Just curious, who do you think the top scorer will be? I created a poll with IMO some of the best strikers in Europe right now. With more teams and games this year, maybe someone will even beat Platinis's record of 9 tournament goals (1984).
I think Muller. But I would be surprised if its Ronaldo, Lewandowski, or even De Bruyne, Insigne, or Sigurdsson. Maybe even Mandzukic.
I agree with you. Would love Lewandowski to win but I think it will be someone from a team which gets to the final 4. And Germany and France are definitely the favorites to do so. Yep, my mistake.
how the hell does my man CR7 not have any votes? Best Player in the World and Portugal got some dank teams in their group.
Because there's a serious lack of attacking threat outside him on Portugal to prevent defences focusing entirely on him? Nani isn't exactly cream of the crop. Not to mention that Ronaldo doesn't really have a track record of racking up goals in international tournaments, despite being an exceptional overall goal threat. EDIT: And welcome to BigSoccer.
Iceland, Austria, Hungary these teams are garbage man. Portugal midfield is alot better now (Sanches even though hes overrated, Gomes, Mario, William, Danilo etc) than it has been in many years, Ronaldo will be getting better service and chances to score than ever. everyone always writes of Portugal cause we get all the chicks.
I voted for Lewandowski, no bias or anything But if I was a betting man, I would go in this order to win it outright [I think 4-5 goals total wins it (less Platini) and based my odds on a player that can get 2-3 goals in one game in the group stage]: CR7 (he will get and take the most chances in a favorable group - good midfield that would be looking for him) Griezmann (great player, home field advantage - again favorable group and maybe bracket) Mueller (Germany are a tournament team, so he should get at least 5 games - but he really is a team player, maybe a little too unselfish to win another golden boot award in major tournament...been there, done that) I think there are some real bargains for the silver boot though, if you can find the right bet maker (Ibrahimovic, Giroud, Rooney, De Buryne, Gomez, Mandzukic, Milik, etc...) A good strategy may also be to take a pool of money and divide it among the second tier golden boot candidates...its euro...there will be some surprises.
CR7 Why? Look at who they are playing... these are fine countries but have no experience in taking on the star power of Cristiano.
I don't know if it does... On one hand, of his 13 goals in qualifying, 6 were scored against Gibraltar and 3 against Georgia. On the other hand, scoring 13 of the country's 33 goals is quite impressive. I am torn.
Maybe I am overreacting to his play in the last couple friendlies but that Nolito guy for Spain really seems to have a nose for goals. I think he may be a dark horse guy that comes out of nowhere (relatively) to win the Golden boot.
Good poll. Its a very tough call because the choices seem to be either guys on mediocre teams who may not play more than 4 games (e.g. Lewandowski, CR7, Kane) or guys on teams that might go far but the scoring is likely to be spread around (e.g. Muller, Griezmann). So even while Griezmann might be the best attacker on France, are we even confident in saying he will be the top scorer for France, never mind of the whole tournament? My vote goes to Thomas Muller. Well, Austria does. But yeah, Hungary and Iceland might be a bit low on experience playing against world class players. Oddly, its probably better if Portugal finish 2nd in their group.
The question is, if Hodgson will have the balls to put Vardy in the starting 11? It could be Kane and Rooney upfront and Vardy on the bench. But we'll see soon enough
The problem is that if Vardy does make the starting 11, Hodgson puts him out wide, whereas he's far more effective centrally.
