We keep saying it is impossible, but the The Donald keeps proving us wrong.

We would also be without Newt.

Oh, the origin for the whole mess was indeed "inherently political", but I think you have its birthdate a touch wrong.

    Moon Base 2020!

You think the airport is awful, try driving through the city during daylight.

You misunderstand me. The people of Flint ought to be outraged and angry. The American people ought to be outraged and angry.

Michael Moore and Debbie Wasserman Schultz should not be outraged via my email, asking for billions of dollars.

Michael Moore ought to give actually living in Flint a try, for all that he yaks about it. He also should probably have a think about how his preferences (and indeed his propaganda) have contributed to getting Flint into the very situation it finds itself, while he pretty much lives as a member of the very small slice of the population he claims to abhor.

It's not just libertarians who have that problem. I have the same problem.

The difference between you and me is how we evaluate the alternative.

Ah, got you. I'll give Michael Moore a pass, since he's a Flint native, but I've never been a fan of coopting someone else's tragedy to juice up your own agenda, either.

Yeah, as much as living in Gates Mills is being a Cleveland native.

    That's pretty much Moore's shtick.

I was hoping this thread would have devolved more into an Atlanta hatefest.

    Lemme get it re-started...

The only semi-sane and non-terrible place in that airport is Concourse E (or F, really)...unless a bunch of Brits or American tourists returning from Israel have just de-planed. Then it sucks. Especially if you have a home-going connection domestically.

Brits are horrible travelers (worse than the stereotypical "Ugly American" in my experience) and the returnees from Israel just clog the shit out of immigration on the flights I often arrived on. There's loads of them, and they're...really bad at moving quickly or being thoughtful in any way in their occupation of space.

I thought you had a great story about a bunch of tourists returning from Israel who had all discovered God and were babbling about it to anyone trying to enjoy their SBarro...

If you don't, I'll give you 24 hours to make one up. Make it exciting!

I figured that was a given. Except it's in immigration, where you have no choice but to listen to families yammer excitedly about 1. their Jewish heritage, real or imagined, or 2. about how much they love Jesus now that they've seen his home. Sometimes both.

There is no excitement in listening to the same set of half-stories while you wait for the immigration officers to decide that they need to open up a couple more stations for the several hundred arriving passengers from the four Middle Eastern arrivals that just happened to show up at the same time (which happens literally daily there - I've flown in from that direction on pretty much every day of the week, and it always happens the same way - yet they stand around for a 15 minutes before they realize that, yes, these people want to enter the country now, please).

A bunch of sweaty Americans who have been on an airplane for between 10 and 16 hours - nearly all of whom are dressed like idiots (Tel Aviv sweatshirts, flip flops, running shorts three sizes too small) is not a pleasant sight or smell (though it's no worse - and is sadly better - than a bunch of other Euro and ME airports I've been in).

Sounds like Pearson International - the only real benefit is that I get to skip the line now that they have the automated kiosks for 'nucks - so my only annoyance is the usual infrequent traveller types that haven't figured out how to fill in their declaration forms, or the even-more-chair-moistening type idiots who can't feed it into the machine.

At least my 'domestic connection' is a train out of there. Do they force you to re-check your bags for domestic flights? Because that's my idea of hell right there.

Of course they do. Some places actually do a decent job of making it not terrible. One time, running on about 23 hours straight of travel, I got into O'Hare, cleared immigration and customs, then walked right the ******** out to the train to go to my connecting flight - with my checked bag. I had to take the train to the end, go back the other direction and negotiate with the ticketing agents to re-book my bags properly. Good thing I had long enough of a layover.

And don't get me started on PHL. Holy Christ, that place is a cluster********, and it feels like it was built in the '40s. And it's in Philadelphia.

I use to love the Atlanta airport. As a kid I thought the automated voice on the airports train shuttle (not MARTA) sounded like James Earl Jones as Darth Vader.

Never had the joy of flying thru Philly. Usually I end up travelling through Charlotte, Chicago or Vancouver.

Though I've seen connections in Montreal, Detroit, Denver and Pittsburgh that kinda made no sense at the time.

When the airlines figure out the best way to rid the world of connections through hubs - I will be overjoyed.

I think they actually did use James Earl Jones, what with Atlanta being home of CNN and all.

You want a totally ********ed up re-check procedure? Connect through PHL, changing airlines for your domestic leg. It will make you want to slowly kill everyone.

    Charlotte is pretty great.

Detroit is nice for where I was going in relation to where I am (NE Ohio). Way better than Chicago or Newark or Atlanta.

The airlines are eliminating hubs as they merge. There will be no end to hubs anytime soon.
