köln..

I didn't know that was during the elite round of the tournament... Without the goalie having some major head injury during that game, the quality of competition must have been awful for them to advance as far as they did. The only time I've seen anything close to that level of incompetence it was due to a head injury and the player mentioned being dizzy, seeing doubles, and had a headache (before the current knowledge about head injuries).

I don't get to watch too many Bundesliga games so I haven't seen her play, but I hope that means the global level of goalkeeping is improving. I hate watching good teams play a terrific game and lose because the keeper can't catch a simple ball in the air.

No, lol back then first you had the mini qualifying round, then the elite round, all to find the four best nations able to qualify for the finals tournament to be held in Switzerland. Somehow with that GK, that particular Iceland team, were able to obtain a good enough wining record during the Elite round, to see them placed as one of Europe's top 4 U-17 sides that year...:speechless:

Spain would go on a beat France in the final, with Germany handing Iceland a 8-2 defeat during the 3rd place match; but with improved competition, 2013 saw UEFA expand to 8 teams competing at it's European U-17 finals tournament, where low level hosts like Belarus are simply allowed to take part now, as some form of wider developmental process.
    Go here... http://tv.dfb.de/page/allianz-frauen-bundesliga/310/1/#filter

You get a full match replay of the VfL Wolfsburg -:- FC Köln match, plus Bundesliga's other weekly featured games, with all the highlights of every other match from this and last season all there to be viewed. The standard of GK is fine...

the Bundesliga has solid goalkeepers, though you wouldn't want to judge them by German NT coach, Neid's 1st choice, Schult(WOB), who's hasn't inspired a lot of confidence as of late. I would say the BUND is the most technical advanced league in the world and physically, as strong as anyone. Each of their coaches have their own unique style, but it doesn't mean your going to watch necessarily the most thrilling games; midfield dominance seems to be the main order of the business, which means more passing, less transitional attacks. The BUND is helped that not only they got almost all of Germany's best players in it, but also Switzerland & Austria's as well as a smattering of Eastern Euro's best players. You could even add some of Japan's best in Ogimi, Iwasbuchi, Ando & Nagasato. Remember too, that Europe doesn't have college ball, so the best young players are pro's, sometimes as young ads 14 year old, as thats when Marozsan turned pro

there was an all-star team picked in the French League. This would be my pick for the BUND. Obviously haven't watched all the games, so I do got to go with stats/league standings a bit. I think Popp is a better fwd than Islacker for example, but I was surprised that she only scored 6 goals to Mandy's 17, isn't something you can't easily ignore. There were many to choose from for gk, but my pick took an otherwise mediocre team in Jena to 6th place while playing every game for them.

    GK.........................................Michel(JE)

    DF.........Kemme(PO)......Puntigam(FR).....Denman(HO)....Lowendowski(BM)

    DM........................................Goessling(WO)

    WM................Hansen(WO)......................................Magull(FR)

    AM.........................................Marozsan(FR)

    FW................Miedema(BM)..................Islacker(FR)

@hotjam2 This years Bundesliga saw the leagues top scorer crowned with the fewest goals scored in the competitions history (17), just one short of the previous low of 18 produced by Yuki Ogimi then of Potsdam, nowhere near the highest of 38 scored by Inka Grings..:geek:

So add this to the other fact of Popp still finding her self being tasked with linking play instead of trying to simply score goals, and it probably better explains why she has so few goals on a Wolfsburg team which finished the season with the leagues best overall attack.

Anyway, playing the team of the season game, I'd go with...

    GK........................................................Korpela (BM)

    DF.....Lewandowski (BM)......Holstad Berge (BM).....Störzel (FR)....Ioannidou (ES)

    DM......................................................Goeßling (WO)

    WM........................Hansen (WO)......................................Magull (FR)

    AM......................................................Marozsan (FR)

    FW......................Miedema (BM)......................................Huth (TP)

BENCH: Doorsoun - Kemme - Schöne - Demann - Däbritz

    COACH: Markus Högner

    • Alexander Fischinger announces his departure from cup finalists SC Sand...o_O
    • Jennifer Zietz will return to Turbine Potsdam next season as assistant coach

It won't happen until the cup final's over, but SC Sand's Fischinger seems to have made his decision based on outside commitments beginning to interfere with his second job of coaching an elite level women's club team; or is it the other way round..?

Anyway, this may also explain his teams recent woeful league form, but what about Sand's mental approach headed towards the cup final now...:coffee:

LOL, they were just recently promoted, but yeah... they'll need to bring in somebody good, and quick, or they'll be playing most of next season trying to avoid Bundesliga 2, not finish mid-table and reach cup finals.

If a lack of stability means they lose players like Jovana Damnjanović, it's definitely over for Sand next season...

You don't like them..? Or does their more international squad pose concerns...?

A new look Duisburg coming back will be interesting for the league, but who's currently sat outside of the top division, with the possibility of making this league any better than SC Sand...?

Without serious money/male club backing, or a highly credible youth academy, won't it be a rinse and repeat cycle for many of these promoted Bundesliga 2 clubs...?

It's not that I dont like them. There isnt any team in Bundesliga now Id say I like them. Sand is some bumpkin village not contributing fans or money to the whole project. Thats the problem I have with them. But since that is simply what they are, why should I hate them for that?

LOL, well I know I'm not the only person who hates the exaggerated narrative of the underdog story, but it's rare to hear that sentiment being uttered around here.

Yes, they do have the worst facilities in the league, a fact that's been openly ridiculed by rival coaches too; but as teams go, given their low status, they've actually built a very good side in a relatively short space of time, no?

Like you, I wouldn't mourn the relegation of Sand, but for all of their superior facilities do you see a Mönchengladbach competing for cup finals inside the first two seasons of their top level Bundesliga experience..?

    • Anna Gerhardt (18) leaves FC Köln to and signs a two year contract with Bayern München
    • Laura Feiersinger (23) leaves Bayern München to sign for SC Sand
    • Sarah Romert (21) extends her contract to stay with Bayern München
OK, so after dismissing Bayern's ability to identify or retain the nations top domestic prospects, they go and sign the excellent Anna Gerhardt, and extend the contract of equally talented Sarah Romert lol.

People will probably question the chances of Gerhardt finding success at Bayern, but this seems like a pre emptive strike from one big club to keep other big clubs away from obtaining one of the nations top prospects.

Seriously, already signing Faißt, Laudehr, Gerhardt, and retaining Romert, with a returning Lotzen on the horizon.., I'm thinking Wolfsburg better wake up, because Bayern are one or two genuinely elite signings away from taking the next step towards domestic dominance and UCL relevancy.

So hmmm, who's going to get Stefanie Sanders away from relegated Werder Bremen...:whistling:
