Overall good performance and I was really impressed with Özil in the pirlo role for us. He really opened up the play and started a few dangerous counters.

Just like this match doesn't mean anything. Nice to beat Italy but things will be different in a competitive match.

Kroos is better than Gündogan. You got to be good when you are a starter at Real. But at DM, he doesnt provide any defensive tackle/conquering of the ball. That's not his way of thinking. Even Özil looks better there and that means something. When Kroos at DM then only if the other options are worse.

Nice game, but as others have said it means little.

Still, interesting to see how Hummels staying on the pitch for the whole game made a huge difference defensively.

I'd love to see Gundogan, Oezil and Khedira in midfield together.

It'd make for a very mobile and dynamic midfield, no doubt.

Can looks to be the natural heir to khedira. Mobile, technical and can run all day.

I really enjoyed the experiment with Özil in a deep playmaking role. Really suited him.

Barzagli, Chiellini, Pirlo, Verratti, and Marchisio were missing today.

I never saw Özil as a deep playmaker. Interesting that he performed well there. I'll watch for it when I get around to watching the game.

It's a friendly so the result isnt important. Italy certainly has less depth than Germany.

Friendly or not, it feels great to beat Italy to be honest :) This win is also very important for the confidence of the players.

    Poooooorvi....where have you been?

Anyway, I recommend reading Das Reboot by Raphael Honigstein. Great stuff for you to brush up on some of your German NT History, plus it has stats - I know you like those. But no pics of the different uniforms throughout the eras...

Özil as a deep playmaker? Are we really playing a 3-4-3? I am on the 20th minute and trying to figure out the formation.

I thought you weren't really a fan of any of those guys?

Is it just me, or has Buffon given up, like, 8 goals in this stadium this month?!?

I think that's more than Neuer has given up here all season.

And some people compare the two goalkeepers. HA!

    Yes, he has.

Was he at fault for any of the goals in this match ? I don't think so.
