Becks should call it quits on the city of Miami as they are not interested in hosting a MLS franchise.
their delaying tatics and failure to agree on land for a stadium should give MLS the eye opening
it needs to see that Miami is not a good choice...Florida yes..David should by the Tampa Bay Rowdies
a team and name with soccer tradition and build a SSS there in tampa...or a longer shot by the
Ft Lauderdale Stikers like Tampa a name well know wit h the football family...
Miami has a history of not supporting its baseball and football team with empty seats being the norm
so come on becks..try the real soccer hotbeds of florida...tampa and ft lauderdale..it would be quickier.

I think Becks should just forget about owning a MLS team all together.

Or if he really wants to own a team he should buy NYRB (and please re-name them Metro 96.)

The New York/New Jersey area is becoming more of a soccer mecca than south Florida anyway.

Southend...it probably would have been better for you to start this thread over in MLS expansion candidate cities section...

    http://forums.bigsoccer.com/forums/candidate-cities.1062/

and um Cup, I happen to live here and while I have loved the game for the last 40 years and seen many highs and lows, hardly would I call it a soccer mecca in any sense of the word...lmao

Miami is a brutal sports market. Even with Lebron in the final fans left a game early when it looked like they were going to lose. Only for them to come running back when the Heat made a come back. Miami already failed once in MLS. It is a city that is about nightlife, exotic cars and over priced drinks, not sports.

Beckham was in Las Vegas with Oakland Raiders owner talking about building a brand new shiny stadium for football and soccer. I wonder if he's considering that market for MLS?

Yeah, Beckham added some investor weight with the Dodgers guy, which gave me hope. Now the Miami bid has gone loudly silent again. Such a bummer.

I'd LOVE to see the Rowdies get their team in MLS with that awesome shoreline stadium.

And with the NASL's woes, the Beckham brand's pretentions and SUM getting knocked down a peg... Maybe what Beckham can still bring to the table is enough celebrity and equity to rebrand the Red Bulls as the NY Cosmos and be part owner / figurehead. It's a nice day dream.

Doesn't seem like Red Bull are super enthusiastic MLS investors anymore, maybe they'd allow the rebrand (for Beckham's share and Dodger money) if they could keep the jersey and stadium sponsorship. I think they could get more fans.

Cosmos' brand belongs in MLS and it belongs right there in Harrison, a stone's throw from the Meadowlands.

Tim Lieweike has been too quiet. Maybe he's got the profile and skills to make a Cosmos/ Beckham / Red Bull merger happen.

There was an announcement like two weeks ago that the suit against the county for the stadium land sale got tossed. This project is still chugging along.

It's a simple inverse proportion: The greater the density of trophy wives and gigolos in a city, the lesser the caring for professional sports.... Or, if you prefer, Miami is only big enough for one class of professionals...

David, it's all about the Math.

No one was saying that Indy was a bad sports town when the Pacers fans did the same thing.

Miami is not a bad sports town, we have had bad owners and poor team location. The Heat have drawn well during their entire history. In fact, the Heat outdrew the Bulls over Jordan's first three seasons.

The Dolphins have consistently drawn well. The seating capacity of the stadium was reduced, but that brought capacity in line with where capacity is there days. People just don't build 75,000 seat stadiums anymore.

The Marlins haven't earned our support.

The Panthers drew very well when they were in downtown, selling out all but two home games in their last two seasons before moving to Sunrise, over an hour away from Miami.

Which takes us to the Fusion. The Fusion were in Ft Lauderdale, not Miami. They were doomed from the start due to poor location.

Every team with good ownership and proper location in Miami has drawn well, Beckham's team looks to have that mix.

Yep. Done deal. Wonder when they will begin play? I eould think MLS would want #24 to start ASAP to get us to an even number. Be it Nashville or Miami.

So Miami fans, does Club Beckham play all the temporary games in one place, or does he spread them out to introduce his team to the whole area?
I remember a long time ago , the SF Blackhawks in the (WSL) played at venues all over the SF BAY area.
Could he play some at Dolphin Stadium (Awesome redo, nice grass field)- go low ticket prices and try to fill the place?
1 game in Ft Lauderdale for old times sake ;) . Play at Marlins Park as some what close to where his new place will be?
What other choices are there, preferably with a grass field? I assume the stadium where FC Miami plays would not be an option? And for that matter, what is the status of that team whether NASL survives or not?
I've been to both of Orlando's stadiums, but will hit Miami maybe in same year as Nashville to make a nice Southern roadtrip. I see Miami as being like the eastern version of LAFC- lots of potential star power on and off the field.
    Congrats and good luck !

Huh? They probably aren't going to actually start play until 2020 or 2021 whenever the new stadium is done. Or possibly do what Nashville is doing and play USL for a season in 2019.

It has already been stated Miami will begin MLS play in 2020 in a temporary venue.

Is there an estimate on stadium construction? I knew they had said 2020, just figured if the stadium wasn't done they may delay until 2021. Have they broken ground yet?
