Hamm committed to bringing women’s team to LA http://www.insidesocal.com/soccer/2...hamm-committed-to-bringing-womens-team-to-la/
Would be great if they started a NWSL team, but they've seemed rather non-commital about it to me. I know they're focused on starting the MLS team for now, but they could hire someone else to handle the formation of the NWSL team (someone like Charlie Naimo) and launch both in 2018.
If they plan on starting a NWSL team they should use LAFC brand and play in the same stadium. Call it LAFC - W and mix both fan bases together, including USL = LAFC II They should just add more investors who want to own NWSL under LAFC brand. The Sol where pretty much the galaxy's women team minus the brand. I think if AEG would have done that more to connect the Sol with galaxy team people in the area would have supported more.
The NWSL team has to have its own identity. That is mostly due to the different league uniform suppliers/sponsorship with adidas (MLS) and Nike (NWSL). That's why the MLS owned teams so far are the Portland Thorns, Houston Dash, and Orlando Pride, and not Timbers-W or Dynamo-W, for instance. The teams can share front offices, marketing, fan groups, all of that but the logos and names have to be separate.
The Sol had the best brand connection between the men's and women's teams, IMHO (keeping in mind what newtex wrote). And the Sol had the best attendance of all the WPS teams. The problem was that AEG wasn't committed to it and overcharged themselves for the use of their own stadium.
LAFC admitted to inaugural class of U.S. Soccer Girls Development Academy By Alicia Rodriguez on Jun 30, 2016, 1:46p + http://www.thegoatparade.com/2016/6...l-class-us-girls-development-slammers-fc-nwsl
LAFC to launch NWSL team in 2018 For those keeping tabs on NWSL expansion, like us, comes another development that may sound sweet to the ears of women’s soccer fans in Southern California. Charles Boehm reported on SoccerWire.com on Friday that not only will the region be the next site of NWSL expansion, but that “an ambitious push [is] to be led by Major League Soccer newcomers Los Angeles Football Club in 2018.” http://www.angelsonparade.com/2016/...-launch-nwsl-team-2018-mia-hamm-mls-expansion
From the SoccerWire article: If that's supposed to dispel the belief they are getting a team, they have failed.... I hope they use the Banc of California Stadium, though, and not the smaller stadium at their training complex. I don't want to have to drive all the way to Tustin. I'll be the first to sign up for season tickets (well, if they let me), if it's downtown!
NWSL expansion a priority in Los Angeles, says commissioner NWSL commissioner talks expansion, possibility of Los Angeles team http://www.angelsonparade.com/2017/...ansion-priority-los-angeles-says-commissioner
I don't like that Plush mentioned the Galaxy there. Hopefully he's just trying to spur on LAFC into committing by making them think there is some competition for the franchise. Cause I really don't want AEG to get the team, they had their shot at a professional women's team and they threw it away. Plus LAFC's stadium is going to be in a better location and is smaller than the StubHub Center.
It makes sense that they'd start a women's team. I would think that they'd wait a year or two to better establish LAFC on the field first, but we'll see.
Source says an NWSL team in LA with partners Barcelona and LAFC is likely for 2019. Adds that another MLS team nearly certain to start NWSL team in '19 and one other MLS team is 75% likely to do so. https://www.angelsonparade.com/2018...sl-expansion-california-rumors-lafc-barcelona
Mia Hamm: NWSL is a “top priority” for LAFC More hints that NWSL expansion could be arriving before long. https://www.angelsonparade.com/2019...l-top-priority-lafc-expansion-barcelona-uswnt
I was hoping they'd announce it at the USWNT game. What better time? Announce during the game, "We're joining the NWSL in 2020. You can get your season tickets on the way out for 20% off" or something.

If you’ve been looking for an #NWSL team in Los Angeles, looks like Tuesday is your day Reports circulated Monday that a Los Angeles NWSL team is on the horizon, to be announced Tuesday. American soccer legend and Los Angeles Football Club co-owner Mia Hamm tweeted out a teaser Monday: https://www.angelsonparade.com/2020...los-angeles-nwsl-team-to-be-announced-tuesday
It's too bad it won't be LAFC affiliated. I only that means it will be largely independent and therefore neutral between the two LA teams so that it doesn't turn off a whole set of supporters. I'm so excited since I remember having season tickets to the LA Sol back in the day and having so much fun at the matches.
