Uh oh, Brooks drove past a pressuring attacker to connect with his midfield and evade danger, but ended up slipping, losing the ball, and Reus scored on the ensuing counter.

He had been playing well previously. He out-hustled Reus to a long ball which would have put him in and made a stretching, reverse header pass off a corner to Kalou but it was just out of his reach.

Brooks slipped and fell. Dortmund hit Hertha on the counter because of it.

    2-0 Dortmund

Really should be 4-0 at least. Hertha keeper is playing his ass off.

I didn't see what happened here but I see CB' s driving forward with the ball as more likely to cause harm than good. They often wind up crowding the midfield and a TO is disastrous.

You see both sides of it. Many times watching Dortmund specifically this season you'll see Hummels or someone like that step into pockets and then pick out a precise pass over the top to a winger or draw the defense and layoff to a teammate with space, putting his team on the front foot. It's actually been a big spark to them in games they were previously building up slowly and without much purpose with a numbers disadvantage against a packed defense.

And sometimes against an opponent who high pressures like Dortmund, you have to at least get a step on opponents off the dribble first, otherwise play it safe out of bounds to concede possession. Just don't screw up like he did is all. Earlier when Reus was pressuring him deep against the sidelines he merely touched the ball out of bounds, which could draw flack too.

Is there a better CB in the world than Hummels? He can do whatever he wants.

His status is in no small part due to his ability to step up and deliver incisive forward passes, many of which end up as hockey assists. It changes the equation considerably, especially for possession-oriented teams.

He assisted Pulisic on the latter's goal and made it look easy. Look how far forward he was.

That was on a short corner, right? Good recognition by Kagawa, great touch on by Hummels and nice finish.
